Win2K. Raw CUPS printing, driver download
Using Debian Sarge, samba, CUPS, and an HP G85 mutifunction with HPOJ to use the G85 USB connection, I've been able to get raw printing to work, and Point 'n' Print driver download to work, but not at the same time. The driver download was a chore, because of HP's proprietary install program. Had to install the driver locally to get the needed files and copy them manually to the

New verion 0.3-7 of gsubfn package
Version 0.3-7 of the gsubfn package is available on CRAN. Changes to the package are: - all known bugs have been fixed. - in gsubfn and strapply the replacement object can be a list (or a function, formula, character string or proto object, as before). In the case of a list, regexp matches are looked up in the list names and the corresponding list component used. # Example 1 - at

plain source -> encrypted destination: rsync + gpg
We want to keep a backup or a mirror of your files in a server we don't fully trust. You can have an encrypted FS on a file, and copy the complete FS to the untrusted server, but it is inefficient, and you get no granularity at all. In our case, the remote server runs amanda, and we want to use amanda's power to restore files selectively -- yet don't give away our privacy. (We

Package Building and Name Space
Hello, I just don't get this and would appreciate if someone could write a line or two: I'm trying to build this package and it stops installing after I add the following to the NAMESPACES file: >importFrom(gsubfn, strapply) The error during the package test is: Error in MyPackage::MyFunction : package 'MyPackage' has no name space and is not on the search path Calls:

Mandrake & CAPI
All, I have been trying to get CAPI4Linux working on my machine and being frank am failing miserably! I am looking for any help available, I am real newbie (so please be gentle) and choose to run Mandrake 9.2 as it appears quite friendly (or so I thought!). I have been following the guidance found at http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+How+to+connect+with+CAPI for the AVM card (actually I

Win XP Pro / Linux PDC
Hi all, I'm trying to configure Samba as a PDC. I'm running Debian Woody, hence Samba version 3.0.0final-1. We have no Windows servers anywhere on the network (yay!). I have done an smbpasswd for root, and add machine script is setup (see attached smb.conf). From the XP Pro workstation, when I fill in the domain name, log in as root, and click ok, I eventually get: "The following

R 2.10.0: Error in gsub/calloc
I'm running R 2.10.0 under Mac OS X 10.5.8; however, I don't think this is a Mac-specific problem. I have a very large (158,908 possible sentences, ca. 58 MB) plain text document d which I am trying to tokenize: t <- strapply(d, "\\w+", perl = T). I am encountering the following error: Error in base::gsub(pattern, rs, x, ...) : Calloc could not allocate (-1398215180 of

regular expressions
Dear list, I have the following text to parse (originating from readLines as some lines have unequal size), st = c("START text1 1 text2 2.3", "whatever intermediate text", "START text1 23.4 text2 3.1415") from which I'd like to extract the lines starting with "START", and group the subsequent fields in a data.frame in this format: text1 text2

Function that is giving me a headache- any help appreciated (automatic read )
note: whole function is below- I am sure I am doing something silly. when I use it like USGS(input="precipitation") it is choking on the precip.1 <- subset(DF, precipitation!="NA") b <- ddply(precip.1$precipitation, .(precip.1$gauge_name), cumsum) DF.precip <- precip.1 DF.precip$precipitation <- b$.data part, but runs fine outside of the function: days=7

New Users cannot login on W2k client (Samba 3.01 on debian linux)
Hi all, I have a problem with newly created users beeing not able to login at our Windows clients. We have debian linux with Samba 3.01 running as PDC and fileserver. I create the linux users first with useradd and then the samba users with smbpasswd. There are existing machine accounts for all the workstations and users that exist already for quite some time can login at the workstations. But
