Why Rprofile.site is not built with manual installation of R devel in linux?
Hi all,
I downloaded R-devel as explicited in https://developer.r-project.org/SVNtips.html
Then, I tried to install it through instructions in https://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/r-devel/R-admin.html#Installation
(taking into account also https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2016-May/072777.html)
So:
export REPOS=https://svn.r-project.org/R
export RTOP=~ #adjust as necessary
cd $RTOP
svn co

[R] Why Rprofile.site is not built with manual installation of R devel in linux?
No clue. Tip: R-devel is the mailing list for anything related to development versions of R. Off-topic here.

Problem with ldpaths in Ubuntu 13.04
Hello!
I'm trying to install R-3.0.1 on an Ubuntu machine (64 bit, version 13.04). I have uninstalled and installed several times, but to no avail.
I keep getting errors about missing ldpaths, and installing packages does not work at all.
Here is the information:
erin@erin-Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y480:~$ sudo apt-get install r-base

ubuntu installation: can't find ldpaths
I'm trying to install R under Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy; Linux
2.6.22-15-generic x86_64). Following the instructions at
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/README, I installed r-base,
r-base-core, and r-base-dev without any problems. When I open R,
however, I get the message "Can't open /usr/lib64/R/etc/ldpaths".
That file is linked to /etc/R/ldpaths, which doesn't exist

R and Java 10 ➜ rJava not able to build
Hi Jeff!!
I really don?t know if running R CMD javareconf with sudo has posed a problem here, now or in the past. What I know is sometimes it?s the only way to really config it, if I don?t run with sudo, in the end it asks me if I want to overwrite the configuration from root
override rw-r--r-- root/admin for
/usr/local/Cellar/r/3.4.4/lib/R/etc/Makeconf? (y/n [n]) y
override rw-r--r--

R 3.4 has broken C++11 support

here you go, it?s pretty much the simplest package possible that needs C++11:

problem with ldpaths
I've just installed r-base (several times!) using the instructions at
http://cran.us.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/
and for some reason it is not creating a /etc/R/ldpaths file.
I've tried a few times, tried purging, and removing everything in
/etc/R and
/usr/lib/R
as suggested by Dirk,
and reinstalling but still get
$ R

Fwd: makeconf issue on R-devel 2006-03-12 r37524
I sent the message below to r-sig-mac yesterday, but having no reply
I decided to explore a bit myself and found that editing:
/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/2.3/Resources/share/make/
shlib.mk
yzzy: diff shlib.mk shlib.mk~
3c3
< include $(R_HOME)/etc/Makeconf
---
> include $(R_HOME)/etc${R_ARCH}/Makeconf
restored the functionality of R CMD INSTALL.
Is this a known issue?

Renviron.in error when compiling R 2.9.1 under Debian.
Dear all,
I'm trying to compile R 2.9.1 on my home directory under debian,
and as I need to play with RPy, I tryed compile R using:
./configure --enable-R-shlib
But, during the compilation, I get the error below:

R 3.4 has broken C++11 support
Hi Philipp,
Fellow Archlinux user here. I think the problem is with the r-devel
PKGBUILD file, rather than anything wrong in R itself. The PKGBUILD
file does this:
ln -s /etc/R/${i} ${i}
when it should do
ln -s /etc/R-devel/${i} ${i}
You can fix your installed version with
cd /opt/r-devel/lib/R/etc/
sudo rm ./*
sudo ln -s /etc/R-devel/javaconf
sudo ln -s /etc/R-devel/ldpaths
sudo ln -s

How do I put ldpaths in a specific place?
Hi Everybody,
I made R (v. 2.11.1) from source with the following config option:
./configure --prefix=/mnt/ami-centos5.5-64bit-base \
--exec-prefix=/mnt/ami-centos5.5-64bit-base \
--with-tcltk
All seemed to go well, but when I tested it with:
/usr/sbin/chroot /mnt/ami-centos5.5-64bit-base R
It told me:
/bin/R: line 217:

R and Java 10 ➜ rJava not able to build
I am not a Mac user, but I do use Linux and I would recommend not running R with sudo unless you are an admin ninja. That defensive practice would render the answer to your question moot.
It is possible that your problem may have started with inappropriate use of sudo in configuring java, but configuring Java is not on-topic here.

Environment variable PATH in Windows
Colleagues,
I am trying to understand how R (2.12.1) obtains the PATH environment variable in Windows (7 or Vista). Startup {base} directs one to:
"R_ENVIRON" -- which equals "" in my systems
R_HOME/etc/Renviron.site -- which does not exist
Next, it directs to:
R_HOME/etc/Rprofile.site -- which also does not exist (the expected behavior in a "factory-fresh"

R and Java 10 ➜ rJava not able to build
Hi!
I?m on macOS 10.13.3 and just installed the new Java 10 using Homebrew Cask. I also have installed R with Homebrew. Everything seems to work fine, however I just get different outputs if I run sudo R CMD javareconf or R CMD javareconf. With sudo I get pointed to Java 9 and without sudo I get pointed to Java 10. I really don?t know why.
Without sudo:
$ R CMD javareconf

glitch in building R package
I follow Alan Lenarcic's very helpful tutorial on building R package for Windows (XP), which could be found in www.stat.columbia.edu/~gelman/stuff_for_blog/AlanRPackageTutorial.pdf<http://www.stat.columbia.edu/~gelman/stuff_for_blog/AlanRPackageTutorial.pdf>. The package involves a small dll compiled from some very simple C++ codes.
The build process seemed to work smoothly, until i

Yes. Alternatively, as he uses Debian, there's the
R-SIG-Debian mailing list, too.
--> I'm CC'ing both R-devel and R-SIG-Debian instead
