re-install a package
Hi All, I have a self-cooked package and save it to a zip file after running make, say named xxx.zip. After installing it to R by running "Install packages from local zip files" under Packages menu in R (Windows), I realized I needed to change some source codes and re-make it. My question is that if I need re-install that package or R would automatically update the R

Sampling data without having infinite numbers after diong a transformation
Hello R-helpers.. I want to ask about how I can sample data sets without having the infinite numbers coming out. For example, set.seed(1234) a<-rnorm(15,0,1) b<-rnorm(15,0,1) c<-rnorm(15,0,1) d<-rnorm(15,0,36) After come out with the sample, I need to do a transformation (by Hoaglin, 1985) for each data set. Actually I need to measure the skewness and kurtosis, that's why I

Problem loading package 'JGR' using R-2.15.0 (Win32).
Hi all. Upon attempting to load the 'JGR' package, on a Win32 machine (SP3), a pop-up message appeared stating that R had encountered a problem and needs to close. Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks. ~Caitlin [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

R and igraph problems
I have R 2.15.0 running under Windows 7. I installed the igraph 0.5.4 package from a zip file. When I attempt to load igraph using "library(igraph)", I get the error package igraph is not installed for arch=x64.  When I repeat this using the 32-bit version of R, I get the same basic error but with "arch=i386" instead of x64. Windows 7 installation issues
I installed R version 2.15.0 under C:/ on a PC running Windows 7.  When I load library("tools") to test the installation and then run the command testInstalledPackages("base"), I get the following error: Error in setwd(outDir): cannot change working directory. I have set up the R shortcut to run it as administrator. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

sprintf doesn't care of escape characters
Hi. I am having trouble with something that should be simple. I am unable to get sprintf using escape sequences: > sprintf("a\nb") [1] "a\nb" > sprintf("a\"bc\"d") [1] "a\"bc\"d" But it seems to need them any way: > sprintf("a\"bc"d") Error: unexpected symbol in "sprintf("a\"bc"d"

system command to a specific shell (bash)
I need to run a bash command, but when you call system() the default shell is sh (see my sessionInfo below). I found the shell command ( http://www.stat.ucl.ac.be/ISdidactique/Rhelp/library/base/html/shell.html) but it seems to be disappeared in current versions of R? I am running all this from R CMD BATCH with "system" calls to other R scripts. For a little more info, I'm

Problems installing Packages
Hello, I am going through Zhao's RDataMining PDF, and to redo all the graphics on my computer, I need several packages, 'coin' and 'party' to name two. I get the following error: > install.packages("coin") Installing package(s) into ?/home/sven/R/i686-pc-linux-gnu-library/2.15? (as ?lib? is unspecified) trying URL

Equivalent of gtools::mixedsort in R base
Hi, Searching for functions that would order strings that mix characters and numbers in a "natural" way (ie, "a1 a2 a10" instead of "a1 a10 a2"), I found the mixedsort and mixedorder from the gtools package. Problems: 1- mixedorder does not work in a "do.call(mixedorder, mydataframe)" call like the order function does 2- gtools has not been updated in 2.5

what folder to run write_PACKAGES in?
I set up a local repo for testing packages. My packages are not showing up from the repository when viewed by Linux clients. I suspect this is a web administrator/firewall issue, but it could be I created the repo wrongly. I am supposed to run write_PACKAGES separately in each R-version folder. Right? Maybe other novices can use these scripts, if they are not wrong :) Here's the file

Rcpp and mclapply
Dear all, I have an R script that uses Rcpp, and I have been trying to parallelize it using mclapply (I tried with the multicore and the parallel library) Sometimes (not always, interestingly), the CPU use for each core drops, usually so that the total over all cores reaches 100%, i.e., as fast as if using just one single core fully. I tried my code directly from within emacs, and also using a

Cropping a matrix by rows
Hello r-help, I've been banging my head against the computer in an attempt to learn how to divide my matrix into segments by rows. I want to be able to return each segment as a newly named object. I've tried looking at the apply functions and creating a for loop but brain no work. Here's the basic starting objects that I believe would be needed to separate the matrix. mat <-

counting values with some conditions in a simulation
Dear R users, I am running simulations (1000), and in my simulation I am looking at specific sums. For example, if the sum is >=4 then count this, if say <3, then don't count, if the sum=3, then generate a random number from uniform distribution, if this number is say less than 0.5, then count this sum, if greater than 0.5, then don't count. I am having trouble with introducing this
