We had used Samba 4 alpha 17 for a long time and want to update our server now to Samba 4.0.x. The old Samba versions was using NTVFS and Samba 4.0.x is now using S3FS by default. I've noticed that the samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset --use-s3fs command does not work on a ZFS filesystem on FreeBSD. It does work if sysvol is moved to a volume that is able to be mounted with the acls flag. I will reference a ticket I started with FreeNAS here: https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/4351 As of version 9.2.1.1 s3fs is now the default using the workaround known for FreeBSD.

Hi I just joined a Samba 3.6.3 machine as a file server for a Samba4 domain. Normal users can login and reach the shares apart from the domain Administrator. After Administrator has logged in, any attempt to reach the file server results in a username and password prompt. Since I've been having some issues with it (see Internal dns server stops forwarding) I would like to change to bind9, but now I don't have the files samba4 creates to use with it because I started using the internal dns server. Recently I migrated to samba4 in my company. So far so good. debian 6 samba4.1.0pre1 bind9.9.1-P1 (working pretty well. it even updates the reverse zone and no problems at all with the forwarder) ntp-4.2.6p5 All services authenticating with samba4: mail (postfix + dovecot + squirrelmail), jabber (openfire), proxy (squid), even MS Sql server 2000, Net Support Manager and GFI Endpoint Security.

I followed this http://linuxcostablanca.blogspot.com/2012/01/samba-4-ubuntu.html and got dynamic dns updates working in forward zone. any ideas to get it working in the reverse zone too? By the way, nice article Steve. Best regards, Felix.

I have read in the samba http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO that you can start samba just typing samba at the command promt, but what are the commands to stop and restart the service? thanks
