Exposing native httpd server
R has a native HTTP server that is used for serving R help pages
interactively, at least on the loopback device (127.0.0.1)
But all of the working are internal, not exposed to user and not documented.
This is quite shame since the server seems to be fully capable of
handling basic tasks,
be it serving static websites or even interactively processing queries.

concurrent requests (Rook, but I think the question is more general)
This question involves Rook, but I think the answer will be general
enough that it pays to post here. At any rate, I don't know enough to
know whether this is a Rook only issue or a general R issue.
Here's what I'd like to do (and indeed, have code that should do this):
1. Start R, Rook
2. Start an analysis via a HTTP request to Rook. This analysis uses
.Call() to some compiled C

R 2.10 and help
Hi all,
I've been developing a little project for the past few months on R2.9.
The project utilises RServe to access R over at tcp/ip connection.
One feature of the project is to take R-Help and display it to the
user through my own UI. In 2.9 this worked well as all the html help
was pre-generated - I could ask R to find the help (e.g. help(plot)
would return the rd file), and then I could

OT - Automated rpm builds
Hi
Currently devs check code into perforce and we have to checkout >
package > update repo > deploy
I know this could be scripted but are there any tools out there that can
take code from a repository and build rpm's in a continuous integration
type manner? I have been hunting around for such a tool and so far not
seeing anything obvious as i dont want to reinvent the wheel if

paths and Rook problems only in OSX CRAN binary package?
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to diagnose a problem in my R package, but it is a little
tricky since it seems to occur only with the Mac OSX CRAN binary build.
My package starts a Rook server and opens a browser. On my own system
(details below), when I build the package, I have no trouble. The Rook
server starts and the page loads in the browser.
However, if I've installed it from CRAN, I

Exposing native httpd server
Dear Simon and Jeroen,
thank you for your answers. I have to reiterate that I am out of my
depth in here. My knowledge of http is clicking links and not much
beyond that.
I will definitely look into `webutils` and `Rserve`.
One of the reason why I brought this issue is that I have a static site
generator that uses the pkg `servr` to serve the static site locally,
before I push it to github

Exposing native httpd server
Ji??,
in a sense there are two quite different issue that you are touching upon. On one hand, your request for exposing the http server is something I was pretty much expecting. In order to judge the appetite for it I have included the support for custom handlers back then as inofficial API specifically so that if anyone cares we could work on refining it (really only Jeff and Hadley ever asked

One account can access samba, another can't.
My wife and I each have our own workstation dual-booting WinXP and
Gentoo Linux. We also have a third which runs Gentoo all the time. I
wanted to set up samba on the third box and provide some extra storage
space for both our Windows installs. It worked for a few days, then all
of a sudden it stopped letting my account (michael) in while still
letting my wife's account (amy) use the share.

Exposing native httpd server
I absolutely appreciate the desire for minimalism. On the other hand
Rserve has no dependencies other than R >= 1.5.0 (!!!), so you would in
any case be cutting your dependencies way down (`servr` has 16 recursive
dependencies of which 5 seem to be base/recommended, presumably this is
where your count of 12 came from; `Rserve` has none).

[patch/cygwin]: Fix documentation
Hi,
could somebody with checkin rights please apply the below patch?
It modernizes and improves readability of the Cygwin README file
(which hasn't been updated for ages), drops unsupported OSes from
the ssh-host-config help text, and drops an unneeded option from
ssh-user-config.
Thanks in advance,
Corinna

Checkinstall and R-2.14.0
Dear all,
I try to install the latest R version using checkinstall (v. 1.6.2) on
Ubuntu 11.10. After solving all the dependencies (installed using
apt-get build-dep r-base) checkinstall fails to build and install R
package with the following error (the same commands build and install
R-2.13.2 on the same machine without any problem):

Compatibility problem with R-2.9.0 and R-2.14.0
Hello all,
Using classical glm function with binomial family, I experienced a problem when using predict() over
a glm object.
I found that family objects built on R-2.14.0 contain elements like :
.Call(C_logit_link,...)
But on R-2.9.0, the object C_logit_link can not be found. Instead, this prior version used to call
more simply :
.Call("logit_link",...)
which causes no problem.
Is
