fsck ldiskfs-backed OSTs?
There are references to running fsck on the lustre OSTs after a crash
or power failure. However, after downloading the ClusterFS
e2fsprogs and building them, e2fsck does not recognize our ldiskfs-
based OSTs. Is there a way to fsck the ldiskfs-based OSTs?
Thanks,

LDISKFS-fs warnings on MDS lustre 1.6.4.2
Hi Folks,
We can see these massages on our MDS

Balancing I/O Load
We are seeing some disturbing (probably due to our ignorance)
behavior from lustre 1.6.3 right now. We have 8 OSSs with 3 OSTs
per OSS (24 physical LUNs). We just created a brand new lustre file
system across this configuration using the default mkfs.lustre
formatting options. We have this file system mounted across 400
clients.
At the moment, we have 63 IOzone threads running

Why does lmList() fail when lm() doesn't?
Dear r-helpers,
Can anyone suggest why lm() doesn't complain here:
summary(osss.lm1 <- lm(logOdds ~ c.setSize %in% task, data = osss))
whereas in package:nlme (and in package:lme4)
osss.lmL <- lmList(logOdds ~ c.setSize %in% task | subj, data = osss)

How to track down a latency/timing problem
Hello Lustre Experts
I am trying to solve a problem with very slow "ls" and other big amount
of file operations but good overall read/write rates.
We are running a small cluster of 3 OSSs with 9 OSTs, 1MDS (with SSD
MDT) and currently two clients. All server nodes are centos 5.2 with
lustre 1.8.1 while the clients are centos 5.4 with lustre 1.8.3. All
components are networked with DDR

lustre-1.8 OSD
lustre-1.8 has OSD structures in place, what do I need to add in to make it
work with OSD T10 standard? could anybody point me to some docs mentioning
lustre internals - OSTs, OSSs, OBDs, and control flow when a read/write call
is invoked by a client. thanks.

Version mismatch of Lustre client and server
Hello,
I am planning on deploying a few more clients in my lustre environment and
was wondering which client version to install. I know it is okay to run a
newer client version than your lustre server for upgrade purposes. However,
would it be okay to be in this state for a longer period of time (for the
life of this filesystem)? My lustre server is currently running 1.8.1.1 on
RHEL 5.3 and I

build and install lustre from source code -- warning on livcfs.ko for no modversions
I built and installed Lustre from source. When I installed built luster-modules- RPM, I got libcfs.ko from the kernel-2.6.18-prep has no modversions (the message is posted below), so it cannot be reused for kernel. Is there any procedure I need to do during the build? There is include/config/modversion.h under patched kernel, but the file does not have any contens and its size is 0.
Thanks for

OSTs inactive on one client (only)
Hi everyone,
I have seen this question here before, but without a very
satisfactory answer. One of our half a dozen clients has
lost access to a set of OSTs:

lustre 1.8.3 upgrade observations
Hello,
1) when compiling the lustre modules for the server the ./configure script behaves a bit odd.
The --enable-server option is silently ignored when the kernel is not 100% patched.
Unfortunatly the build works for the server, but during the mount the error message claims about a missing "lustre" module which is loaded and running.
What is really missing are the ldiskfs et al

NFS Performance
Hi,
With help from Oleg we got the right patches applied and NFS working
well. Maximum performance was about 60 MB/sec. Last week that dropped
to about 12.5 MB/sec and I cannot find a reason. Lustre clients all
obtain 100+ MB/sec on GigE. Each OST is good for 270 MB/sec. When
mounting the client on one of the OSSs I get 230 MB/sec. Seems the
speed is there. How can NFS and Lustre be tuned

Lost folders after changing MDS
OK, so our old MDS had hardware issues so I configured a new MGS / MDS on a VM (this is a backup lustre filesystem and I wanted to separate the MGS / MDS from OSS of the previous), and then did this:
For example:
mount -t ldiskfs /dev/old /mnt/ost_old
mount -t ldiskfs /dev/new /mnt/ost_new
rsync -aSv /mnt/ost_old/ /mnt/ost_new
# note trailing slash on ost_old/
If you are unable to connect both

Lost OSTs, remounted, now /proc/fs/lustre/obdfilter/$UUID/ is empty
Hello,
We had a problem with our disk controller that required a reboot. 2 of
our OSTs remounted and went through the recovery window but clients
hang trying to access them. Also /proc/fs/lustre/obdfilter/$UUID/ is
empty for that OST UUID.

LXC libvirt support
Hi,
Has anyone used libvirt to start/stop/manage LXC (linux containers) ?
Is it supported at all? Last I tried, had few issues and the reply was
:

Note that libvirt lxc driver is a different implementation from lxc tools
and doesn't use lxc tools internally. You may not be able to do what
you are doing with lxc tools. Especially, the driver doesn't take aware
