Windows RConsole Focus
Hi, I was looking for a Windows-specific R function to focus the console window and couldn't find one. The motivation is that after loading the tcltk package, the "main" Tk window "." is presumably focused but then immediately withdrawn (hidden) so the RConsole loses its focus and you have to click on it to continue typing. Would there be any interest in including a

Calling primitive functions from C code
Does anyone have an example of calling primitive or internal functions from C code that they would share with me? I am having trouble trying to figure out how to construct the proper arguments to pass to "do_subset_dflt" Here is the prototype: SEXP do_subset_dflt(SEXP call, SEXP op, SEXP args, SEXP rho); The R_FunTab from "names.c" gives some additional information on the

patch to support custom HTTP headers in download.file() and url()
The patch below adds support for custom HTTP headers in download.file() and url(). My main motivation for this is performing basic http authentication. Some web sites do not support embedding the credentials into the URI itself, they only work if the username and password are sent in the HTTP headers. In fact specifying the username and password in the URI has been

RFC: "loop connections"
I've just implemented a generalization of R's text connections, to also support reading/writing raw binary data. There is very little new code to speak of. For input connections, I wrote code to populate the old text connection buffer from a raw vector, and provided a new raw_read() method. For output connections, I wrote a raw_write() to append to a raw vector. On input, the mode

Improved version of Rprofmem
The Rprofmem facility is currently enabled only if the configuration option --enable-memory-profiling is used. However, the overhead of having it enabled is negligible when profiling is not actually being done, and can easily be made even smaller. So I think it ought to be enabled all the time. I've attached a patch doing this, which also makes a number of other improvements to Rprofmem,

Updated rawConnection() patch
Here's an update of my rawConnection() implementation. In addition to providing a raw version of textConnection(), this fixes two existing issues with textConnection(): one is that the current textConnection() implementation carries around unprotected SEXP pointers, the other is a performance problem due to prolific copying of the output buffer as output is accumulated line by line. This new

how to get code of a .Internal() function?
Hello, I'm working with the function optim() from stats package, and inside this function is called the function .Internal(optim(....)) and I want to get the code of this function which would help me to understand why the Nelder-Mead algorithm doesn't converge with my data. I'm working under Windows XP. Could you reply to this adress because I don't belong to the mailing list

Functioning and source code location of .Primitive()
Hi all. I began examining the R source code in the last few days, for a better understanding of its structure. I read the manuals and digged deeply (maybe not enough?) into the source code, but I couldn't totally understand how .Primitive() works. Its effects, if I understand well, are quite clear to me (calling the C compiled counterpart of a "primitive" function), but where is its

corrupt PACKAGES.gz?
Is it just me, or did a corrupt PACKAGES.gz file get installed in the bin/windows/contrib/3.2 directory of CRAN mirrors recently? gzfile() complains about it and Cygwin's gzip cannot decompress it. I tried the following repos <- "https://cran.rstudio.com" v <- "3.2" pkgs.gz <- paste(sep="/", repos, "bin/windows/contrib", v,

Viewing function source
I know I should probably RTFM for this question, but could someone tell me if R supports the idea of "viewing source" on any particular function you want to use? If I want to "view source" on the rpois() function, for example, can I do somethink like: source(rpois) To see how the function is implemented? parse_Rd raises error when example section contains a quoted percent character
I was writing Rd documentation for a new package when I came across this issue. Here's the smallest example: > library(tools) > cat("\\examples{x <- '<%=rnorm(1)%>'}\n",file=file.path(tempdir(),'test.Rd')) > readLines(file.path(tempdir(),'test.Rd')) [1] "\\examples{x <- '<%=rnorm(1)%>'}" >

tempdir() documentation or real bug ?
?tempdir says By default, ?tmpdir? will be the directory given by ?tempdir()?. This will be a subdirectory of the temporary directory found by the following rule. The environment variables ?TMPDIR?, ?TMP? and ?TEMP? are checked in turn and the first found which points to a writable directory is used: if none succeeds ?/tmp? is used. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to
