R
To all moderators i guess, my question was probably not clear this is not a homework, i am trying to understand R by doing some exercise in my book. I will however participate a course in R in august and thought it could be good to have some knowledge before. I hoped for help from you since i have no instructor to ask, that would have been my first choice. thanks anyway Lotta

BIOENV
Dear all, Does anyone knows why the results of a BIOENV (PRIMER v. 6.1.15) are diferent of the bioenv() + mantel() in vegan? Not the spearman correlation, indeed the pseudo-p value. I know that the approach bioenv() + mantel() is biased. So, how the BIOENV (PRIMER) ends with larger p values (permutated). Acctualy how the permutation test in BIOENV (PRIMER) is conducted. The user guide does not

installing FlowingSoftware
Dear wine community I am new to wine and I installed it because I need to run the program FlowingSoftware<http://www.flowingsoftware.com/> (Flowing Software 2.5.0 ) on my mac. I installed the wine version wine-1.4.1 and I am running Mac OS X Version 10.7.5. When I try to install the program, the installation starts at first (x11 opens and I get a windows-like installation window with the

Mirror and RaidZ on only 3 disks
Hi, I have a small Linux server PC at home (Intel Core2 Q9300, 4 GB RAM), and I''m seriously considering switching to OpenSolaris (Indiana, 2008.11) in the near future, mainly because of ZFS. The idea is to run the existing CentOS 4.7 system inside a VM and let it NFS mount home directories and other filesystems from OpenSolaris. I might migrate more services from Linux over time, but for

clusters in zero-inflated negative binomial models
Dear all, I want to build a model in R based on animal collection data, that look like the following Nr Village District Site Survey Species Count 1 AX A F Dry B 0 2 AY A V Wet A 5 3 BX B F Wet B 1 4 BY B V Dry B 0 Each data point shows one collection unit in a certain Village, District, Site, and Survey for a certain Species. 'Count' is the number of animals collected in that

simple help request
Hi all, I have data that looks like number|grouping I would like to preform stats for each grouping so 1|5 6|5 10|5 11|5 3|9 5|9 10|9 Say I would like to take the median for above, I should be returned 2 lines, one for group #5 and one for group #9 Does this make sense? I am sorry for the basic question, can someone give me the name of a good book as well? Thanks, Lotta [[alternative

Population model question
Hi all, I have a population in which I want to follow living and dead animals through time ( 1 simulation, 100 years). I have created 2 arrays for living and dead animals In the starting population there are, say, 500, animals To determine whether each of these animals survives to a following age-class, a uniformal chance is generated, resulting in "TRUE" if the animal lives, or

Question on Counting Factors
Hi, I hope this is not too trivial, but I've had this recurring problem and I think there is super easy solution, just not sure what it is. Please see short example below. ?I would like to get the frequency (counts) of all the variables in a single column (that is easy), but I would also like to return the value 0 for the absence of variables defined in another column. For example: animals

gsub() with unicode and escape character
Dear helpers, I'm trying to replace a character with a unicode code inside a data frame using gsub(), but unsuccessfully. > data.frame(animals=c("dog","wolf","cat"))->my.data > gsub("o","\u0254",my.data$animals)->my.data$animals > my.data$animals [1] "d??g" "w??lf" "cat" It's not that a data

MWI for non-subscribed Realtime peers?
Hi, I have an Asterisk behind an OpenSIPS proxy. The proxy handles registrations and also SIP SUBSCRIBE for MWI. The Asterisk are configured to send NOTIFY to the proxy even when the SUBSCRIBE haven't been received. I can configure a user in sip.conf that works: [az5134939706] type=friend host=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (IP of proxy) port=5060 nat=no mailbox=1234 at customer subscribemwi=no

Subsetting without partial matches
I have a list of observations of individuals. I would like to make a list of individuals, with a data frame of observations for each individual. The following code usually works, but not always ---------------------------------------------------------------------- # Make a list of empty data frames animals = list() indivs = levels(Z$individual_id) donotprint <- sapply(indivs, function(i){

Pedigree / Identifying Immediate Family of Index Animal
I have a data frame containing the Id, Mother, Father and Sex from about 10,000 animals in our colony. I am interested in graphing simple family trees for a given subject or small number of subjects. The basic idea is: start with data frame from entire colony and list of index animals. I need to identify all immediate relatives of these index animals and plot the pedigree for them. We're

logistic model diagnostics residuals.lrm {design}, residuals()
I am interested in a model diagnostic for logistic regression which is normally distributed (much like the residuals in linear regression with are ~ N(0,variance unknown). My understanding is that most (all?) of the residuals returned by residuals.lrm {design} either don't have a well defined distribution or are distributed as Chi-Square. Have I overlooked a residual measure or would it be

Treatment-response analysis along time
Dear R people, I wonder if you could give me a hand with some of my data. I have a very typical analysis in biology, however it is difficult for me to find the right way to analyse. I had a group of animals, I gave them a treatment, and I measure a variable along time -one??s per day- along 5 days,for example(fake data): Animals Time1 Time2 Time3 Time4 1 1 5 3

fda modeling
Dear friends - We have 25 rats, 14 of these subjected to partial removal of kidney tissue, 11 to sham operation, and then followed for 6 weeks. So far we have data on 26 urine metabolites measured by NMR 7 times during the observation. I have smoothed the measurements by b.splines in fda including a roughness penalty, and inspecting the mean curves for nephrectomized and sham animals indicate

Slice and dice plugin
I''ve been playing around with some easier ways of specifying conditions in active record, and have come up with a little plugin that some may find useful. Currently active record finder and calculations methods can take a :conditions option with a string or array listing some sql conditions, eg: Animals.find :first, :conditions => "name = ''Tiger''" My

Create Variable names dynamically
Hi, I want to create variable names from within my code, but can't find any documentation for this. An example is probably the best way to illustrate. I am reading data in from a file, doing a bunch of stuff, and want to generate variables with my output. (I could make a "list of lists" and name all the elements, but I really want separate variables.) ################# #This is

How to access a column by its label?
Hi all, Is there any way to access a column of a data frame by its label (title) rather than its column index? For example, I'd like to be able to select animals[,"weight"] rather than animals[,3], if the third column of the "animals" data frame has the label "weight". Thank you!
