Question on trying to build R 2.11.1 on Tru64(aka OSF1) system
Hello,
I am trying to build the R-2.11.1 software for university faculty to use in
research projects on a DEC/Compaq/HP AlphaServer model GS160 16CPU/64GB memory
running Tru64Unix aka OSF1 version 5.1B-5.
Is it known whether it is possible to build the R-2.11.1 software on the
platform I am using?
In my attempts to build the R-2.11.1 software, I first used the native C
and Fortran 77/90/95

R_SHARE_DIR not defined for use in tests/Makefile running under Windows
The make variable $(R_SHARE_DIR) seems to be available for use in
tests/Makefile when running under Linux, but not Windows (R-2.6.2, R-2.6.1,
R-2.7.0 alpha 2008-04-06, under Windows XP 64 bit, built locally for 32 bit).
Is this intentional, or an oversight? Is it OK to use $(R_HOME)/share
instead (seems to work OK)?
I notice the following in /src/gnuwin32/front-ends/rcmdfn.c (from R-alpha

You may want to retry that after a make distclean, in case anything changed in the toolchain.

The sequence of steps was

Suggested modification to shell command
I'm using R 1.6.1 on Windows 95 with cygwin bash as my shell.
The 'shell' command tries to determine which shell the user prefers via the
following steps:
shell <- Sys.getenv("R_SHELL")
if (!nchar(shell))
shell <- Sys.getenv("SHELL")
if (!nchar(shell))
shell <- Sys.getenv("COMSPEC")

using dvi with latex object: directory not correctly set, maybe due to error in shQuote()
Dear friends of R,
I want to produce a pdf file with the contents of a matrix. I employ the latex command in combination with dvi, both contained in the Hmisc package. It seems to me that the function does not correctly set the directory.

Lack of consistent cross-platform behaviour of tools:::buildVignettes()
Hi,
On both Unix and Windows there is a mechanism to add variables
to the environment when R is started. I noticed that, on Unix,
this mechanism is not used when R is started normally at the
command line but only when it's started using the 'R CMD' syntax.
One problem with this is some lack of consistent cross-platform
behaviour. For example:
On Linux:
$ echo $TEXINPUTS

directory.

The default for my windows computer is C:\Users\...\Documents which I

So nearly there, but can't install rJava
Thanks Sebastian, Johannes and Dirk for your inputs, I think this can be marked [SOLVED] though I still don't understand how it started.
The answer seems to be that something sets an environment variable JAVA.LIBRARY.PATH and this wasn't set correctly. I had never directly done anything to set that so that's odd but what I had done that was causing the problem (I think) is that I had

Missing "ISO8859-1.so" on Tru64Unix

I am testing Samba 3.0.0 on a Tru64Unix v 5.1b. I compile it with gcc et

I am able to start it and I can see a share.
Until now, I have only one problem: Logs are full of messages like
