Caret: Use timingSamps leads to error
I want to use the caret package and found out about the timingSamps
obtion to obtain the time which is needed to predict results. But, as
soon as I set a value for this option, the whole model generation fails.
Check this example:
-------------------------
library(caret)
tc=trainControl(method='LGOCV', timingSamps=10)
tcWithout=trainControl(method='LGOCV')

caret: Error when using rpart and CV != LOOCV
Hy,
I got the following problem when trying to build a rpart model and using
everything but LOOCV. Originally, I wanted to used k-fold partitioning,
but every partitioning except LOOCV throws the following warning:

caret: compare linear models of different degree
I want to use the caret package to train linear models. I want to
compare these models when using different degrees (aka degrees of
interaction). This is possible for the 'earth' method (using the
'.degree' parameter) but I found no possibility of customizing the
degree for the 'lm' method. This might be due to the fact that the basic
'lm' function does not support

file names in Win Explorer
I'm having a problem getting W95 and WNT to correctly read file names on
a samba server I set up. The server passed all of the diagnostics, and
file names show up correctly in a dos window. However, under windows
explorer, anything after a . doesn't show up in the name. This is only
true for a . in the middle of the name, "hidden" files such as .fvwmrc
show up. WE does

read.table() suggestions
Hi,
I understand work is being done to improve read.table(), especially by
Prof. Brian D. Ripley. I offer below a version that I wrote, in the hope some
aspects of it may prove useful or at least inspire discussion.
Be aware that my version differs in a couple fundamental ways that reflect
my aversion to dataframes and factors. So it returns a list of vectors which
are all character,

samba + kerberos + active directory with multiple domains
I've almost got this thing working. I have it set up on a centos machine to authenticate logins and automounts to windows file servers. But it won't allow me to specify a domain as part of the userid. I can set a default domain in smb.conf and logging into that domain works like a champ. And I can list the other domains with "wbinfo --online-status" (not sure what

Extract fixed effects SE from lmer
Hi,
Does anyone know how to extract fixed effects SE values from generalized linear mixed models estimated using the lmer function in the lme4 library? I searched attributes and structure with no luck.
Thanks

Tried to load a theme, didn't work. No error message.
I searched every wine forum and wiki I could find, but there's no
information on wine theming.
I downloaded an *.msstyles file, and opened it with winecfg (Desktop
Integration->Install theme...). Nothing changed. The style I selected
didn't even get added to the list - the only option is still "(No
Theme)". There was no error message.

This is the style I tried:

Ask for histogram
Hi,
I use a vector of data to draw the histogram, but it is different from the
graph by SAS. Can you check it for me please?
b is a column vector of 4332
hist(b,probability=T,breaks=30,col='lightblue',ylim=c(0,1))
rug(b)
When I used rug, I find the records are smaller than 4332. I don't know
where I did wrong.
Thanks.

constrained OLS on coefficient
Hi,
I would like to know if anyone has any idea of how to run an OLS with
constraints? I need to contraint a coefficient estimate in the model equal to
1, and I am not sure how to include it into the OLS estimation...
I was hoping to find something like "cnsreg" in STATA..
thank you

Lavaan Package - How to Extract Residuals in Data Values
Hello R Community,
I am using the Lavaan package in R 2.15.0 to analyze data collected from
1200 lakes across North America. My dataset includes 3 continuous
independent variables (LOG_NTL, LOG_PTL, and LOG_SR_A_D) and 1 continuous
dependent variable (BIOVOL) . I have successfully constructed structural
equation models using the Lavaan package (example included below with
code), but I have not

questions regarding spline functions
Greetings,
A couple general questions regarding the use of splines to interpolate depth
profile data.
Here is an example of a set of depths, with associated attributes for a given
soil profile, along with a function for calculating midpoints from a set of
soil horizon boundaries:
#calculate midpoints:
mid <- function(x) {
for( i in 1:length(x)) {
if( i > 1) {

In rpart, how is "improve" calculated? (in the "class" case)
Hi all,
I apologies in advance if I am missing something very simple here, but since
I failed at resolving this myself, I'm sending this question to the list.
I would appreciate any help in understanding how the rpart function is
(exactly) computing the "improve" (which is given in fit$split), and how it
differs when using the split='information' vs split='gini'

Bug report: Function ppois(0:20, lambda=0.9) does not generate a non-decreasing result.
function ppois is a function calculate the CDF of Poisson distribution, it should generate a non-decreasing result, but what I got is:
> any(diff(ppois(0:19,lambda=0.9))<0)
[1] TRUE
Actually,
> ppois(19,lambda=0.9)<ppois(18,lambda=0.9)
[1] TRUE
Which could not be TRUE.
Code is tested in both R 3.5.1 and Microsoft R Open 3.5.1.
