'tcltk' freezes related to event-loops (PR#14188)
This report is related to the bug `'tcltk' crashes related to
event-loops' PR#14187 [1]. The difference to that bug is an inversion
of the command sequence.

With the following sequence I get sporadic freezes of tcltk.
require(cairoDevice)
require(tcltk)
Unlike for the previous bug, I am unable to identify a simple

Dear developers
I've tried this a couple of days ago on r-help, unfortunately with no
feedback. Could you please take a look and confirm whether it's a bug,
feature, or bad eye-sight when reading Help:
Is it normal that R ignores options("width"=100) at start-up? Although

plm issues: error for "within" or "random", but not for "pooling"
Dear all
I am working on unbalanced panel data and I can readily fit a
"pooling" model using plm(), but not a "within" or "random" model.
Reproducing the examples in vignette("plm") and in the AER package I
encountered no such issues.

Update problem? Rcmdr disappears, won't re-open
WinXP, R 2.10.1
I just updated R, and now have trouble. Perhaps it was the method I used to
keep all the packages.
I copied all the new packages from 2.10.1 back into the 2.10.0 folder, then
copied them and all the others I've previously added from the 2.10.0 folder
and pasted them back into 2.10.1's appropriate folder.
Is this the source of my troubles?
I am trying unsuccessfully to

Never exporting .__global__ and .__suppressForeign__?
Hello,
(Dear Richard, I hope you don't mind being Cc:'d on this thread in
R-devel. This is one of the ways we can prevent similar problems from
happening in the future.)
Sometimes, package authors who use both exportPattern('.') and
utils::globalVariables(...) get confusing WARNINGs about undocumented
exports:

lmer and estimable
Hi everyone,
I'm using lmer and estimable (from packages lme4 and gmodels respectively) and have the disconcerting happening that when I run exactly the same code, I get different results! In checking this out by running the code 50x, it seems to be that answers may be randomly deviating around those which I get from another stats package (GenStat, using the linear mixed models functionality

error using pvcm() on unbalanced panel data
Dear all
I am trying to fit Variable Coefficients Models on Unbalanced Panel
Data. I managed to fit such models on balanced panel data (the example
from the "plm" vignette), but I failed to do so on my real, unbalanced
panel data.
I can reproduce the error on a modified example from the vignette:

Rcmdr plugins produce error
I recently updated all my plugins, and for the fun of it, I added ALL the Rcmdr Plugins to my collection to see what functionality might exist. I started Rcmdr and loaded ALL the available Plugins from to the Rcdmdr Tools menu.
To my suprise Rcmdr produced a number of warnings and finally an error. The error suggests that some of the extensions are incompatable with each other because of menu

r-package-devel is probably a better place to post this, especially if
you do not get a satisfactory reply here. This list is about R
programming, as you presumably know; your query is not.

seen within R (View(wa2)) and what was produced in SPSS. Examining

Writing Rcmdr Plugins
Dear all,
I am trying to write a plugin for the RCommander and having troubles
understanding how to actually do that. I have read Mr. Fox's tutorial
about writing Rcmdr plugins and though.... it seems to me that some
steps are missing. I would like to know, whether there are some
Commands which generate a plugin package out of a given library. Or do
we just have to attach the .First.lib
