Building R from source
Hello,
I was trying to build R from source on Windows XP. I installed software which are mentioned from the follow web page http://www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/ (Last accessed on Nov. 13th, 2006) . Unfortunately, I got error messages whenever I run 'make all recommended' without modifying 'MkRules' file. I have removed software and reinstalled them several times but I still

Problem with dyn.load...or else...
Hi everybody,
I'm working on Mac OS X and R-2.1.0 (by the way, sorry for the multiple
emails last time, had a technical problem, and thanks for the constructive
comments.)
I have a .R function which calls a .C function. The R function's name is
K_MEANSR.R and the other is K_MEANSC.C.
I compile it with 'R CMD SHLIB K_MEANSC.C' in the terminal. I get both .so
and .o files.

make -f Makefile.docfiles
make[3]: Nothing to be done for `docfiles'.

Error in formatDL(nm, txt, indent = max(nchar(nm, "w")) + 3)
Hello:
I tried "debug(help)" with the problem mentioned below. It
stopped with a call to "library", from which I generate the following
simple replication of this error:
> library(help = 'fda', character.only = TRUE)
Error in formatDL(nm, txt, indent = max(nchar(nm, "w")) + 3) :

Error in formatDL(nm, txt, indent = max(nchar(nm, "w")) + 3)
It happens in the fda package because some of the headers are longer
than typical (e.g., "Repository/R-Forge/DateTimeStamp") and formatDL
dies if the indent argument is too large compared to the width argument.
It might be nice to change formatDL so it never gave such an error, but
did something reasonable when the 'indent' argument was too big.

Error in formatDL(nm, txt, indent = max(nchar(nm, "w")) + 3)
This error can arise when getOption("width") is too small. 80 seems to be the
limit for me with R-3.3.2 on Windows.

[PATCH] do not use -R on ppc to link shared objects
The *.shared targets require -shared on powerpc, and -R leads to linker
errors.
This patch makes the -R an arch define. ia64 at least requires -R.

R-devel cross-building
I was cross-building R-devel (1.7.0). The tail of the error message
from running make on a machine with makeinfo (GNU texinfo 3.12) 1.68
is at the end of this email. The same procedure went fine on a machine
with makeinfo (GNU texinfo) 4.1.
My first guess is that the version of makeinfo is causing this. However,
this didn't happen with R-1.6.2beta. Please advise.

Alright, I have setup the new rules and am waiting to see if I have any

build problems with 6.04-pre1
hello everybody,
apologies if I'm missing something here
Just tried to build 6.04-pre1 test version with:
make bios installer
and found some problems all (seemingly) related to inaccurate paths in
various Makefiles.
I enclose a complete patch at the end of this email, which details the
problems I found and how they got fixed for me.
As an example, this is the first error I got:

R+Stata batch mode
Dear R help,
I am using Stata, and I use a Stata ado file (Rsource) to run R in batch
mode within Stata
Everything works fine .... except for the fact that I cannot export the
graphics that I obtain with my computations written in my R source file
I believe this is related to the global Rterm_options `"--vanilla"' that I
need to precise to Rsource (otherwise it does not work) ...

Compiling extlinux statically
Hi,
I'm trying to build extlinux statically, but no matter what CFLAGS or
OPTFLAGS I set in the Makefiles I get bios/extlinux/extlinux: ELF 64-bit

I have tried adding OPTFLAGS= -static to the extlinux/Makefile as well as
