strange crashes caused by 'cairoDevice' and 'tcltk' dialogues
Dear developers I get some strange crashes when 'cairoDevice' and 'tcltk' are both loaded in the same R vanilla session. When executing the following in that order require(relimp) require(cairoDevice) showData (iris) I get a crash with the following message (see R-relimp-cairoDevice.txt): The program 'R' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in

'tcltk' freezes related to event-loops (PR#14188)
This report is related to the bug `'tcltk' crashes related to event-loops' PR#14187 [1]. The difference to that bug is an inversion of the command sequence. [1] http://bugs.r-project.org/cgi-bin/R/incoming?id=14187;user=guest With the following sequence I get sporadic freezes of tcltk. require(cairoDevice) require(tcltk) Unlike for the previous bug, I am unable to identify a simple

disappearing dialog boxes when using tcltk
Dear all, I'm trying to use tcltk to build a small user-interface and couter the problem: It seems that sometimes the dialog box will be minimized automatically though I want it to be on top of the screen all the time. For example, when runing the following code, if you type in "a1", "a2", "a3", etc when being asked for an integer, the program is supposed to

options(width=100) ignored on start-up: bug or feature?
Dear developers I've tried this a couple of days ago on r-help, unfortunately with no feedback. Could you please take a look and confirm whether it's a bug, feature, or bad eye-sight when reading Help: Is it normal that R ignores options("width"=100) at start-up? Although liviu at debian-liv:~$ cat /usr/lib/R/etc/Rprofile.site | grep width options(width = 100) , R will

Retrieving data from a tcl /tk function
Hello, I am sorry if this is an answered question, but I did my homework for a long while and couldn't figure out a way to retrieve data entry from a model dialog. In one of the examples compiled by James Wettenhall: odalDialog <- function(title, question, entryInit, entryWidth = 20, returnValOnCancel = "ID_CANCEL") { dlg <- tktoplevel() tkwm.deiconify(dlg)

sessionInfo() fails to correctly detect locale settings
Dear R devels Yesterday I was slightly surprised to notice that R incorrectly detected some of the locale settings. I am not sure whether this is important, but I preferred to drop a message. In the R output below, some entries that should have been "en_GB.UTF-8" are presented as "C". Regards Liviu > sessionInfo() R version 2.9.1 (2009-06-26) x86_64-pc-linux-gnu locale:

trouble with html() in Hmisc
Dear all On my system html() conversion of a `latex()' object fails. Follows a dummy example: > require(Hmisc) > data(Angell) > .object <- cor(Angell[,1:2], use="complete.obs") > tmp <- latex(.object, cdec=c(2,2), title="") > class(tmp) [1] "latex" > html(tmp) /tmp/RtmprfPwzw/file7e72f7a7.tex:9: Warning: Command not found: \tabularnewline

ggobi and plug-ins issues
Dear all I have issues with loading ggobi plug-ins in my Debian testing. In a R --vanilla session I get a lot of error messages about being unable to load the plug-ins (see at the end). I understand that this issue has been previously addressed [1][2], and the solution implemented in Debian: liviu at debian-liv:~$ locate /usr/lib/ggobi/plugins /usr/lib/ggobi/plugins

RQDA/RGtk2 Installation Problem
Greetings, I have been having a problem installing RQDA on my Mac (OS 10.13.2). I followed the installation process on the RQDA page ( http://rqda.r-forge.r-project.org/), but I keep getting an error message saying that I am missing pkg-config and GTK. I reinstalled XQuartz and GTK+ 2.24.17 multiple times (and reinstalled R version 3.4.4), but kept receiving the same error message. I also tried

equivalent to "require" for imports? (cairoDevice)
Hi R-devel I use the packages RGtk2 and cairoDevice. The cairoDevice package has a few stand-alone functions, plus "asCairoDevice" which depends on RGtk2 and calls require(RGtk2). So cairoDevice lists RGtk2 under "Suggests" in the DESCRIPTION file. It can not Import RGtk2 because that would force all users to install RGtk2. The upshot of this is, if you *import* the RGtk2

tcl/tk bind destroy event
Hello! I want to create a messagebox whenever the user wants to destroy the window (e.g. <Alt-F4> or the 'x' in the right top corner) and ask if a modified file should be saved or not. If 'cancel' is chosen then nothing should happen and the windows still should be existing. This doesn't work. When I press cancel the window will be destroyed although. I also

RGtk2 2.10.x series available
The new 2.10.x series of the RGtk2 package has recently become available on CRAN. RGtk2 is a package for creating graphical user interfaces (GUI's) in R and is similar in purpose to the tcltk package. RGtk2 binds to and enables the extension of the GTK+ user interface library, as well as several other libraries that are integrated with GTK+. The gWidgetsRGtk2 package provides an RGtk2

Dropdown boxes in tcltk and R
Hello, I'm very much a newbie in R and more so in tcltk so apologies if this question is stupid. Basically I am trying to use the combobox example found here: http://bioinf.wehi.edu.au/~wettenhall/RTclTkExamples/DropDown.html . What I want to do is in that example get fruitChoice as a variable in R in general. When I run that code, however, and the ask for fruitChoice it says

Odd tcltk and Rattle interference on MS/Windows
Hi Graham, Your guess is right. The event loop stuff is handled differently on Windows than on Unix-like OSes. There is a hook, called tcl_do that is hard-coded into the R Windows GUI. It is called whenever the console is idle. RGtk2 is able to hook into that to process GTK+ events. The problem is that the two packages replace each other's handler. So in this case tcltk is blocking GTK+ from

Bug when importing datas with tcltk window (PR#13191)
Full_Name: PREUSS Bastien Version: R version 2.6.2 (2008-02-08) OS: mingw32 Submission from: (NULL) (193.51.249.166) Hello, I wrote a small function using tcltk to import my datasets. When I use it, both the tcltk and the R windows closed themselves. I don't understand why. What is surprising is that it doesn?t happen each time. Most of the time I can't finish the importation of my 3

cairoDevice 1.2 on CRAN
The cairoDevice package has recently been released on CRAN. cairoDevice is an R graphics device based on the cairo (http://www.cairographics.org) vector graphics library. It is distinguished from many other devices in its ability to render high quality anti-aliased graphics. It is available on all three major platforms (Windows, Mac, and Linux) and requires the GTK+ 2.8.0 library and its
