[LLVMdev] LLVM-GCC & GV zeroinitializers, 2.5 vs 2.6.
Hello folks,
I have a small piece of C code written like this:
typedef struct {
char a;
int b;
int c;
} foo;
foo myFoo[5] = {{0}};
With llvm-gcc 2.5, I get the following IR:
%struct.foo = type { i8, i32, i32 }
@myFoo = global [5 x %struct.foo] zeroinitializer, align 32
With the current 2.6, I get this:
%0 = type { i8, [11 x i8] }

optparse::parse_args, using equals sign or not
Hi
We've found that when using parse_args(..., positional_arguments=FALSE),
it is permissible to invoke our script with either "--myfoo=bar" or
"--myfoo bar"; that is, whether or not the equals sign is present makes
no difference, and in fact both usage forms are demonstrated in the
optparse vignette.
However, we've found that when using parse_args(...,

call a function with explicitly not setting an argument
Is there a way to call a function, and explicitly set an argument to 'not
specified'? My situation is the following. I have a function which passes on
most of its arguments to another function. The second function, myfun2,
serializes all arguments and is out of my control.
myfun <- function(...){
return(myfun2(...));
}
now, the value for arguments of myfun are stored in variables.

Replying to Posts Within Same Thread
Hi,
When I reply to a post, it generally appears as a separate thread,
rather than branching off the original post.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Noting I am currently receiving a couple of the lists in digest form.

Is it possible to define a function's arguments via a wildcard in 'substitute()'?
Dear List,
just out of pure curiosity: is it possible to define a function via
'substitute()' such that the function's formal arguments are specified
by a "wildcard" that is substituted when the expression is evaluated?
Simple example:
x.args <- formals("data.frame")
x.body <- expression(
out <- myArg + 100,
return(out)
)
expr <-

[LLVMdev] LLVM-GCC & GV zeroinitializers, 2.5 vs 2.6.
Hello Julien,
I think the reason for the change was because there is processor context information stored in the type in 2.6. The reason it's there is to support multicore JIT architecture.

Length of a string
Hi,
Suppose I have created something like this in R:
foo <- "myfoo"
and I want to find out the number of character in foo (in other words, R
should return 5 since "myfoo" has 5 charactors.
How can I do it? I tried:
length(foo)
but it returned 1.
Cheers,
Kevin

The KJV
Hey all,
Does anyone know if there are any R packages with a copy of the KJV?
I'm guessing the answer is no...
So the next question, and the more important one is:
Does anyone think it would be useful (e.g. for text-mining purposes)?
I know almost nothing about theology,
so I'm not sure what kind of questions theologists might have (that R
could answer).
An alternative, that would

Task View for Marketing
Hi
I was wondering if a task view for marketing would be a good idea????
I realise that it would have some overlap with other task views.
Social science, cluster and multivariate are the most obvious ones.
There seem to be a lot of packages (quite in your face, if I may say
so) for finance and econometrics (however this is a good thing,
mostly...). However, marketing focused packages seem to be

Emacs vs Eclipse vs Rcmdr
Hi everyone,
I could have posted this on R-devel or the GUI list, however don't
feel it's that serious.
Hence, decided R-help would be the most appropriate.
I'm not so much interested in which is the best user interface for R.
Rather which is the best ***platform*** for developing ***new*** user
interfaces for R.
Noting I'm using the term user interface is a very general sense.

"couldn't find function" error message in R 2.1.1
Dear R-help,
I have a home-made package works perfectly under R 1.9.1. Now I'm trying to
port it to R > 2.0. So I rebuild the package under R 2.1.1. It installs and
loads OK. But when I try to call some functions "myfoo" in this package, it
returns error message: "Couldn't find function myfoo". I checked all
available manuals, and didn't find any specific

Sweave Feature Requests and Questions
Hi everyone,
I would like to request the following features for Sweave:
1. The keep.source option, to respect empty lines in input.
2. The prefix.string option, to apply to all generated files, e.g. no
Rplots.pdf.
3. That Sweave, doesn't change the graphics settings for the entire
Latex Document. By default including a pdf image, should use it's
actual size, rather than making it a fixed

UML Class and Object Diagrams in R
Hi all
Does anyone know if there are any R packages available for creating
UML class and object diagrams in R (suitable for use with Latex)?
I'm considering developing such a system...
Note, I'm aware there are Latex packages (so no one needs to state the obvious).
On a side issue I'm thinking about (mostly) abandoning the class
system I mentioned earlier. Thank you to Martin

FW: quota-status service
Aki: Over the last three days, I've watched many other questions being asked and answered. Were they also impolite to ask?
Peter: What exactly was impolite about identifying missing information and listing the specific details that I'm looking for?
Aki & Peter: Do either of you know the answers to at least some of my questions?

If you need fast and timely support you can contact OX sales for an support agreement . It is somewhat impolite to except such from a public mailing list over weekend.

S4 class slot type S4 class
All,
I am considering creating an S4 class whose slots (2) are both S4 classes. ?Since an S4 slot can be an S3 class I figure this can be done. ?However, the correct syntax of which I am unsure. ?Reviewing the docs I have come to the following conclusion:
SetClass('myfoo',
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? slots = (foo1, foo2))
Without a type I believe each slot is .Data. ?A get method on the above

Download R
I use Fedora 10.
I need to update my computer's R version.
I apologise if this has come up before.
The Debian and Ubuntu download links appear reasonably up to date.
The Suse download links appear almost up to date.
Unfortunately, the Fedora download links are from 2008/2009.

Should the Fedora links be removed or updated?
