Generalized singular value decomposition
Hello,
I would like to perform a generalized singular value decomposition with
R. The only possibility I found is "GSVD" that is based on LAPACK/BLAS.
Are there other possibilities too?
If not, has anybody used LAPACK/BLAS under Windows XP? How can I install
them? Following [1] did not help.
I hope this is the right place for my question.
Thank you very much!

Using system() to dump HDF to text file?
Hi all --
I am working on 64-bit Windows XP. I'm not a very technical person when it
comes to the command line stuff, so please forgive me if this is a stupid
question.
I have a bunch of HDF files, and I want to dump a single PM25 data layer
from each file to .txt by invoking ncdump.exe from system(). Here's a
sample command string:
"C:/ncdump -v PM25 C:/01aug2010.hdf >

R crashes during 'eigen'
Hi all,
Hi,
When I want to compute the eigenvalues & eigenvectors of a specific
matrix, R crashes (i.e. it stops responding to any input). I've tried it
with different versions of R (2.1.1, 2.2.0, 2.2.1) - all with crashing
as result.
What I did before the crash was:
M <- as.matrix(read.table("thematrix",header=T))
eigen(M)
If, instead of eigen(M), I use eigen(M,

'init.win' error when installing from source
Dear R People:
I'm installing R 2-.15.1 on a Windows 32 bit machine from source.
I'm getting a strange error about init.win (please see below)
Does this look familiar to anyone, please?
Thanks,
Erin

linking to R.dll on Win32 - issues with recent MinGW?
I encountered several strange issues when linking to R.dll on Windows
and I wonder if anyone of the Windows savvy-folks here had seen some of
the issues before and have some explanation.
My Rserve links to R dynamic library. That works perfectly on unix
boxes and worked fairly well with older MinGW and older R (<=1.7.1).
What I do in fact is that I specify
-L$(R_HOME)/bin -lR
when linking.

R shutdown
Dear R Users,
I run simulation that takes very long time (R 2.2.1, Win XP pro., Rgui SDI
mode, editor Tinn-R).
It's happened that R shuts down and Windows display the message: Rgui.exe
makes an error and the application will shut down. Unfortunately everything
I lost. Below I paste the message that is created when error appear. Maybe
You as an expert will figure out what is happening to me.

R 2.6.0 Windows/lme4 Rblas load problem
Dear Windows Maintainers,
after installing R 2.6.0 on Windows 2000 and doing a complete update of the
libraries as recommended by B.Ripley, it get the error message:
The dynamic link library Rblas could not be found in the specified path....
Note that the message says "Rblas", not Rblas.dll as expected under Windows. The
path is correct, and Rblas.dll is present

Problem with tuned Rblas from CRAN with R-2.4.0
I encountered the following problem in R-2.4.0 for Windows binary downloaded from CRAN (data from R-help post by Ethan Johnsons). I was also using the contributed binary Rblas.dll for Intel P4 chip. The problem doesn't occur with the default Rblas.dll.

Building R-2.3.1 for Windows with ATLAS
Ok, moved to R-devel.
I tried to build R-2.3.1. Since I intent to distribute this tuned R to
all other who have a computer like mine here at work I thought it was
best to stay with the latest stable release.
About your suggestion, I could'n find xerblas.o file. And I don't know
how to edit libf77blas.a. I tried to open it with VIM
(http://vim.sf.net/) but there was a lot of strange

R crashes on new laptop
The problem is that R crashes with an exception "R for Windows GUI front-end
has encountered a problem and needs to close..." It doesn't always crash,
but almost always does.
Thanks for any help (fixes, workarounds, or diagnostics) you can provide!

R crash with ATLAS precompiled Rblas.dll on Windows XP Core2 Duo
I noticed a problem using R 2.7.1 on Windows XP SP2 with the precompiled
Atlas Rblas.dll. Running the code below causes R to crash. I started R
using Rgui --vanilla and am using the precompiled Atlas Rblas.dll from
cran.fhcrc.org dated 17-Jul-2007 05:04 for Core2 Duo.
The code that causes the crash:
x <- rnorm(100)
y <- rnorm(100)
z <- rnorm(100)
loess(z ~ x * y)
loess(z ~ x) does

Building R for Windows with ATLAS
I think this is not a R-devel question. Sorry to all if I'm wrong,
please let me know.
I managed to build R successfully with the default BLAS but when I
change the MKRULES to use ATLAS BLAS and set the path to
"C:/cygwin/home/Administrador/ATLAS/lib/WinNT_ATHLONSSE2" I got the
following error message (I'm posting only the final part, there was a
lot of compilation before this):

BLAS / LAPACK version information from within R-session?
Hi,
for diagnostic purposes, I would like to get information about
the BLAS / LAPACK linked against R from within an R-session.
An obvious application could be safety-checks for packages like
Matrix and quantreg at load / attach - time.
Also you could be more precise on the "framework" in which R
is running for comparable benchmark timings on different systems.
Perhaps this

Calling LAPACK functions directly from R
I am interested in tapping into LAPACK functionality directly from R.
Using R-2.4.1 for Windows, I was able to do so ala:
dyn.load("bin/Rlapack.dll")
is.loaded("dstebz") # returns TRUE
N <- 100
NW <- 4
n.tapers <- 5
tpW <- (2 * pi * NW)/N
otNmo <- 1:N
D <- as.double(cos(tpW) * ((N - 1 - 2 * (0:(N - 1)))/2)^2)
E <- as.double((otNmo * (N - otNmo))/2)
