some questions about startup Rserve
I realize the communication between R and Java with Rserve in my
dissertation, but i can not run the Rserve by double click of Rserve.exe,
and also i can't realize backstage running of Rserve by technique of
Multi-thread in Java. Can anyone tell me why?
So, before i run the Java, i must run the R manually, then input
"Rserve()" or "system("Rserve")". This

Exposing native httpd server
Dear Simon and Jeroen,
thank you for your answers. I have to reiterate that I am out of my
depth in here. My knowledge of http is clicking links and not much
beyond that.
I will definitely look into `webutils` and `Rserve`.
One of the reason why I brought this issue is that I have a static site
generator that uses the pkg `servr` to serve the static site locally,
before I push it to github

Exposing native httpd server
I absolutely appreciate the desire for minimalism. On the other hand
Rserve has no dependencies other than R >= 1.5.0 (!!!), so you would in
any case be cutting your dependencies way down (`servr` has 16 recursive
dependencies of which 5 seem to be base/recommended, presumably this is
where your count of 12 came from; `Rserve` has none).

Ji??,
in a sense there are two quite different issue that you are touching upon. On one hand, your request for exposing the http server is something I was pretty much expecting. In order to judge the appetite for it I have included the support for custom handlers back then as inofficial API specifically so that if anyone cares we could work on refining it (really only Jeff and Hadley ever asked

Hello, running windows vista, R2.9. Installed the following libraries:

However, i tested my desktop and laptop and get the following error
after typing latticist(iris):

Exposing native httpd server
R has a native HTTP server that is used for serving R help pages
interactively, at least on the loopback device (127.0.0.1)
But all of the working are internal, not exposed to user and not documented.
This is quite shame since the server seems to be fully capable of
handling basic tasks,
be it serving static websites or even interactively processing queries.

Standard non-standard evaluation problem with 2.10-0
Dear List
I am getting an error when checking my analogue package with
R2.10.0-patched. The error comes when running a function within which I
use the standard non-standard evaluation method. I've distilled the
error and functions involved out into the following simple example to
illustrate the error:
## Dummy data to illustrate formula method
d <- data.frame(A = runif(10), B = runif(10),

Calling R functions from Java
Hey guys,
I got a java gui app which loads up data into a table. How can i use R
to perform statistical functions on the data in the table?
P.S My question is not particularly geared towards Java coding, but
more towards allowing R functionality within Java.

Run service failed
I''m trying to setup a service that doesn''t support any service script.
Using the following:
service { ''Rserve'':
ensure => ''running'',
start => ''/usr/bin/R CMD Rserve --gui-none'',
provider => ''base'',
}
When I run puppet agent -t -d, it returns the following:

Rserve and R to R communication
Dear All,
The "clients.txt" file of the latest Rserve package, by Simon Urbanek,
says, regarding its R client,
"(...) a simple R client, i.e. it allows you to connect to Rserve from
R itself. It is very simple and limited, because Rserve was not
primarily meant for R-to-R communication (there are better ways to do
that), but it is useful for quick interactive connection to an

Where to get support for Rserve?
?maintainer
## i.e.
maintainer("rserve")
Also, please search. A web search on simply "rserve" brought up what
appeared to be many relevant hits.
Cheers,

FW: RServe initialization problem
I want to use the R functionalities in my Java program. I found the Rserve

Where to get support for Rserve?
Hello,
I'm using Rserve with Java and although it works OK for 50 or 60 requests, eventually Rserve simply stops responding and I have to force-quit and restart Rserve. During this time the JVM is fine and Tomcat (app server) is fine, too.
The basic Java code does this:
--------------------------------------------
1. Create an R Connection
2. Execute an R Script via Rserve "eval"

I have successfully installed Rserv (http://stats.math.uni-augsburg.de/Rserve)

Chrooted R + Rserve
I successfully chrooted R running Rserve with an unprivileged user,
and thought I'd publish the process.
Attached is a jailkit.ini for use with jailkit;* and a chroot/setuid
wrapper, chwrap.c.
To set up the chroot in, for instance, /var/R; perform:
mkdir -v /var/R
jk_init -v -c jailkit.ini -j /var/R R
then create the unprivileged user `r':
useradd r

Rserve alternative?
The Rserve documentation at
http://rosuda.org/Rserve/doc.shtml#start
states that even when making multiple connections to the Rserve,
Windows won't separate workspaces physically and share environments,
which will obviously cause problems and should therefore not be used.
Are there any alternatives for the windows platform?

[Fwd: Re: Video demo of using svSocket with data.table]
Forwarded to R-Help, because I think it could interest people following
this thread. Clearly, RServe and svSocket have different goals and very
little overlap.
Best,
Philippe
