Backup domU
Hi all, I''m doing my first xen, running with 3 domU perfect. I need to know which way to backup domU to restore these to another server if i''ve problem with this machine. There are 3 LVM with 10G in VolGroup01 for each domU, with each of these partitions: /dev/xvda3            8,7G  1,4G  6,9G  17%

CentOS and LessFS
Hi All: We have been looking at implementing deduplication on a backup server. >From what I have been able to find the available documentation is pretty thin. I ended up trying to install LessFS on this CentOS 5.7 box but we have now encountered problems with fuse version. Has anyone out there been able to get LessFS running on CentOS 5.7 and can provide some pointers? If not LessFS can you

GlusterFS over lessfs/opendedupe
Hi, I'm currently running GlusterFS over XFS, and it works quite well. I'm wondering if it's possible to add data deduplication into the mix by: glusterfs --> lessfs --> xfs or glusterfs --> opendedupe --> xfs Has anybody tried doing this? We're running VM images on gluster, and I figure we could get a bit of space saving bu deduplicating the data. Gerald

Use rsync's checksums to deduplicate across backups
I apologize if this has already been discussed before, but as of yet I have been unable to find any info on the topic. I have a very simple (and common) disk based backup system using rsync, hard links, and a little bit of perl to glue it together. Remote machines are backed up regularly using hardlinks across each snapshot to reduce disk usage. Recently I learned that rsync does a

Dedup (again)
Hi all, Back in March someone asked about deduplication in Centos and I replied I'm using LessFS. I want to report that my overall experience is that I have performance issue up to the point that I would like to abandon it. The OP was asking http://www.opendedup.org/ How is it? Thanks Fajar

Offline Deduplication for Btrfs
Here are patches to do offline deduplication for Btrfs. It works well for the cases it''s expected to, I''m looking for feedback on the ioctl interface and such, I''m well aware there are missing features for the userspace app (like being able to set a different blocksize). If this interface is acceptable I will flesh out the userspace app a little more, but I believe the

Deduplication active - but how good does it perform?
I have deduplication active in my first mdbox: type mailbox, but how do I find out how well the deduplication works? ZFS Deduplication
Hi: I am very interested in the ZFS deduplication, where can I get the the source code? Or would anybody send me an actual source code achive which contains the ZFS deduplication? I am looking forward your kind help. Thanks very much. Deduplication
Hello, some questions regarding btrfs deduplication. - What is the state of it? Is it "safe" to use? https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Deduplication does not yield much information. - https://pypi.python.org/pypi/bedup says: "bedup looks for new and changed files, making sure that multiple copies of identical files share space on disk. It integrates deeply with btrfs so

?But could not we for example do split dwarf, but for example do dedup of types ? I do not mean right now, but in a theory ? Zfs deduplication
Will the material ever be posted. Looks there is some huge bugs with zfs deduplication that the organizers do not want to post it also there is no indication on sun website if there will be a deduplication feature. I think its best they concentrate on improving zfs performance and speed with compression enabled. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

data deduplication
I know rsync can do many things but I was wondering if anyone is using it for data deduplication on a large filesystem. I have a filesystem which is about 2TB and I want to make sure I don't have the same data in a different place of a filesystem. Is there an algorithm for that? TIA

sis deduplication broken from 2.2.16 upwards
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, sis attachment deduplication is broken in 2.2.16 upwards. It is caused by this commit. https://github.com/dovecot/core/commit/664bf3e236c214aee86294483c379e4fa66c2e63 in src/lib-fs/fs-sis.c function fs_sis_try_link() is comparation of inodes of hash files. Mail deduplication
Hi Guys, I am wondering about mail deduplication. I am looking into the possibility of seperating out all of the message bodies with multiple parts inside mail that is recived from `dovecot` and hashing them all. The idea is that by hashing all of the parts inside the email, I will be able to ensure that each part of the email will only be saved once. This means that attachments & common

[RFC] - Deduplication of debug information in linkers (LLD).
>Not quite sure what you mean by "on linker side" - but I guess you mean using linker features like comdats etc, rather than DWARF parsing/reassembly/etc. I mean that it probably not a good idea for external library. I feel it is much more convinent to do such proccessing in a linker. Linker do and knows much more about things like sections that are ICFed, eliminated, about COMDATs

SSH Compression - Block Deduplication
Hello, I did a search against the list archive and didn't see any comments on the topic of using deduplication as a compression algorithm. This is just a suggestion for the developers to think about. Block de-duplication is found in higher end WAN gear. The idea is to mantain an indexed dictionary of data blocks. If a matching block is found prior to transmission, a token (hash id)

ntfs-3g data deduplication support in guestmount for creating file based back-ups on visualization platform
Hello everybody, I am using libguestfs-tools version 1.28.1 in a bunch of bash scripts to make back-ups of the files on a visualisation platform. I been trying to get read access to ntfs volumes with data deduplication working. The ntfs-3g guys developed some support and I have this working when using the commands our back-up servers. However when using the guestmount tool the read suport

Non-destructive deduplication
Greetings. I use Dovecot 2.2.29.1 as my IMAP server. Owing to a bug in my mail client [1], several unique messages (mostly in my Sent folder) have duplicate Message-ID headers. Dovecot itself doesn't seem to be bothered by this, though my mail client is confused by the false duplicates. (It screws up the threading display, and results in data loss when I run the client's deduplication
