setting up a "server"
Hi,
I have the install guide and the admin guide....nothing in either that I can see from the contents pages tells me how to create the first "server" ( I assume that is what I have to do?)
Is there another doc Im missing? or a good URL for a howto on a redhat based machine?
Also from what I can see the "free" version is cli only?
and there is no virtual (vmware) appliance?

RNGkind() state (PR#12567)
I sent this to R-devel early last month, but have received no response, so I guess it
really is a bug.
This looks like a bug to me, and is a bit hard to describe, but easy to reproduce. ?
Basically, if RNGkind is saved as something other than the default, and if the first
operation in a session is a set.seed(), the default is reverted to. ?Reproduce by:

GPU packages and 'Debian R Policy'
Hi there,
Moving this request for info over from an R-HPC-SIG list thread as
the issue is less HPC than something that has bitten me as a result
of trying to install HPC (read CUDA) R packages.
Background to this is that I have both a Ubuntu host for a Tesla card
that some researchers are looking to do CUDA-related R computation on,
and a prototype, RHEL-based, cluster that is being used to

Installation globbers ssh_prng_cmds
Gidday,
I've just tried installing openssh-2.2.0p1 and found that it globbers my
ssh_prng_cmds file which has been customised from the normally installed
one. On BSDi 4.0.1 it doesn't detect enough commands for ssh-keygen to be
happy. Most of the commands do actually exist, but I have to specify where
they are.
Could someone please modify the installation scripts to either

The aphid package for analysis with profile hidden Markov models
Hi folks,
I'm pleased to introduce a new package called ?aphid?, for analysis with
profile hidden Markov models in R.
The package contains functions for multiple and pairwise sequence alignment
for both nucleic acids and proteins (preferably in the DNAbin or AAbin
format), model building, parameter optimization (Baum Welch and Viterbi
training), plotting, file import & export,

Windows 98® and Linux/Samba
Hello,
I should explain that although I'm a home user I have
worked in tech support for an Internet Service Provider here in
England.
Over the past few weeks I have had an e-mail discussion over the
internet with various groups of people who are to do with Linux and
Samba. One of the more confusing issues is that "does win 98 need a

Multiple interfaces
I have tried to set up Samba on my Solaris 2.5.1 with 2 interfaces (le0,
le0:1 - one network card with two IP addresses). But all I could see is
throught the default ports 137 and 139.
In my /etc/inetd.conf, I have:

-s/opt/samba/lib/kes.smb.conf
netbios-ssn stream tcp nowait root /opt/samba/bin/smbd smbd

Is there a way to add a legend to an image plot? I don't see any
reference to legends in the documentation (so I suppose the answer is
no?). Although the documentation says image takes plot() parameters, it
isn't clear to me how the usual use of legend in a plot command

Thanks very much for advice. I was not aware of the Fields package
(although I've been using Geostat and Spatial). The image.plot()
function in Fields does a lovely job, with an added bonus of fixing the
problem I was having of balancing the number of colour levels with the

Way for a VM to reboot from a snapshot?
Using the koan command, a VM can essentially request
that it be reprovisioned.
Is there any way for a VM to request that it reboot from
a snapshot taken with virsh?
Thanks..

Disconnected gluster node things it is still connected...
Hi all,
Trying to do some availability testing.
We have three nodes: node1, node2, node3. Volumes are all replica 2, across
all three nodes.
As a test we disconnected node1, buy removing the vlan tag for that host on
the switch it is connected to. As a result node2 and node3 now show node1
in disconnected status, and show the volumes as degraded.
This is ecpected.
However logging in to node1

Display an image defined on a polar grid [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
Dear R-help,
I have a matrix of data values specified in polar coordinates, i.e. (r,theta).
I know that I can transform this image to Cartesian coordinates and then use image to display the results, however, I want to display the image as is, without any coordinate transformations. This would require displaying individual "pieces of pie" colour-coded by their data value.

Local assistance in Wellington/NZ ?
Anyone out there in NZ, perhaps in Wellington?
I''ve been doing procedural perl/PHP for so long that I''d appreciate some
assistance with grokking Ruby :-) and the Rails framework.
If you''re local to Wellington I''d be more than happy to pin you down
over a liquid refreshment of some sort, as it were ... :-)
I''ve just sort-of promised a friend to build

Greetings,
I am using R version 2.11.1 on a Dell computer, via a VMware connection to a remote server. My browser version is IE 8.0.6001.18702 and the OS is some corporate version of Microsoft XP.
I'm trying to learn more about the tapply function , so I typed ?tapply into the command line. This opened up a browser window with url http://127.0.0.1:28138/library/base/html/tapply.html which is

Dovecot and Active Directory separate domain data stores.
Hi,
I've got Dovecot setup to auth my AD users fine via Winbind and I've also
tried it using LDAP and can get this working also.
The problem lies in the way we store our email for our virtual users in
this setup.
We run a flat domain for AD (lets call it newzealand.local), and then
under each users account that gets email, in the E-mail field in AD, they
have an email address like user1
