pxelinux magic options 208
I have 2 groups of machines, and within each group the pxelinux menu configuration is standard. It would be great to have 2 configuration files rather than one for each machine. I found the pxelinux magic option configfile (209) in http://syslinux.zytor.com/wiki/index.php/PXELINUX and it suggests for ISC dhcpd: site-option-space "pxelinux"; option pxelinux.magic

Network booting FreeBSD with gpxelinx almost works (fwd)
We have been network booting FreeBSD for some time with pxeboot. But now we would like to have menu of OSs to boot and got the idea somewhere that gpxelinux could do that for us. We copied gpxelinux.0 from the syslinux-4.02 distribution and replaced pxeboot with "gpxelinux" in the dhcpd.conf file. Indeed with a configuration file in pxelinux.cfg like this: default freebsd

--include-from doesn't include
I'm trying to backup certain pieces of my XP workstations home directory to a mapped drive using rsync on Cygwin. I was able to create a fairly useful exclude-from list, but I'm unable to re-include portions a subset of an excluded directory. My rsync command looks like this: rsync -avn --delete --stats ~/ \ /cygdrive/i/HRMS/rdavies/backup/home \

Invalid argument with version 3.1.3
We reently upgraded our rsync client from Freebsd 10.2 to 11.2 which upgraded our rsync from 3.0.6 protocol version 30 to 3.1.3 protocol version 31. The server remains Freebsd 11.1 with rsync 3.1.2 protocol version 31. Now we get numerous messages like this: rsync: readlink_stat("/disk/homedirs/nber/bstevens/public_html/old/test/press reaction/Foreign

Accessing Windows file-system from Linux samba server
I don't understand Windows permissions under Samba. I am running an smb server under CentOS-5.4, and have a Windows XP Pro machine ("harriet") as a client. I have set up shares C and D on harriet corresponding to the 2 drives C: and D: on the machine, and I have asked that files should be shared. Now when I mount harriet:C I can see the top level folders, but cannot see Documents

MSWord97 installs properly but still won't launch (or save?) -- 3 more data files
Dear friends: Forgot to include three more data files: http://www.websher.net/tmp/user.reg http://www.websher.net/tmp/system.reg http://www.websher.net/tmp/userdef.reg Thank you again. Benjamin I've been trying for some time to install my copy of Word97 (which I own, having purchased it directly from Microsoft with my own license number). I have tried the latest Wine 0.9.14. To do

Roaming profiles brings error with prf*.tmp files
We have an Apple OSX 10.3.4 Opendirectory (LDAP) Server with an SAMBA (3.0.2) PDC Server with roaming profiles for Windows XP (SP1 Prof) Clients on the Server. The Share for the PCs is only shared with SMB. When a PC log off, the profile will be copied to the server and brings the error message that the files prf*.tmp can?t be copied to the server. This error message occours not every time and

Network Path could not be found on HP with XP
We have one brand new HP EPC-43 which can see all the Windows boxes, but not the Samba shares on the Unix server. We have many other Windows machines of all vintages including 95, 98, 98se, NT, 2000, ME and XP which can see each other and the Samba server. The HP runs XP, but we have other XP boxes which have no difficulty with Samba. We have a simple network with no domain controller, just

Excluding redirected directories causes file deletion on logout...
Hi, Samba: samba-3.0.21 OS: OpenBSD I built a new WinXP (sp2 and fully updated) box with the the idea of making a Default User profile. I followed the directions in the "Making Happy Users" section of the Samba-3 By Example guide. http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold Folder redirection is working, using the %LOGONSERVER%\profiles\%USERNAME%\

Hi David, Configured as you mention, and prior with the other tweaks I had in the first place, Im getting the same results, which is "FSUTIL utility requires a Local NTFS Volume", and mapping it. I then went to contig, `contig -n X:\share\sparesefile 0`, as well as a few other size. Maybe im using it wrong, but some testing on contig has only "Access is denied" when I try

Samba roaming profile with folder redirection
Hi, I have a domain controller which was configured to use the local profiles. We have a relatively small group whose work required it. Now we are moving toward using the domain for all machine with roaming profile. There are a lot of posts dealing with the roaming profiles and the folder redirection. But I've met some issues. My configuration: NS3 and SMB are hostnames of our servers.

samba 3.0.23a + ldap as PDC - should work, but why?
I've got an issue with roaming profiles with samba 3.0.23a and an LDAP backend. I can use the ldap to authenticate an NT and a local user, and I know alot about PAM, NSS, and general linux. BUT, I can't get ANY roaming profiles to work. Other than my domain name changed for security purposes, the following is my smb.conf file. (I first used SWAT, then did more customization)

can't browse shares on second samba server
We have two FreeBSD 8.0 Samba (3.3.9) servers running with identical smb.conf files, except for the workgroup and netbios parameters. Both serve files flawlessly, but only the first is normally visible to browsing by XP and Win7 clients. Interestingly, if we reboot the first server, then the invisible (second) server becomes visible for several minutes, but then disappears again and is no

For some reason It's not erroring now, I will look into it more, but I suspect it鈥檚 the settings, the last thing mentioned David > [globa]l section is fine, as long as it's not also set in the share section. So, yeah, that may have fixed im for the time being not getting the sparse errors, for the first time in 4 months, however, there is a couple other problems, so hopefully they

"My Documents" and other symlinks to home are not listed
Hi. My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, and My Videos aren't visible (but accessible) from C:\users\%USER% . "Desktop", however, is visible. This breaks precompiled samples from directx SDK 2004. I extracted them to My Documents/Downloads, and they can't find their resources. This also affects cmd.exe, explorer, total commander. Anyone else experience this? Code: [il at mar2

New win32-dir
Hi all, In lieu of Timothy''s pure Ruby junction code, and Zach''s VC++ 6 issues, I decided to just rewrite the dang thing in pure Ruby using Win32API. That will solve''s Zach''s problem and make it easier to add Timothy''s code, which I plan to add (slightly modified) to the 0.2.0 release. The code is below. One thing I have a question about is how to

Some Vista Info reguarding Profiles
Hi All, I just started really looking into deploying Vista in a Domain Environment and here is some info I gathered so far: With Vista, Microsoft Updated their "profiles" to version 2, thus Vista profiles will not co-exist with previous Windows profiles. To alleviate the need to specify a different profile for Vista, Microsoft decided to automatically add a ".V2" to the

Hi to all, I have a samba server that was working with security share in one subnet and now is listening on another interface, configured as a PDC logon server with wins support and w98 clients, I followed the howto: http://www.linuxfocus.org/English/March2002/article177.shtml The clients added to the domain execute the logon scripts fine, but they do not see the samba server in nethood, though
