R table as integrable object for large Latex Documents - avoiding SWeave
Hi, I am wondering whether some of you have a pointer to an alternative. I am currently writing my thesis in Latex (several documents), well grown over time, I am sure many of you are familiar with the situation. Likewise I am doing the quantitative analysis with R, and again a lot of lines of more or less wellwritten code. The outputs are graphs (which one can wonderfully integrate as PNG objects

LaTeX consistent publication graphics from R and Comparison of GLE and R
Hi Everyone I am at the moment preparing my thesis and am looking at producing a few Organigrams / Flow charts (unrelated to the calculations in R) as well as a range of charts (barcharts, histograms, ...) based on calculations in R. For the Organigrams I am looking at an Opensource package called GLE at sourceforge, which produces the text part in Latex figures which is very neat and also in

Subtract matrices within arrays along indices
I have the following array: 3 dimensional object, one dimension being year. Re place Values within vector using Translation vector
Dear everyone I would like to change values in vectors doing a translation. i.e. I have a start vector giving me the levels in one vector (numbers 1 to x - rating) and then I have a second vector giving me the values to be allocated (loss probabilities), but the number of potential rating classes and loss estimates is still subject to a lot of discussion. Attached a simplified version of the

Adjusting the Axis in a histogram to the prespecified breaks
Hello I tried a few searches on hist, histogram, equidist and space (space=0 was mentioned in one contribution), but none of that so far worked. It also says in the help "##-- For non-equidistant breaks, counts should NOT be graphed unscaled:" - which is precisely what I am looking for, but I cannot find it. I want to make a histogram using breaks which are spaced exponentially and in

Generate a sequence of vectors of different length
Hi everyone After the following setup sector=2 # Define Number of Sectors sectors=LETTERS[seq( from = 1, to = sector )] # Name sectors No_ent=round(3/runif(sector)) # Number of entities per sector #Tot_No_ent=sum(No_ent) Goal is to get a List like (A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3, B4) where A is denoting an industrial sector and then a numbered sequence of companies within the sector. Request for introductory document
After 25 years of using SPSS syntax I am having some problems adapting to R. It would be a huge help for people like myself to have an introductory help document, like "R for SPSS Users". Such a document would jump start SPSS users by covering the use of the foreign function to read ".sav" files, then show equivalent R syntax for the most common SPSS procedures. Once

Solutions to exercises in "Introductory Statistics with R" OR Intro. to R Book Suggestions with Solutions Available
Hi-- I'm trying to teach myself R using Peter Dalgaard's "Introductory Statistics with R." Does anyone know if there are solutions available for the exercises? I'm really just hoping to learn by going through exercises and checking myself, so alternatively, does anyone know of an introductory textbook to R that does have answers available either in the back or online?

R Introductory Slides...
Hi there, I have just written a short introduction to R that I am intended to use in a tutorial in my programming club. I wrote it as an undergraduate student. Therefore I have put considerations on what kind of stuff will be of interests to most of the students. Many of my friends I talked to didn't like R much, however after I showed them what it can do most of them were impressed and

Introductory statistics and introduction to R
Hi, I have a bright, diligent second-year graduate student who wants to learn statistics and R and will, in effect, be taking a tutorial from me on these subjects. (If you've seen some of my questions on this list, please don't laugh.) As an undergrad he majored in philosophy, so this will be his first foray into computer programming and statistics. I'm thinking of having him use

Problem trying to use boot and lme together
The outcome variable in my dataset is cost. I prefer not to transform it as readers will really be interested in pounds, not log(pounds) or sqrt(pounds). I have fitted my model using lme and now wish to use boot on it. I have therefore plagiarised the example in the article in RNews 2/3 December 2002 after loading the dataset I source this file

There is also a coworker here who had used Splus at a previous employer. We both would like some access to the S language. We are considering either begging loud and long to try to get the agency to purchase two copies of
