rsync build on IA64 using icc
I got numerous warnings when building rsync on IA64 (Itanium-2) using
Intel C/C++ compiler (see attached). Is this expected? Thanks, Michael

Never exporting .__global__ and .__suppressForeign__?
Hello,
(Dear Richard, I hope you don't mind being Cc:'d on this thread in
R-devel. This is one of the ways we can prevent similar problems from
happening in the future.)
Sometimes, package authors who use both exportPattern('.') and
utils::globalVariables(...) get confusing WARNINGs about undocumented
exports:

R CMD check, NOTEs, & S4-dependent packages
As I was running "R CMD check" on one of my older packages
(matlab), I was attempting to fix one of the NOTEs which
bitches about attempting to change the search path using
require().
In my case, I am repeating a package dependency for "methods"
package in my .onLoad() function. Can this scenario (based
on something B. Ripley discussed many years ago) no longer
occur? Just

R checks links broken
I was about to show the Rcpp build check results to a user when I noticed
that the relevant URL
http://cran.r-project.org/web/checks/check_results_Rcpp.html
currently yields a 404 error.
Spot checking for other package yields the same. Looking at
http://cran.r-project.org/web/
shows that no checks/ diretory can be found. Did an NFS mount go down?
Cheers, Dirk

Double-quoted query with "and" fails.
Hi,
We''re using Ferret 0.9.4 and we''ve observed the following behavior.
Searching for ''fieldname: foo and bar'' works fine while ''fieldname:
"foo and bar"'' doesn''t return any results. Is there a way to make
ferret recognize the ''and'' inside the query as a search term and not
an operator? (I hope I got the

TermGenerator and SimpleStopper
Hi,
I'm using SimpleStopper with TermGenerator in a Python indexing
script, in an attempt to keep my index size down (currently 30K per
doc, and I have 200 million docs to index, which I think implies
6TB.) However, unprefixed (positional?) terms are not affected by
the stopper, though Z-prefixed terms are.
I assume this is intentional for phrase queries, but I need to reduce

[LLVMdev] [llvm-commits] [PATCH][RFC] Add extra arguments to TargetLowering::LowerCall() so targets have more context in which to construct call chains
In response to this discussion, I've prepared the attached patch as an initial prototype for the LowerCall/LowerCallTo change. All of the information currently needed by the back-ends, and the extra information needed by the NVPTX back-end, is now wrapped in a CallLoweringInfo struct. The various SelectionDAG classes have been modified so any calls to TargetLowering::LowerCallTo use this

problems with iconv
I'm at wit's ends here and need some help.
I've downloaded and compiled iconv versions 1.13 and 1.14 -
libiconv.so.2.5.0 and libiconv.so.2.5.1 and copied the iconv all over,
replacing the native iconv on my Solaris machine.
Still when I try to run the configure I get:

Question on Stopword Removal from a Cyrillic (Bulgarian)Text
Hi,
I bumped into a serious issue while trying to analyse some texts in
Bulgarian language (with the tm package). I import a tab-separated csv
file, which holds a total of 22 variables, most of which are text cells
(not factors), using the read.delim function:
data<-read.delim("bigcompanies_ascii.csv",
header=TRUE,

[LLVMdev] [llvm-commits] [PATCH][RFC] Add extra arguments to TargetLowering::LowerCall() so targets have more context in which to construct call chains
Thanks. This is going in the right direction IMHO. Obviously, please make sure you add comments to the data structure and convert all the targets first. Also, please don't forget to send an email to llvmdev to warn owners of all the out-of-tree targets about the ABI change.

Web Streaming project for GSoC
Hello,
In the following months, I am participating in the Google Summer of Code
(GSoC). My project evolves around improving web streaming for open media
formats and is mentored by Conrad Parker. The goal of the project is to
write a FastCGI module that accepts ranged requests for smaller segments of
media resources, using the liboggz library to perform the actual Ogg
crunching.
There are a lot of

I tried to build R-2.14.0 on cygwin using the commands:

Compilation error of R-2.14.0 on Mac OS 10.7.2
Dear R gurus,
I attempt to install the latest version of R from source on my MacBook Pro, using latest versions of Xcode and gfortran for Lion and configure options:
./configure --with-libintl-prefix=/sw --enable-R-shlib (this last option necessary to further install the Rpy Python package)
I got the following unreduced compilation error:
gcc -std=gnu99 -dynamiclib
