Question about --partial-dir and aborted transfers of large files
Apologies to the list, the title of this thread is completely wrong. It
should be something like "Question about --partial-dir and aborted
transfers of large files". Let's see if this mailing list program will
allow me to change it...

maintaining ownership with cygwin/rsync?
OK, I know a lot about unix environments and am very familiar with
rsync (and a big fan). My MS windows knowledge is at "I play a doctor
on TV" stage. Hmm. OK, the analogy needs work. I know what the words
mean and can stumble my way through many common problems.
And now I'm trying to use rsync (2.6.3) from the most recent cygwin
distribution. It works fine, except that

rsync practical size limit?
David,
I've used rsync to transfer multiple terabytes when replacing or
consolidating storage. The practical limit is not the overall size, but
there are a couple that will crop up:
1. This is alluded to in the FAQ, but the relationship between
amount of memory on the hosts and the number of files per sync is
important. Rsync will use ~100 bytes per file on both the source and

Any work-around for very large number of files yet?
Yes, I've read the FAQ, just hoping for a boon...
I'm in the process of relocating a large amount of data from one nfs server
to another (Network Appliance filers). The process I've been using is to
nfs mount both source and destination to a server (solaris8) and simply use
rsync -a /source/ /dest . It works great except for the few that have > 10

detect-renamed.diff update to ensure existence of directory for partial-dir
The detect-renamed patch is an amazing patch with one problem: It doesn't
work when a file is moved to a directory that doesn't exist on the
receiving end. In this case it reverts to transferring the entire file.
This problem is easily solved by a simple change to the
detect-renamed.diff patch in this ticket:

Gentoo HOWTO is outdated
Hi there!
This HOWTO is outdated:
http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/GentooEbuilds
x11-base/nouveau-drm from the x11 overlay asks for the 3.2 version of
kernel, but the latest version is 3.1.5.
This advice is also wrong: "These ebuilds do not have any keyword, as
it is usual with cvs/svn/git releases. To be able to install them, you
have to mark them with ** in package.keywords."

[LLVMdev] outdated debug metamata doc?
Yes, that is what I was mentioning. (I did not go through all of them.)
There are also some minor alignment issues such as
- basic, derived, composite type descriptors (second fields)
- subprogram descriptor (Function field)

outdated timezone info
Just upgraded 4.7 to 4.8 stable.
Hoped that timezone info will be up to date, but it still isn't though files
in /usr/share/zoneinfo show new dates.
For instance daylight saving time settings are outdated in Europe/Vilnius
file.
I'll try to recompile those files from sources got fom

Outdated Document - DOMAIN-CONTROL.txt
Dear Sir
I been reading through your (?) samba-doc folder on Debian 2.2.
The document DOMAIN-CONTROL.txt is dated 1996 and updated
1998. It mentions that SAMBA cannot be a PDC. This is not the
case anymore isn't it?
Thank you

Outdated "bogon" filtering
Sorry if this is somewhat offtopic, but I''m interested in knowing how
many on the list either manage or have dealt with networks in the
following address blocks that have been recently assigned by ARIN:
58.0.0.0/24
59.0.0.0/24
69.0.0.0/24 through 72.0.0.0/24
82.0.0.0/24 through 88.0.0.0/24
We have recently changed ISPs and ended up with an address block in
the 72.x space, which is

MSFlexGrid control(msflxgrd.ocx) always gives a maybe outdated error
I have a few apps at work that use the msflxgrd.ocx control and have
been trying for several years to see if one day it will work with a new
release of wine but that day has not yet come. I have finally decided
to post to this list about it instead of sitting idle and see if anyone
might be able to help find the problem and see how big of a deal it is
to fix.
