Updates for xlsReadWrite (1.5.3) and xlsReadWritePro (1.6.1/3)
The xlsReadWrite[Pro] packages allow to natively read/write Excel files (.xls)
on the Win 32-bit platform.
About a week ago new package versions have been released:
* xlsReadWrite 1.5.3 is available at CRAN (for R2.11/2.12) and from
www.swissr.org/download (binary builds for R2.9 - R2.12)
* xlsReadWritePro 1.6.3 is available from www.swissr.org/download
(binary builds for R2.9 - R2.12)

Fix for xlsReadWrite 1.5.2 running in R2.12.0 (32-bit) on a Win7 64-bit platform
Argh, just now I saw a scrambled start-up message when running
xlsReadWrite1.5.2 in R2.12.0 (32-bit) on a Win7 64-bit platform. If
you have this situation and use xlsReadWrite 1.5.2 (probably all
earlier versions also) you can download a quick fix, see below. I
don't know if this also affects Vista/XP 64 bit. - Probably on the
weekend I'll have time to release a proper new 1.5.3 version.

error running mvabund package
Dear All,
This is my first post, and probably (and hence apologies that) my question
is very silly!
I'm having issues with a the mvabund package
(http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/mvabund/index.html),
and would be great to get some help!
Here is the code (and files are attached):

Toolchains for x64 Windows
The MinGW-w64 project, whose toolchains we use for 64-bit Windows,
have made some changes to their conventions *and* removed all the
older binary builds from their site. The current toolchains are not
suitable for use with R 2.11.x, and I've re-packaged an older version
(which is) as
http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/Rtools/oldWin64toolchain.zip
The most critical change is to no longer have

mvabund package: errors using manyglm() and meanvar.plot()
Dear R users,
I am trying to analyze multivariate abundance data using the mvabund
package, but errors occur for several functions.
I created a mvabund object named faunadat consisting of 8 dependent
variables each containing 64 positive integer values (bact, fung, plant,
omn, pred, orib, meso, spring). There are 4 factors: harv, rep, depth and
lit.
I then created a formula:

Embedding R in other applications as a scripting language
Bryce,
embedding R varies from easy to very complex depending on what you want to do with it. If all you want is to evaluate R commands and get the result values then it is easy: you just initialize R with Rf_initialize_R() and use R_tryEval() to evaluate what you need (making sure you stay on the main thread). However, if you want to run the full event loop or even use the GUI elements then it

Calling R functions from C++ under VS2005
Hi,
I'm trying to call some of R's statistical functions within my C++
code, developed under VS2005, but I can't seem to find out how to do
it. I tried RInside and Rcpp, but they either don't work on Windows or
with VS. Is there a way to do this?
Appreciate the help.

"file name too long" error during R CMD INSTALL
Hi all,
I am attempting to install a package called phylobase from
source directory. It all seems to work until the end, at
which point it looks like the last compile command fails
because the line is too long...perhaps because the g++
command line also includes "Loading ~/.Rprofile...", like this:

Problems to compile examples of RInside
Hello,
I have some problems to migrate to R >3.0 my devel machine (R.2.15.2). So I decided to start from scratch with a brand new virtual machine.
Downloaded latest network install of debian testing, not stable (jessie/sid, SMP Debian 3.16.3-2 (2014-09-20) x86_64 GNU/Linux) installed only with ssh-server and basic utilities (no X).
Then I installed R by:

Greetings,
I have been trying to use the RInside package with C++ however I am running into an error.
I use Ubuntu Linux 10.04 (64-bit) and my R version is 2.12.2. I compiled R from source to give me a shared R library, shared BLAS (ATLAS). When I try to compile one of the examples given in the RInside package it compiles perfectly fine however when I run the program it gives me an error:

RInside, rcpp compilation problem
I have spent some hours browsing the RInside and rcpp documentation, lots of it; but ... as a programmer of C++ since 1990, on both Windows and Unix ... ( Solaris and Ubuntu, and Mandrake/Mandrivo Linux); I see a minor problem ...... Where is the rcpp.h header file?? The below code fails to compile as the RInside.h header file references the rcpp.h header file, which is not included with

Keeping up to date with R-devel
Hi,
is checking out R SVN trunk the recommended way to keep up to date with
R-devel and check packages with the latest version?
My objective is to be able to have both R and R-devel versions
installed/working and up to date.
R-devel binaries would be available as symlinks in my home directory so
that I can do:
Rdevel CMD check mypkg
Rdscript -e "some R code"
anywhere on my system.

Use of R and Rscript in configure/Makevars in packages
We have seen problems with a number of packages which use R/Rscript to
run R code in configure or makefiles.
(a) You must give a full path: there need be no version of R in the
path, and if there is it might not be the version/build of R under
which package installation is being done. So the general form is to
use
${R_HOME}/bin/R
to select the right version. And since ${R_HOME} might
