Graphics Device API change
Hi r72261 in r-devel has modified the graphics device API and bumped R_GE_version in GraphicsEngine.h (to satisfy PR 16951). This means that ... (i) third-party graphics device packages need to be reinstalled. (ii) third-party graphics device packages will ideally need a new version for r-devel. (iii) any packages that make use of getGraphicsEvent() should test against r-devel (and let me

"Too many raster images" in devPS.c
Hi, I am finding the recently added [1] functionality of embedding raster images into plots on R devices very useful! Thanks to Paul Murrell and others for providing that. I noted that in https://svn.r-project.org/R/trunk/src/library/grDevices/src/devPS.c a macro is defined: #define MAX_RASTERS 64, and consequently, I get Error in grid.Call.graphics("L_raster", x$raster, x$x, x$y,

Insert raster image into an R graphic
Dear useRs: Is there a way to include a raster image (e.g., .gif, .jpg, .bmp) representing a company logo, a school logo, etc. into an R graphic? For example, it would be nice to be able to include the logo of the school into the charts that a student produces for her dissertation. Similarly, while working on a competitive analysis, it would be nice to be able to replace the names of the

Raster images and saving with original pixel dimensions in tiff, jpeg, or png perferablly.
Hello R-Help, I want to be able to read in a raster image, plot it with grid.raster or rasterImage and save the image with one pixel per a pixel element from my array. Saved preferably in a common image format. The real goal of my question is to eventually read in images with text on them, manipulate them with my controlled functions, save them without changing the image dimensions, and perform

Patch: fix segfault from empty raster
Hi, A colleague recently came across an R crash, which I can boil down to the following, running under Rgui on Windows 7: library(ggplot2) ggplot(data.frame(x=1, y=1, z=4.7), aes(x, y, z=z)) + stat_summary2d() This reliably causes a segmentation fault. sessionInfo() below. What's happening is that (for reasons which I'll discuss with the ggplot2 developers) the 'colorbar'

PDFs and SVGs containing rasterGrobs don't display correctly in some other software
I've just been trying to post-process some R-created heatmaps using Inkscape, but I can't get them to display correctly in that software. To reproduce: library(grid) r <- as.raster(matrix(runif(25), 5, 5)) pdf("test.pdf") grid.newpage() grid.raster(r, interpolate = FALSE) dev.off() This figure should be a five by five block of grey squares. This is what I see in the R GUI

Passing arguments between S4 methods fails within a function:bug? example with raster package.
Dear all, This problem came up initially while debugging a function, but it seems to be a more general problem of R. I hope I'm wrong, but I can't find another explanation. Let me illustrate with the raster package. For an object "RasterLayer" (which inherits from Raster), there is a method xyValues defined with the signature

Netcdf and Raster Package Questions, Need .asc File for GIS
Hello R-Group, I am new working with netcdf files and the raster package in R.I am trying to read in a netcdf file using the package "ncdf".I am able to get the lat, lon and parameter I need and can plot using fill.contour.Ultimately, I am trying to create a .asc file to reafd into GIS.I am using the package "raster" to read the parameter. When I read in with

How to alpha entire plot?
I have two chromatograms I want plotted on the same axes. I would like the plots to be transparent, so the first chart is not obscured. I have tried adjustcolor(..., alpha.f=0.3), the problem is that my chromatogram is so dense with datapoints that they overlap and the entire graph just ends up a solid color. The second histogram still obscures the first. Consider this example: col1 <-

strange interaction between rasterImage and Grid graphics
Dear all, This may be specific to Mac, I haven't had a chance to test another platform. Consider this, plot(1,1,t="n") rasterImage(matrix(1),1,1,1,1) library(grid) grid.rect(gp=gpar(fill="grey")) The grid.rect covers the full device window as expected. However, when I resize the window ever so slightly (interactive device) the rectGrob is suddenly clipped to the previous

Inconsistencies in device_Raster when axes are reflected
I noticed some undocumented and inconsistent behavior in device_Raster when a plot is produced with reflected axes such as: image(volcano, xlim = c(1,0), useRaster = TRUE) image(volcano, ylim = c(1,0), useRaster = TRUE) The `pdf` device will perform horizontal and vertical reflections, while `quartz` will ignore the transformations when plotting to the screen, but when plotting to a

grid.image(), pckg grid
While I am very happy with and awed by the grid package and its basic plotting primitives such as grid.points, grid.lines, etc, I was wondering whether the equivalent of a grid.image() function exists ? Any pointer would be helpful. Thanks ! Markus [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

need for speed on grid.rect
When I use grid.rect to print a multi-coloured grid, it is incredibly slow compared to a single colour grid, or even a two colour grid. I've set out some simplified examples below. This is something I run literally thousands of times a day, so I would greatly appreciate any hints on how I might improve the speed??? library(grid) pushViewport(viewport( width = unit(100,

rasterImage and coordinate conversion
Hi, I have a plot and I would like to overlay a PNG image over it. I'm using the rasterImage function to do this, but the problem I'm facing is working out the coordinates of the upper right corner of the final image in user coordinates. That is I can place the image so the lower left is located at the bottom of the y-axis and the left end of the x-axis. Since my image is say 100px x

Extracting xy from raster based on raster value
I have a raster (which I called glc), which I read into R as a raster with "raster.create.from.file" from the raster package (R-forge). Values in glc range between 1 and 27 (whole numbers only). I'd like to extract all cells with a value of 1 to create a new raster with only the cells that have a value of 1, or to extract the xy values of all raster cells with a value of 1. Could you

str() on raster objects fails for certain dimensions
Hi, str() on raster objects fails for certain dimensions. For example: > str(as.raster(0, nrow=1, ncol=100)) 'raster' chr [1, 1:100] "#000000" "#000000" "#000000" "#000000" ... > str(as.raster(0, nrow=1, ncol=101)) Error in `[.raster`(object, seq_len(max.len)) : subscript out of bounds This seems to do with how str() and

par(mfrow) for heatmap plots
Hi, I was trying to use par(mfrow) to put 4 heatmaps on a single page. However, I get one plot per page and not one page with 4 plots. What should I modify? Test code is given below: test = matrix(rnorm(60), 20, 3) pdf(file='test.pdf',width=10,height=8) par(mfrow=c(2,2)) heatmap(test) heatmap(test) heatmap(test) heatmap(test) dev.off() thanks! Raster manipulation in R
Hello everyone in the forum For introducing myself I would say I have a basic knowledge of R. Now I am intended to implement a flood algorithm using R. I have some MatLab experience doing these, and as an example to explain more or less what I want, I have a m code to calculate the slope from a Digital elevation model: slope=zeros(row, col); for i=2:row-1 for j=2:col-1

How can I map numbers to colours with raster?
This code will read binary file and display it as a map. may problem is that this code is using a continuous colour scheme, even though I have discrete data (which is a classification scheme). How can I map numbers to colours with raster? Please require(raster) conne <- file("C:\\lai.bin", "rb") sd<- readBin(conne, integer(), size=1, n=360*720, signed=F)
