Problem with openvpn and tun interface
I'm scratching my head here a little. And my post to the openvpn mailing list is not getting any attention. I have an openvpn server working with Windows clients and I thought I'd try to get a client config on a CentOS box running. The client is a minimal install of CentOS and I like to use shorewall (3.2.x). I've tried to run the vpn client with the fw off and on with no change.

bonding tap devices
Hello list, Please don''t shoot me. I know I''m doing something with bonding that bonding wasn''t made for. I just want to give it a try. I want a simple mechanism to have a failover on a 24Mbit line to a 2Mbit line in case the 24Mbit line goes down. Between A and B there are two lines: a 24Mbit and a 2Mbit. I use two OpenVPN tunnels with tap devices: +-- tap0 (A)---

Xen and OpenVPN
Hi, I have some problems with my OpenVPN server in a Xen DomU. OpenVPN works fantastic but theres a problem connecting other DomUs on this server. I have the following iptable rule to forward the requests to the internet. iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 10.8.0.0/24 -j MASQUERADE This works fine. I can connect to other DomUs on the same server but they can''t answer the

Tinc on Linux and tap device problem
Hello, I successfully set up a tunnel with tinc using the tun interface. however I need a tap device, because I need to run the OLSR routing protocol on the tunnel and if I use the tun mode OLSR will just skip the interface. (It is a well known thing, I had this issue before also when using OpenVPN in the past). The problem is that I cannot make tinc use a tap device. I created the tap0

Openvpn and samba: play nice together?
Hi, this reminds me of my troubles of setting up samba BDC at remote company branch. Connection was done by IPSEC tunnel between 2 mikrotik routers. Thing was, ipsec supports only unicast, but not multicast, nor broadcast. Solved it by adding L2TP tunnel that support the above mentioned mechanisms. So ended up with the l2tp (which has very weak encryption and is very old and vulnerable)

OpenVPN + SIP configuration?
Hello I read a whole book on OpenVPN, but still can't figure how to configure the server + client so that the the client connects and sends SIP/RTP data through the tunnel. To get started, I'd rather use a shared key instead of X509 (certificates + keys). The server is running on a uClinux appliance, with /dev/net/tun, and OpenVPN is 2.0.9. The clients will be Windows hosts connecting

OpenVPN (bridge) -- is this a shorewall issue?
I am trying to make the following connection: WindowsXP(OpenVPN-Client)->shorewall->Internet->LinksysWRTG->OpenVPN-Server ...of course the reverse path too. The OpenVPN server is running in bridge mode. When the openVPN client is launched it looks like a successful connection is made. The openVPN client gets assigned an address from the openVPN server pool. The OpenVPN

Openvpn, bridge and shorewall
Hi, I have a Linux firewall based on shorewall with 2 NIC and ADSL (ppp0). My ppp0 ip is fixed. The internal NIC, eth1, is bridged with tap0, tap1 and tap2 to form br0. br0 subnet is 192.168.2.0/24. The firewall is configured to masq internal traffic and block whatever needs to be blocked. It is also configured to tunnel openvpn v1.6. I have a roaming laptop running XP. I can create a tunnel

Shorewall and OpenVPN woes
Ok. I''m knocking down one problem at a time. I''ve managed to figure out how to bridge my tap0 and my eth1 with br0. This is good stuff. But if I have shorewall running, I can''t ping the local network at all. If I have shorewall not running, I can ping the local network. Here is my setup. Firewall/NAT box: eth0 - DHCP from cable provider eth1 -

KVM-Docker-Networking using TAP and MACVLAN
Hi everyone! I have the following requirement: I need to connect a set of Docker containers to a KVM. The containers shall be isolated in a way that they cannot communicate to each other without going through the KVM, which will act as router/firewall. For this, I thought about the following simple setup (as opposed to a more complex one involving a bridge with vlan_filtering and a seperate VLAN

Openvpn and samba: play nice together?
Friends-- I'm stumped! Cannot get mount.cifs to work over a tun connection. How would you trouble-shoot this? 1. It cannot be openvpn causing the problem: I can ping across the connection both directions on all machines. 2. It cannot be samba causing the problem: I can mount.cifs the smb shares on the lan (using the identical credentials file) without any issue. 3. Have iptables

Howto set the option script=no for a tap device in the xml file
Hello, I am trying to run a virtual machine with qemu-kvm and libvirt as a user. In order to start the virtual machine I setup a tap device manually, add it to the bridge and activate it via ifconfig. But I cannot tell libvirt to not try to add the definded tap device to the bridge by itself. It always fails telling me it cannot add tap0 to br0. Thats the xml snippet for defining the network:
