If statement - copying a factor variable to a new variable
I need to look through a dataset with two factor variables, and depending on certain criteria, create a new variable containing the data from one of those other variables. The problem is, R keeps making my new variable an integer and saving the data as a 1 or 2 (I believe the levels of the factor). I've tried using as.factor in the IF output statement, but that doesn't seem to work. Any

Reading multiple text files and then combining into a dataframe
I have a multiple text files, separated by a single space, that I need to combine into a single data.frame. Below is the track I'm on using list.files to capture the names of the files and then lapply with read.table. But I run into problems making a usable dataframe out of the data. #Creating example data in similar format to data I have sub <- rep(1,10) trial <- seq(1,10,1) size

Domain member, security = ADS|domain and trusts with NT4
I presently have a Samba server (3.0.21b) set up as a member server in an NT4 domain (with a real Windows NT4 PDC). We are migrating to an Active Directory domain (with a real Windows 2003 domain controller). We have set up a two-way trust between the old NT4 domain "CLUNKY" and the new ADS domain "SLEEK" (aka sleek.local). The Samba server is a member of the CLUNKY domain

data frames; matching/merging
Hi all, I'm feeling a little guilty to ask this question, since I've written a solution using a rather clunky for loop that gets the job done. But I'm convinced there must be a faster (and probably more elegant) way to accomplish what I'm looking to do (perhaps using the "merge" function?). I figured somebody out there might've already figured this out: I have

OS X client symlinks
When you say “real symlinks on OSX” do you mean an “alias” that Finder would create? Or a Unix-type symlink using the “ ln -s file link” command in Terminal? A Finder alias is not the same as a Unix-type symlink. My NAS runs Debian Linux with version 4.3.11 of smbd; my clients are all OSX Mojave. If I create an alias using Finder on the NAS, it behaves like a normal alias in OSX UNLESS I move

Spotlight issues
Hello, yes sadly update 8.9 of elasticsearch broke the samba integration. Seems like 8.10 is still broken. Stay on 8.8 until this is fixed. Ive emailed Ralph B?hme of Sernet already, but hes got no time for it atm. Im not sure about the second part of your bug report though: > There is a bug where when the samba server is running and files are being indexed while samba is running finder

Helpful Hints for OS X Users (Idiots Guide?)
Hello, I have been busy working away at getting Darwine to run on OS X with no luck... I tried uninstalling and reinstalling many times, but I was continually getting gdi32.dll errors. Be sure to read this whole thread before actually trying some of the things listed here,

issue with fruit:model not using avahi correctly?
hey folks,   I am trying to change the fruit:model value for changing the icon in the mac os finder. After digging a little bit in the source code I saw that "source3/smbd/avahi_register.c" does not contain a line where info like <service> <type>_device-info._tcp</type> <port>0</port> <txt-record>model=RackMac</txt-record> is added to avahi. Trouble finding all smb shares on network
Hi, just joined the list and know very little about smb. I'm trying to do something that should be simple, but my current solution isn't working 100% All I need is a list of smb shares on the network. I'm doing this: /usr/bin/nmblookup -M -- - and then use this on each ip returned: /usr/bin/smbclient -g -p 139 -NL <ip addr> That works for most cases but it fails to find

Strange Problem With Unwanted, Transient Caching

vfs_fruit and extended attributes
Hello list. I?m attempting to improve how Samba shares directories on our Gluster volume to Mac users by using the vfs_fruit module. This module does wonders for speeding listings and downloads of directories with large numbers of files in the Finder, but it kills uploads dead. Finder gives an error: The Finder can?t complete the operation because some data in ?[filename]? can?t be read or

After creating tank1 with zpool and a subfilesystem with zfs tank1/nfsshare, I have set the option sharenfs=on to tank1/nfsshare. With Mac OS X as client I can mount the filesystem in Finder.app with nfs://server/tank1/nfsshare, but if I copy a file an error ocours. Finder say "The
