postscript failure manifests in plot.TukeyHSD
Hello R Developers, Dear R-developers, I ran some standard tests with currently (today morning) compiled R release candidate in Linux R 2.12.1 RC (2010-12-13 r53843). Some of these tests used plot.TukeyHSD function. This worked OK on the screen (X11 device), but PostScript file could not be rendered. The following example had the problem with me: postscript(file="tukeyplot.ps")

Extreme value distributions (Long.)
This may not actually be an R/Splus problem, but it started off that way ..... ===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+=== Executive summary: ================== Simulations involving extreme value distributions seem to ``work'' when the underlying distribution is exponential(1) or exponential(2) == chi-squared_2, but NOT when the underlying distribution is

basic proto question
Dear list, I made the following example of a proto object that contains some data and a spline interpolation. I don't understand why test$predict() fails with this error message: Error: evaluation nested too deeply: infinite recursion / options(expressions=)? Best regards, baptiste test <- proto(source = data.frame(x=1:10, y=rnorm(10)), raw = function(.){

line endings in lattice plots: square vs. round
I would like to use llines() to draw lines with square endings in lattice plots. But the default behavior seems to be to draw lines with round endings. How can I change this? I'm looking for a parameter like par('lend') or get.gpar('lineend'), but trellis.par.get() doesn't seem to have anything analogous. I searched the archives but saw nothing on this. I'm

lattice grob
Dear list, I'm trying to arrange various grid objects on a page using a frameGrob. It works fine with basic grobs (textGrob, gTree, etc.), and also with ggplot2 objects using the ggplotGrob() function. I am however stuck with lattice. As far as I understand, lattice produces a list of class trellis, which is eventually displayed using the plot.trellis method. I am not sure if/how one can

postscript and lty
To the plot experts: when creating a plot containing different lines, each with a special line type, it may happen that the result of 'postscript()' is not readable by ghostview (which may not be an R error, thus not bug report ;-). This is the case when mixing lty as 0:6 and character or even when using lty as character only. Example: postscript("test.ps") plot(1:10,

Postscript Legends (or not)
I discovered a little problem when using the Windows NT release of R 1.0.1, and it's still there in R 1.1.0. The boiled down version is this: I want to draw the following plot and put it into a Postscript file: x <- c(1,2,3,4); y1 <- c(1,2,3,4); y2 <- c(2,2,2,2) Fred <- c(1,2) postscript(file="d:/Bob/Papers/IFM/try2.ps") plot(x,y1, type="l")

type = 'b' with Grid
Dear all, I feel like I've been reinventing the wheel with this code (implementing type = 'b' for Grid graphics), http://econum.umh.ac.be/rwiki/doku.php?id=tips:graphics-grid:linesandpointsgrob Has anyone here attempted this with success before? I found suggestions of overlapping large white points to mask the lines but it's not ideal. I welcome any comments on the code.

Postscript query: plotting long vectors
Hi, I have a query about the maximum length of vector that can be plotted in one go in a postscript driver. Try the following code (in 1.7.0; version details below): t <- seq(from=0, to=4*pi, length=200000) y <- sin(t) postscript(file="o.ps") plot(t, y, type="l") dev.off() If I view the postscript file o.ps in "gv", it takes many seconds before eventually

write.fortran
Dear all, I'm trying to write tabular data to a text file, these data will be the input of a Fortran program. The format needs to be "(i7,2x,7(e15.7,2x))". I have not been able to find a clean way of producing this output with write.table. I searched for a "write.fortran" function similar to read.fortran() in package utils but I couldn't find any. Below is a small

lineplot in ggplot2 with different colour and linetype
Hi list, I would like to use ggplot2 in creating a line plot with 4 lines (groups), 2 of which I want in colour and the remaining two as dotted lines. ### R code ### library(ggplot2) ### create data #### vals <- rnorm(400) div<- c(rep("A",100),rep("B",100),rep("C",100),rep("D",100)) n<- rep(1:100,4) df<- data.frame(div=

set linetype with plotCI
Dear R-list, I'm iterating several calls to plotCI [gplots], like so: plotCI( x = xvals.f[sorted], y = yvals.f[sorted], xlim = c(xmin, xmax), ylim = c(ymin, ymax), pch = plot_symbols[graph_idx], type = "b", lty = plot_linetypes[1], col = plot_colors[graph_idx], barcol = plot_colors[graph_idx], uiw = NA, xlab = "", ylab = "", add =

mixing different modes of lty line type specification in legend() ?
Hi List, is sth. like the following possible: legend(x,y,c("A","B","C"), lty=list(1,"42","11")) ? Or: is there a possibility to define a solid line using the "string" mode for lty? ggplot2: mixing colour and linetype in geom_line
Hi all, I try to represent a multiple curve graphic where the x-axis is the temperature and the different y-axes are the different X (X22,X43,X44...) some X corresponds to the same molecule (22 and 44 are for CO2 for instance) so I use the same colour for them. I wanna mix the linetype with the colour to be able to visually see the difference between X43 and X45 The best I have done up to now

R-alpha: line types
Responding to my own post, after some hacking: To fix the behavior of the following test code (the rect()s inherit the lty set by the previous abline())-- x _ (1:100)/10 plot(x,sin(x)) abline(h=0,lty=2,col="red") rect(1,0,2,0.5) abline(v=2) rect(3,0,4,0.5) Here are some diffs (now all I have to do is wade through and get lwd working properly ...) *** devX11.c.orig Tue Jul 29

Use of lwd = 0, lty = 2 in segments. (PR#230)
This may not be considered a bug but it is an incompatibility with S. There was a convention in S that the graphics parameter setting lwd = 0 is supposed to use the minimum possible line width on the device. It is not clear what that means on modern graphics devices but there is still code (like mine) that assumes something sensible happens with lwd = 0 It seems that R's postscript
