R help, labeling the tick marks as I want
R help, I would like to change the labels of my tick marks on the x-axis, and I am having difficulty understanding how. Basically, my current axis labels are: 0, 50, 100, 150, 200, and I would like: 1962Q1, 1974Q2, 186Q4, 1999Q2, 2011Q4. With all respect to generality, could you please simply tell me the code to achieve this in the context of this problem? I learn programming by example and

R crashes using pdf() windows() or postscript()
Dear HelpeRs, I have a script where I save several thousands of graphics. These are then used in Latex through Sweave. Unfortunately R crashes while making these plots and Windows pops up some message that I run low on virtual memory. I tried to save the plots using pdf(), windows() and postscript() and also tried to run it with R CMD BATCH myscript.R. But after a while R slows down and crashes

Placing eps files from R into Adobe InDesign documents: specifying fontfamily
This is a solution I am posting for a problem that others may have. If you want to: 1. Place lattice graphics from R into an Adobe InDesign document, and 2. Use the export as eps function in R to maximize resolution (it is much better than exporting as a metafile or bitmap), and 3. Use long strings of text in your titles or captions or to label your axes. Then you will have problems because:

xyplot() and confidence interval polygons
Dear all, I'm trying to replicate the panel function behaviour that Deepayan and others discuss here: https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2007-April/130779.html and Oscar Lamigueiro refers to here and provides sample code for: http://www.r-bloggers.com/confidence-bands-with-lattice-and-r/ where a polygon is generated around lines on panels to display the confidence interval bounds for

tcltk freezing using MS Windows for R-2.14+
I am the maintainer of a Bioconductor package (affylmGUI) which uses tcltk. It freezes inconsistently on MS Windows, but not Mac or Unix. see details below. After considerable testing I have reduced the problem from a few thousand lines of code to 30 lines! If you paste the following lines of code into an R window: testGUI <- function(){ require(tcltk) MainWindow <-

makeCluster Stall on 32-bit Windows
Good day, I'm trying the example cl <- makeCluster(2, type = "SOCK") from the makeCluster documentation and the R command prompt never returns. I am using a 32-bit Windows 10 computer. The problem doesn't happen on another 64-bit Windows 10 computer but does happen on another 32-bit Windows 7 computer. Can anyone reproduce it? Are there any other options that can be passed to

R-devel Digest, Vol 100, Issue 28
I get the same style of path as Hadley. This is on Windows 7 Home Premium with SP1. I start R by clicking on the R-2.31.0 icon. I'd assumed that it was a change that came with R-2.13.0! Truetype and Opentype font in pdf device
Deal all, I want to know if truetype or opentype fonts are available in pdf device (i.e., pdf() or dev.copy2pdf()), and if so, how to do it? Now I can do as followings: 1. convert ttf to afm using ttf2afm, e.g.: $ ttf2afm Impact.ttf > Impact.afm 2. put the afm file in $R_HOME/library/grDevices/afm 3. register a new type1 font: pdfFonts(Impact=Type1Font("Impact",
