Ctrl-C with R.exe and Rterm.exe in R v1.9.0
Hi, I'm running R v1.9.0 on WinXP Pro. I noticed that R.exe and Rterm.exe behave differently on Ctrl-C. Starting a Windows Command prompt (cmd.exe) you get from running Rterm.exe: C:\Program Files\R>rw1090\bin\Rterm.exe --vanilla --quiet > ^C > ^C > 1+1 [1] 2 > Sys.sleep(100) # Ctrl-C after a few seconds > ^C > ^C > 1+1 [1] 2 > q() C:\Program Files\R>

is auto-save possible?
Dear R-help, This is just a wishlist item: Is it possible at all to make R (optionally) automagically do save.image() periodically (e.g., every fixed number of commands or >= fixed amount of time)? The reason I asked is that I frequently run R-1.3.1 inside XEmacs 21.4.5/ESS 5.1.19 under WinNT, and had seen Rterm.exe crashed a few times for no apparent reason (and not reproducible). When

Ctrl-C at the Rterm prompt is remembered (unless pressing ENTER).
Hi, there is a minor glitch with Ctrl-C on Windows: 1. Start Rterm.exe 2. Press Ctrl-C (without ENTER afterwards) to generate a user interrupt signal. 3. Type Sys.sleep(1e6) + ENTER. 4. The user interrupt in Step 2 causes Sys.sleep() in Step 3 to be interrupted. I can reproduce this behavior on Windows 7 64-bit and 'Rterm.exe' with R v2.13.0 (2011-04-13), v2.15.0 Patched (2012-05-26

Port of R header files to Delphi
I'm in the process of porting R header files to Delphi. The short term aim is to be able to make calls into the R.dll from Delphi; the longer term aim is to play around with writing a Windows front-end with some of the features of the S-PLUS environment (e.g. scripts), and other features from other IDEs I've used (e.g. watch windows, popup values of variables selected by mouse, etc.)

Avoiding Delete key function as 'Quit R' in Rterm when there are no characters in cursor line

There is no way to disable this functionality and it has existed for very long time, I tested that at least in R 3.0. Optionally ending the session was I believe intentional with Ctrl+D, when the input is empty, and it is also

Rterm.exe stops responding to keyboard input
I've been trying to use Rterm.exe, mainly because of Rgui.exe's lack of support for incremental history searching. But on my system (Win XP, SP3), it (rterm from R-2.8.1) frequently just stops responding to keyboard input. This happens often (enough to make it unusable), and generally after a switch to another window. It doesn't seem to hang exactly, as if I leave it a while (minutes)

Calling R from R and specifying "wait until script is finished"
Hello, Let's say I have 50 R scripts to run. What would be the most efficient way to run them? I thought I could do multiple Rterms in a DOS batch file: Ex: Rterm <1.R> 1.txt Rterm <2.R> 2.txt ... Rterm <50.R> 50.txt However, I'm afraid they will all open at the same time. I know I could pause the batch file with something like: PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 60000

Odd behavior on Windows: Rgui responds to user interrupts (Ctrl-C) at the Windows command prompt (iff launched from one)
On Windows, 1. Open the Windows Command interpreter (cmd.exe). 2. Launch rgui.exe --vanilla. 2. In RGui, (disable Misc -> Buffered output) and run the following endless loop: > i <- 0; repeat { print(i <- i + 1); Sys.sleep(0.1) } [1] 1 [1] 2 [1] 3 ... 3a. Back at the Windows command line, press Ctrl-C (user interrupt). This will interrupt Rgui! 3b. Alternatively, start Rterm.exe

rterm 1.1.1 under windows 2000
Hello, I am experiencing trouble with r-term 1.1.1 for windows 2000. When I start rterm, and I get a prompt, it seems to freeze after any assignment statement (so, if I type x_rnorm(1000), I don't get another prompt). Statements that don't involve assignment statements (like "plot(rnorm(1000))") seem to work, and I get a new prompt. The Rgui seems to work fine, and if I *can*

Moving Rterm.exe to another location
Colleagues, I have encountered the following situation in R (2.9.0) with Windows XP. I have an application that calls Rterm.exe. In certain situations, the application terminates but fails to close R. Then, the next time that the application runs, there are replicated copies of R running - this slows the system. One solution would be to kill any open versions of Rterm.exe each time

repeat { readline() }
Hi. Using Rterm v2.2.1 on WinXP, is there a way to interrupt a call like repeat { readline() } without killing the Command window? Rterm
Dear all, Two questions regarding rterm First: C:\Program Files\R\rw1081\bin\rterm.exe --vanilla <test.r --args "Arg1" "Arg2" worked for me so far with r Version 1081, to start a R script with the given arguments. With R1090 C:\Program Files\R\rw1090\bin\rterm.exe --vanilla <test.r --args "Arg1" "Arg2" There is the error message: Rterm.exe

No exit codes from RTerm (Windows) (PR#9296)
Full_Name: Russell V. Lenth Version: 2.3.1 OS: Windows XP Pro Submission from: (NULL) (128.255.132.188) I wrote a simple .BAT file to run the Sweave function on a file (via RTerm), then run pdflatex on the result (after RTerm exits). The issue is that if an error condition occurs in RTerm, it is prudent to not do the pdflatex processing afterward. Here are the relevant statements in the BAT

Use Rterm in rxvt for Cygwin?
Dear R users, Does anyone notice that Rterm.exe does not work well with rxvt.exe, an xterm emulator for Cygwin? It produces an error message window with the following message: This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor It also prints "Signal 127" in rxvt window. Rterm --ess, however, works.

Avoiding Delete key function as 'Quit R' in Rterm when there are no characters in cursor line
That looks to me like a bug, but I don't use Windows any more, so I won't offer to try to fix it for you. In fact I don't think Rterm has many users at all: most Windows users probably use RStudio or one of the other graphical front ends (Visual Studio, Emacs, Rgui, etc.) So maybe you can track down the issue, or someone else will try. Or maybe you'll just have to avoid
