Reading Wyoming radiosonde data files with RadioSonde package
Hi, I need to do some analysis on historic daily radiosonde data I download from the Wyoming Univ. web page ( http://weather.uwyo.edu/upperair/sounding.html). I am trying to use the RadioSonde package (V 1.3), but the format of the files from Wyoming don't match what RadioSonde is expecting. Has anyone used the Radiosonde package on the Wyoming data? Here is a sample of the Wyoming file

fs block level syncing
Right now we do a lot of hard to hard disk backup by using rsync to weekly "mirror" the source filesystem to a backup filesystem. This works fairly well for most sources. However, one issue with rsync is that simple things like changing the file name or directory name cause the whole file or directory structure to get recopied over a previous sync. Also, like for mail spools, large

searching model and has_one association
Howdy. I have these models: User, field "mundane_name" user has_one :instructor_profile (may or may not exist) instructor_profile, field "sca_name" belongs_to :user I would like to craft a search on these fields, which is effectively this, but in one go: matching_users = User.where("mundane_name ILIKE ?", "%#{target}%") matching_profiles =

creation date and OSX
Hi, I've been using rsync (OSX Tiger now Leopard) to backup my home folder daily using -a -H -A -X link-dest=dir to make incremental backups. There was a problem though since many files especially images, movies etc would be recopied each time instead of creating hard links. I have been testing the pre5 release and found that it seems to make hard links correctly for all files. I

I am having trouble with a simple gallery search. I type in a segment of the address and i only seem to be getting results if I use the correct case. This is in my Gallery controller: def search @gallery = Gallery.find(:all, :include => :property, :conditions => "address LIKE ''%#{@params[:keywords]}%''") end On a different note: I am having

/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs freezes during boot up
I have another problem, but I have found a work around. However, I don't know why it works. I was hoping someone could help. With some help from some previous people on the list, I have my CentOS 4 install to work. I had some previous problems with PCMCIA freezing which was caused by my video card. The next thing to freeze was /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs. My first work around was to linux

mdbox + alt storage + purge = wtf ...
All, Is there a bug in doveadm purge ? Configured alt storage and move messages in inbox to the alternate path all well and good. However, after deleting some messages and running a purge on the mailbox found that all messages got recopied over to primary location. I guess this maybe because its re-writing the file and ditching the purged mail .. but shouldnt it keep a track that they were

File timestamp and robocopy
Hi all, I'm trying to sincronize a share from a W2K to a samba 3.0.13-1 server. The problem i'm having has to do with the timestamps of the file that causes every file to get recopied by robocopy every time. Example: Doing a stat on the Samba side: File: `client.dat' Size: 7804 Blocks: 16 IO Block: 4096 regular file Device: 6807h/26631d Inode: 8815015

fuzzy search
This may be offtopic to Rails, but what are people doing to find records based on fuzzy string matches? For example, if you wanted to find a Person with name "David Heinemeier Hansson" but searched using the string "Dave Hansson". Currently I am find_by_sql that calls the PostgreSQL function "levenshtein(string1, string2)" which returns results with a score

Rails + postgres case insensitive searches.
Hello all I am wondering how rails handles case sensitivity in databases. If I do a Person.find_all_by_name("tim") in mysql I would expect to get tim, TIm, and Tim. Do I only get tim in postgres? How do other people deal with this? Do you resort to find_by_sql for all your postgres queries to get case insensitive results?
