Is cipher "3des-ctr" supported by openssh?
Hi, Is cipher "3des-ctr" supported by openssh? It is not mentioned in the list of supported ciphers in the man page of ssh_config: Thanks, Sunil Ciphers Specifies the ciphers allowed for protocol version 2 in order of preference. Multiple ciphers must be comma-separated. The supported ciphers are ''3des-cbc'', ''aes128-cbc'',

SSH Weak Ciphers
Hi, In a recent security review some systems I manage were flagged due to supporting "weak" ciphers, specifically the ones listed below. So first question is are people generally modifying the list of ciphers supported by the ssh client and sshd? On CentOS 6 currently it looks like if I remove all the ciphers they are concerned about then I am left with Ciphers

rsync without POSIX ACLs
Hi, I?m trying to rsync from an IBM SONAS, that has no POSIX ACLs. I thought that without the ?p flag, this should still work, and the destination will just inherit permissions, however, it doesn?t. My source directory on the SONAS looks like: ~$ ls -la /net/sonas/directory d--------- 2 user group 36 Oct 9 12:59 ./ d--------- 2 user group 36 Oct 9 12:59 ../ ---------- 2 user group

rsync takes long pauses in xfer ?
Hey folks, I did some googling on this but did not come up with much. I'm using rsnapshot which uses rsync, and I notice some pretty long pauses in the xfers as you can see on this graph from "munin". THe machine in question right at the moment is doing nothing but rsyncing ( rsnapshoting ) some 12T of NAS storage to local disk, so there is nothing else going on at all.

Failure to Launch (was override -q option)
Attached is the very verbose ssh output. Just to be perverse, this time two nodes lost connectivity. The only thing I see is lines saying that the two connections are lost, although being honest I have no idea what everything else means. For reference, 8 ssh cinnections were being made at the same time for a 8x8mpi task. N.B., since the OS I am using does not have rsh, I am currently using the

X11 forwarding not working.
Hi! I'm having a difficult time getting X11 forwarding to work. Since I've read the docs completely about this, this must be an SSH bug which is likely because I'm using Gentoo as the SSH server. When trying to forward X11 connections, I get X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. kwrite: cannot connect to X server XXXXXXXXX:10.0 Using command ssh -Y -p 1111 -4

Cipher preference
When testing chacha20-poly1305, I noticed that aes-gcm is significantly faster than aes-ctr or aes-cbs with umac. Even on systems w/o aes-ni or other recent instruction set additions. And there seems to be consensus in the crypto community that AEAD ciphers are the way forward. As such, it promoting the AEAD ciphers to the head of the preference list looks like a good idea. That would mean

OpenSSH 6.3p1 Smartcard-Support
Hi there, has anybody managed to get the eToken Pro Anywhere work with SSH? I'm using the latest SafeNetAuthentication drivers available for Ubuntu 64bit (8.3) and everything is working just fine except for ssh. I can use the eToken for logging in, openvpn, rdestkop, etc. but it seems ssh does not recognize the device properly. The command "ssh -I /usr/lib/libeToken.so.8 user at

rsync question
I'm trying to rsync a 8TB data folder containing squillions of small files and it's taking forever (i.e. weeks) to get anywhere. I'm assuming the slow bit is check-summing everything with a single CPU (even though it's on a 12-core server ;-( ) Is it possible to do something simple like scp the whole dir in one go so they're duplicates in the first instance, then get rsync to

SSH fail to login due to hang over after authenticated.
Can you confirm if the problem is specific to the ssh client, or the ssh server? ssh trouble checklist
Hi. There should be a checklist of everything that can go wrong with making an ssh connection. Here's one entry for the list, which I didn't know before, and * I couldn't see the problem from the -ddd and -vvv output, and * there were no /var/log/* file entries to give hints. Here's what I did sudo kill <pid-of-sshd> /usr/sbin/sshd No good. Usually I did kill

Problems using sftp on HMC IBM system
Hello friends, I am having some problems using sftp to reach a HMC IBM system. The connection is suddenly closed and I don't why. Actually I don't know exactly how to read all these debug information. I would be very glad with any help on this topic. Here is the full debug output provided from the command execution: otubo at phoenix ~ $ sftp -vvv hscroot at skiper Connecting to
