Deleting file in /tmp directory
Hi, This is a bit of-topic, but since it has to do with /tmp permissions here it goes. Anyway, I'm sorry in advance for posting this. I have this PHP script (simplificated here), called delete_tmp.php that basically calls external commands: <?php $session_file = '/tmp/sess_89765' system(''rm -f' . ' ' . $session_file); ?> delete_tmp.php file is owned by

Fw: share a folder rw, but not deletable?
Is there a way in UNIX to make a folder with read+write permissions for some group of users, but only allow them to read and write to the folder... not actually delete the folder itself? I have some samba shares, and directories inside them that I want to remain with their current structure and permission settings -- with many similiar group-specific files inside each folder, but I don't want

modify only, not deletable
Hi folks, I have a samba file server joining a Windows 2k AD as member server. I wonder how I can setup the files on the samba share to be modifiable by users, but no one can delete them. Is it possible? linux chattr command doesn't seems to help, and I can only setup windows share permission (full control, read, write) for the samba files from windows interface, not NTFS detailed permissions.

Bug: Loosing Group Permissions in Archive Mode with Sticky Bit and ACL Mask
Hello, I currently try to copy a directory locally between two ext4 filesystems while preserving permissions and ACLs using the -aAX options. Under some conditions, rsync does not copy the posix permissions completely, it changes the group::rwx to a group::--- permission. The latest rsync available on Debian Jessie is 3.1.1, but the changelog for 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 did not seem to mention such a bug

Samba changes permissions on an executed file
I have a macro file that execute from a windows client: -rwxrwxrwx 1 ewood ewood 4800 Dec 1 08:33 ptmerge.wcm If another windows clients executes this file, they *take* ownership of it and the permissions change: -rwxr--r-- 1 rbinnick rbinnick 4800 Dec 1 08:35 ptmerge.wcm I don't care about ownership but I need the permission of the file to remain 777. Currently I have:

Strange behaviour regarding timestamps when copying files
Hi all, we observed a strange effect when copying an file within a samba share: Both atime an mtime of the target file are set to the mtime of the original file. The atime of the original file is updated to the current time. 1. Status of the original file: # stat test.txt File: `test.txt' Size: 3 Blocks: 8 IO Block: 4096 regular file Device: 811h/2065d

Sticky bit problem
Hi We are building a Linux app under Centos 5.3, using gnu make 3.81 and gcc 4.12. The working directory is on a remote machine and is either a Samba share or a Windows 7 share. We find that in the case of a Windows 7 share the resulting executable has the sticky bit set in group: On Windows 7 share: -rwxrwSrwx 1 <snip> myapp On Samba share: -rwxrwx--x+ 1 <snip> myapp The

Deleting undeletable files gives no error
I have an odd problem that involves clients deleting files they should not be able to delete, and claiming success, but then the files "come back" again. Here's the setup: I have a filesystem that contains a file "foobar.txt" owned by user "test", group "test". Permissions on this file are 644, permissions on the enclosing directory are 777. I share

OSX 10.9, sticky-bit and deleting other people's stuff
Hello! First question I have ever asked here.. and I attribute that to the many people that have documented the crap out of how to do things with Samba.. thanks to all!!? I have a client using Samba 3.6.3 on Ubuntu 12.04.2. There are about 30 shares, 50 users. Not sure how much of this is needed, but it seems pointless to post unless I at least post this: # Auth ?security = user ?encrypt

deleting print jobs
hi, i've a little problem with deleting print jobs. let me briefly explain. i've several win95/win3.11 machines that print to linux machines running samba (1.9.18 or 1.9.17, it depends). print services are all public, so no password is needed to print. but when someone tries to delete his/her print job, after a pause, the windows machine says that he/she has to contact the administrator or

Asking for recommendations on Asterisk Boxes or Appliances
Hi there, I am looking to buy an Asterisk Appliance or Box for my organization and was hoping to ask for recommendations. My ideal box is a small device in size like Digium's AA50 Asterisk Appliance ( http://www.digium.com/en/products/appliance/ ) but will still have these technical features : -> Run Linux obviously -> Run a fullly configurable distro of Asterisk (not embedded) -> Can

Cisco 7940 Configuration
Hello all, I recently purchased a Cisco 7940 IP phone to do some testing with (to validate a migration to asterisk for our internal PBX needs). I understand that I need to update the phone for it to support SIP, so I configured the phone with an IP address and pointed it at my tftp server. When I reboot the phone I am currently getting "TFTP File Not Found SEPDefault.cnf" in the
