RMySQL load error
I'm having trouble getting RMySQL to load. I was able to build it and install
it (RMySQL_0.5-11.tar.gz). I was also able to build and install mysql-5.0.37.
I've read many postings about this but have not found a mention of my
particular problem (some closely related). I get the "unable to load shared
library, no such file" error, but all the files do exist, RMySQL.so and

RMySQL installed but not availalable
I don't use MySQL but I have seen messages like this before. They often have replies which indicate that you need to follow the instructions more closely. I suggest you search the list for these previous posts as I'm sure there is help there, somewhere!

S4 coercion
I am extending a DBI connection by
setClass("TSPostgreSQLConnection",
contains=c("PostgreSQLConnection","TSdbOptions"))
but the first time I use this I am getting a warning when it tries to
coerce the TSPostgreSQLConnection to a PostgreSQLConnection. After the
first use the warning stops, but the first warning is causing me
problems when I do automatic checks

(I am not sure if this is a bug or a request for a more understandable
warning, or possible something obvious I should be posting on r-help.)
I am trying to coerce an new class object to be a DBIConnection and it
does not work the way I think it should:

No warning for conflicting methods?
It would be really nice if R warned you when packages had conflicting
methods. For example (and this took me a couple of hours to track
down), RMySQL and RPostgreSQL both define setMethod("print",
"dbObjectId"), so that:
library(RMySQL)
getMethod("print", "dbObjectId")
library(RPostgreSQL)
getMethod("print", "dbObjectId")

Installing and Loading RMySQL on OS X 2.8
Hello,
I have trouble installing and loading the RMySQL package on OS X 2.8.
The package seems to install from source fine (using R package manager
from within the R environment). I have the following error when I try
to load the package:
loading package: RMySQL
Error in dyn.load(x, as.logical(local), as.logical(now)) :

loading both RPostgreSQL and RSQLite leads to problems
hello,
if i load the RSQLite package in addition to the RPostgreSQL package,
i get various errors when trying to use RPostgreSQL functions. here is
an example transcript showing one such error:

Methods not loaded in R-Devel vs 2.8.1
Dear list-member,
I am currently developing a package with S4 classes. The NAMESPACE and DESCRIPTION is printed below. Within this package I have set a method "residuals" for two classes. In version 2.8.1 these two are reported whereas in R-Devel (2009-01-28 r47766). What have I missed? What has changed and how can I rectify the issue? Your help and pointers are welcome.
For 2.8.1:

S4 method defined but not used
Dear R developers,
I am having a slightly weird issue with a S4 method defined in my package adegenet 1.2-4, with R 2.11.0. As far as I know, the problem is new, and the code implementing the method has not changed for more than a year and worked well so far.
The problem is the following. I define, in the package, a method "[" for the S4 class 'genind'. The method's

getMethods() not finding all methods
Running R2.4.0 on Apple Mac OS X 10.4.8,
in Emacs ESS mode, and also R.app.
In an attempt to learn a bit more about
a particular method (geneNames in package affy)
I invoked
getMethods("geneNames")
which produced geneNames methods, but not the
one in affy (output below).
I had to know the signature (AffyBatch) in order
to find the method

I see as below, where getGeneric and getMethod imply a different signature; the signature is mode="any" for both cases in R version 3.2.3 Patched (2016-01-28 r70038)I don't know how to reproduce Jeff's error, though.

Generic Functions
Hi,
I've been using the package "graph" in the BioConductor assortment and
writing some functions based on its classes. My question is not specific to
this package or BioConductor (I think), but it serves as a useful example.
I recently wanted to look at the code for the function "edgeMatrix" for the
class "graphNEL".
Usually I would type

Insert a recorde into a table using SQL

I want to insert a recorde into a SQLite table by dbGetQuery(), but
there is a problem when the value contains quotation mark.

Database queries using the combination DBI + ROracle are handicapped by
quirks in the pipeline between the textual representation of the query
and the database engine Oracle. Comments and linefeed at start are
interfering:

Lahman Baseball Data Using R DBI Package
Hi Philip,
You've probably realized by now that R doesn't like column names that
start with a number. If you try to access an R-dataframe column named
2B or 3B with the familiar "$" notation, you'll get an error:

> library(RSQLite)
> con2 <- dbConnect(SQLite(), "~/R_Dir/lahmansbaseballdb.sqlite")

Data type problem when extract data from SQLite to R by using RSQLite
Hi there,
When I extract data from SQLite to R, the data types (or modes) of the
extracted data seems to be determined by the value of the first row.
Please see the following example.
When I put the missing values first, the column extracted is of the
mode character.

Lahman Baseball Data Using R DBI Package
This is really a feature of SQL, not R. SQL requires that you double quote
column names that start with numbers, include spaces, etc., or that are SQL
key words. E.g.,

Where=c("here","there","there"), From=c("me","me","you"))

Creating a data table (frame?) from a SQL Statement?
Hello,
I'm new to R so this is probably a simple question for somebody.
I have an RScript that reads a CSV on the disk using read.table(...). It then does a boxM test using that data.
However, I'm now trying to load the same data via an SQL command, but I can't seem to get the data structure defined so R will like it -- using the included "iris" dataset.
I've tried
