Samba4 upgrade compatability
I have an existing install of Samba4 ( I think beta6 vintage ), which uses ntvfs and bind9. It's only providing AD and Group Policy. I have a seperate file server running 3.6.x. I want to add a server to the domain running the most recent RC. I know they are using internal by default and s3fs for the file shares on sysvol. Can s3fs coexist with ntvfs? Can the internal DNS coexist with

Samba4, ZFS and FreeBSD
Hi all, I am in the process of finding the best way to use Samba4 as an AD under FreeBSD and ZFS. The following is based on own research, google, mail archives, a bit of source code etc. So please correct me if I am wrong. 1. ZFS is using NFSv4 ACLs. 2. NFSv4 ACLs are modelled with NTFS (Windows) ACLs in mind. 3. Samba4 started with a new ntvfs file server but that was abandoned (or

smbclient username not working
I joined a samba 3.5.10 server to a samba4 active directory domain. Windows clients can't browse the root of the servers shares (\\192.168.10.10 ) but they can access the shares if I manually mount them. The following command works on the server that samba 3.5 is running on. smbclient -U administrator -L 127.0.0.1 The following command gives a NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE on a client

FreeBSD 8.1 & Samba4 alpha11 domain controller - cldapd bind problem
I've been trying to run samba4 alpha11 on a FreeBSD 8.1 system as a domain controller but I'm having trouble starting the cldapd server. For some reason it won't bind to the specified address or interface whatever I specify in smb.conf. I managed running the provision script without any trouble but I have no clue how to solve this problem in order to start the samba server. bitrot#

Samba 4 AD - Samba Fails to Start, hdb_samba4_create_kdc (setup KDC database) failed
Hello to the Samba Mailing List, This is my first post, so please, should I commit any faux pas, nudge me in the right direction and I will adjust accordingly. I'm experiencing a complete failure of the PDC in a Samba 4 AD Domain I've deployed for a client. Samba failed a few days ago and I've been unable to resolve the issue on my own. Google searches are leading me in circles,

Support for multiple file streams?
Hello, Look like demand for multiple file streams support increased lately. Does samba 3 series intend to support it any time soon? Look like SAMBA 4 is working on it based on the following form Andrew Tridgell: One simple but important example of how the new NTVFS layer helps is the addition of support for "NT file streams." A file in a NT filesystem can have multiple

Samba 4 Kerberos: Failed to decrypt PA-DATA
Hi everyone After almost 2 days up-time with Samba 4, it failed again. This time it simply will not restart. The krb5.conf had got corrupted. SAMBA 4 ACL support
Hi all, I am experimenting with samba 4. I have existing data on NTFS partition and want to share them via samba. But I have problems with permissions (ACL). There is an option: ntvfs handler that tells how mapping of permissions between unix and windows world shall behave. But there is lack of documentation. So I tried posix, simiple but in either case I wasnot able to write even set permissions

Filesystem does not support posix ACLs
Thanks a lot for the reference how to make the regtest. One last question please, if understand this correctly, the --use-ntvfs isnot available by default when installing the Debian package, so I need to compile samba with --with-ntvfs-fileserver to make the option available? Using LDAP with samba
is it possible and how difficult is it, to use LDAP for all the user accounts and groups and password management? would this be something you would want to do? or is it better to stick with samba's initila way of dealing with users? Caleb O'Connell caleb@lincoln.midcoast.com (207)882-7792

Samba 4 Alpha 17 to 4.0.x update - questions concerning S3FS / NTVFS
We had used Samba 4 alpha 17 for a long time and want to update our server now to Samba 4.0.x. The old Samba versions was using NTVFS and Samba 4.0.x is now using S3FS by default. So, what is the best practice now? Should we stay on NTVFS or should we switch to S3FS? The global part of our smb.conf looks like this: --- [global] interfaces = eth0 netbios name = PDC
