Fine Tuning Country Map
Dear All, Please see the short script at the end of the email, which I assembled looking for bits and pieces on the web. It essentially does what I need: it plots several countries as a color-coded map. I just would like to fine-tune a bit the final image, in particular (1) Select my own colors for "painting" the countries (i.e. associate manually a color to every level) (2) Be

Trying to rename spatial pts data frame slot that isn't a slot()
Dear List, I am analyzing the home range area of fish and seem to have lost the individuals ID names during my manipulations, and can't find out how to rename them. I calculated the MCP of the fish using mcp() in Adehabitat. MCP's were converted to spatial points data frame and exported to qGIS for manipulations. At this point the ID names were lost. I brought the manipulated

SpatialPolygon with the max value gets no color assigned in spplot function when using "at" parameter
Hi, I would like to do coloring of map regions based on the region values "weight". The approach I am taking is first to break regions into equal intervals, classIntervals(spdf$weight,4)$brks #4 intervals in this case and coloring all regions within the interval with the same color col = brewer.pal(4,"RdYlGn")) The max "weight" is as well the boundary of the

Latitude Longitude to SPDF
Hi Team, Need your guidance in building SPDF objects from Latitude, Longitude Information available. I am using package "plotGoogleMaps" which is really awesome but it requires SPDF objects to build the maps. I have a data frame which have Latitude and Longitude information and wanted to convert it in SPDF for making maps. Please help me to find suitable package or function to convert

maptools, write.polylistShape
Dear Roger, I am trying to use the write.polylistShape() function of maptools for the first time and realize that it handles list of polygons of class 'polylist'. However, it seems that no as.polylist() function exist in the package. The question behind that is: in your opinion, which would be the best way to convert a list of matrix of polygon nodes coordinates into an object of

GADM Data Download
Dear All, Please consider the snippet at the end of the email. I often download some maps (in the R format) from http://www.gadm.org/ However, when I run (typically more than once) a variation of the script below (based on http://bit.ly/1b3W0Aa ), I often get Error in load(url(paste("http://gadm.org/data/rda/", fileName, "_adm", : cannot open the connection In

extracting coordinates from SpatialPolygonsDataFrame using slot functions
In converting some older code: ## builds an OWIN to generate a set of points on a grid within the OWIN object: bdry <- read.shape( "../../data/boundary.shp" ) outline.verts <- bdry$Shapes[[2]]$verts[1:bdry$Shapes[[2]]$Pstart[2],] outline.order <- nrow( outline.verts ) : 2 bdry.poly <- vector( 2, mode="list" ) bdry.poly[[1]] <- list(

automating a script to read a file
Hi, The following script (which I did not develop) is used to calculate and plot a skewed normal curve. The script currently requires the user to input six parameters, rather than reading these directly from a file. I've been spinning wheels here, trying to figure out how to modify the script to automate it. I have four data sets, each in excess of 300 records that I need to process. My

stack or dissolve matrix without double entries
Heja, I've some bigger distance-matrices like this: num [1:3231, 1:3231] 0.000 0.176 0.176 0.176 0.176 ... - attr(*, "dimnames")=List of 2 ..$ : chr [1:3231] "A" "B" "C" "D" ... ..$ : chr [1:3231] A" "B" "C" "D" . I actually want to convert them into a 2 column dataframe like this: data.frame':

Problem with converting a list of grids to a list of polygons
Hi. For a spatial analysis (its visualization) I need to produce a map of conditions and traits. When I used SpatialPixelsDataFrame (sp package) my grid cells were regular and between each row was a small gap, which is not only messy but incorrect. So I generated the coords of each grid from the centroids in order to elongate the cells manually (or does anybody know another way to solve this?).

SpatialPolygonsDataFrame to map conversion?
Dear list, I'd like to use the function smooth.map{maps} to smooth out aggregated spatial data. The first argument to this function must be a map object. I have a shape file which I read with readShapeSpatial{maptools} and I got an object of class "SpatialPolygonsDataFrame". Is it possible to create a map object from a SpatialPolygonsDataFrame object? Alternatively, is there any

plot methods in sp
Dear listers, I am working since a while with the sp package and still wonder how the plot methods are managed with sp spatial objects. For instance, SpatialPolygonsDataFrame objects have obviously a plot method. However it cannot be found in the list provided by methods(plot) . Furthermore ?plot.SpatialPolygonsDataFrame, nor ?plot.SpatialPolygons, etc.. provide a help, though the lattice

Errors running spdplyr example
Dear All, When I tried to run the following code (taken from the *spdplyr* package vignettes): library(spdplyr) library(maptools) data(wrld_simpl) worldcorner <- wrld_simpl %>% mutate(lon = coordinates(wrld_simpl)[,1], lat = coordinates(wrld_simpl)[,2]) %>% filter(lat < -20, lon > 60) %>% dplyr::select(NAME) I got the following error messages: Error in (function (cl,

How to produce rainfall maps
Thank you Sarah and Mike for your explanations. My final objective is to produce maps (png image or any kind of extension I can import in LaTeX) where rainfall data are interpolated, using the Inverse Distance method or Kriging. My input file (pointfile.csv in the reported example) reports the station code, lat and long of the meteorological station and the rainfall value (which might be the

while( ) to get a vector until the sum of elements are <= X ?
I have a vector of values X = seq(1:10) I want to get another vector V of with sample (with replacement) of X but with a constrain: V will have as much elements as those necessary to V sum exactly 10. If the N-th value of V make the sum greater than 10, it's is subtracted with the difference to achieve the constrain. I don't know how to achieve this. with a while?

How to produce rainfall maps
Fwiw the engine behind geom_raster needs explicit observation-per-row form for input (with no structural normalization), so conversion to points is perfectly proper here, albeit confusing in context. (It's closer to what graphics devices actually use ultimately, but the expansion is laid out very early in ggplot2 because there's no standard for intermediate forms.) Cheers, Mike On Wed,

adehabitat version 1.4
Dear all, I have just uploaded to CRAN the version 1.4 of the package 'adehabitat'. Significant changes are listed below: - The eigenanalysis of selection ratios (Calenge and Dufour, 2006, Ecology) can now be performed using the function eisera(). It can be used for the analysis of habitat selection when habitat can be considered to consist of several habitat types (e.g.

SpatialPolygonsDataFrame holes problem
I have obtained shapefiles for Indian states from here: http://www.maptell.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=159&func=fileinfo&filecatid=115&parent=category Problem: I want to extract centroid coordinates for each State, but there is some coding problem with the shapefiles that prevents this. #Code: #After extracting the shapefiles from the india_state.zip file, then:
