MLE optimization
Folks, I'm kind of newbie in R, but with some background in Matlab and VBA programming. Last month I was implementing a Maximum Likelihood Estimation in Matlab, but the algorithms didn't converge. So my academic advisor suggested using R. My problem is: estimate a mean reverting jump diffusion parameters. I've succeeded in deriving the likelihood function (which looks like a gaussian

How to generate UML diagrams from existing ruby code?
Hi, thanks for reading. Till now, I''ve used railroad to visualize my models. But as far as I can see, there''s no possibility to add information about the model class methods. Methods are only added to a diagram, if you visualize your controllers. Is there a way to change this behavior? I''ve looked out for something else and found ''ruby-uml'', seems to

Designing An Application (UML, Class Diagrams)
Hi Is there any freeware anybody would recommend for showing database models and how they relate to each other? I''m picking up an app another developer left in a mess and I''m trying to sort it out. Diagrams would be a great help. Suggestions? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. To post to this

data frame select max group by like function
Hi, I have a data frame with 3 columns: ID, year and score. How can I select for each unique ID, the year that has the max score? For example, for data frame ID, year, score tom, 1995, 88 rick, 1994, 90 mary, 2000, 97 tom, 1998, 60 mary, 1998,100 I shall have ID, year, score tom, 1995, 88 rick, 1994, 90 mary, 1998,100 Thanks, Richard [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

error in trmesh (alphahull package)
Hello R community, I have cross-posted with r-sig-geo as this issue could fall under either interest group I believe. I just came accross the alphahull package and am very pleased I may not need to use CGAL anymore for this purpose. However, I am having a problem computing alpha shapes with my point data, and it seems to have to do with the spatial configuration of my points (which form

Long to wide format without time variable
Hi all, I am trying to convert a data set of physician death codings (each individual's cause of death is coded by multiple physicians) from long to wide format, but the "reshape" function doesn't seem to work because it requires a "time" variable to identify the sequence among the repeated observations within individuals. My data set has no order, and different

Sorting data from one column with strings
Hello, I have tried to find this out some other way, but unsuccessful I have to try this list. I assume this should be quite simple. I have a dataset with 4 columns, "Sample_no", "Species", "Nitrogen", "Carbon" in csv format. In the species column I have many different species with varying number of obs per species Eg "Sample_no"

copy the columns based on the code
Hello, I have two different dataset, and wanted to join the two. For example I have a table of codes of cities, and other with with the codes of travels, [source for the destine]. what he wanted was to have a new data.frame with all the information city<-data.frame(city="Barcelona",cod=1) city<-rbind(city,data.frame(city="Madrid",cod=2))

Standardize environment between specs containing class defs
I have some specs that involve the use of eval and class definitions to test code generation. I want to always start with a clean slate so none of my tests fail or succeed incorrectly due to artifacts left over from previous specs. Example of my situation Spec 1 defines class Fish class Cod < Fish Spec 2 defines class Animal class Cod < Animal In this situation the

Separating boot results
Good Morning, I'm having what I hope to be a simple problem. I am generating bootstrap confidence intervals using package (boot) - which works perfectly. The issue I am having is getting the results into a format which I can write out to a database. To be clear I am having no problems generating the results, I just need to convert the format of the results such that I can store the results in

Faster union of polygons?
Dear R-helpers, thanks for yesterday's speeding-up tip. Here is my next query: I have lots of polygons (not necessarily convex ones, and they never have holes) given by x,y coordinates. I want to get the polygon that is the union of these polygons. This is my current method, but I am hoping there is a faster method (up to thousands of polygons, each with ca. 40 xy points). Example:

Merge and join data
Hi, I'm looking to combine two data frames. Several of the columns are in common while the others need to be summed up. The apply functions and the merge functions don't seem to be working. I've included a basic example of what I'm trying to do below. Thanks! Sean data.frame1<-as.data.frame(matrix(c('winter','dredge','515',100,150),1,5))

[LLVMdev] [cfe-dev] Do you use UML utility programs?
Hi Sean Silva, Maybe I am the only one who is trying to use UML. In my team, I am also the only one who draws UML diagrams. I expected there be someone who use UML like me. But it's maybe not as your opinion. Maybe doxygen is enough for majority of people. Thanks for your reply. Sincerely Journeyer J. GAM and Poisson distribution
Hi -I'm running a GAM with 7 explanatory variables with a Poisson error structure. All of the variables are continuous so I'm getting error messages in R. cod.fall.full.gam.model<-gam(Kept.CPUE~s(HOUR)+s(LAT_dec)+s(LONG_dec)+s(meantemp_C)+s(meandepth_fa)+s(change_depth)+s(seds), data=cod.fall.version2,family=poisson) In dpois(y, mu, log = TRUE) ... : non-integer x = 5.325517

[LLVMdev] [cfe-dev] Do you use UML utility programs?
UML diagrams can be really helpful for explaining how a piece of code works (such as the diagrams in your klang project on github). The main reason I don't draw them is that I haven't found convenient tools to use which integrate well with my workflow. Doxygen produces class diagrams, but I would really like to have something which produces sequence diagrams (such as

bar plot with non-zero starting level
Hi, I want to plot grouped bars to compare 95% confidence interval estimates from two models. Each bar represents a 95% confidence interval estimate of a coefficient from one of the two models. Each group represents confidence interval estimates of the same coefficient from the two models. I think such a bar plot will nicely present whether 95% confidence interval estimates of the same

R, geochemistry, ternary diagrams
I'm in e-mail contact with a geochemist who maintains a well regarded geochemistry web site. He's drawing diagrams either with a Turbo Pascal program running in a DOS window or with Excel. I'm trying to persuade him that R would be a better choice. Something he's particularly keen on is ternary diagrams. I think he is talking about ternary phase diagrams, and if so, it looks as

SSH Sequence diagrams
Hello, Dear SSH developers. I'm currently studying Business Information Technologies at the University of Applied Sciences in Oulu, Finland. I'm about to start my own online computer security related magazine. I would like to make an article about the helpful ssh protocol for security professionals. I have made sequence diagrams on how the SSH 2.0 protocol works, however i'm not sure

R2HTML Report number format, or Better Way?
Here I am again with question I'll feel foolish for asking, when I see the answer. I'm trying to produce a report and here's where I get stuck: How do I get R2HTML to produce the same number format? Particularly remove the decimal places for Par and Sal. Are there better methods to produce this type of report? Thanks, L.A. R version 2.10.0 XP
