pdf() and pch problems
Hi
R-2.8.1, Suse 11.1
I'm having problems with pdf(). In the following
transcript, file 'f.pdf' does not use the expected symbols for the plot.
It uses a 'q' letter instead of the open circle I get when
viewing the graphics window.
I also get the same under r47678.
Does anyone else get this?

tar warnings in R-3.0.2 RC when R is installed by a different (non-root) user
Hi,
I created a package as follows:
> a = 1
> package.skeleton()
Then I got the following output when building the package:
* checking for file ?anRpackage/DESCRIPTION? ... OK
* preparing ?anRpackage?:
* checking DESCRIPTION meta-information ... OK
* checking for LF line-endings in source and make files
* checking for empty or unneeded directories
* looking to see if a ?data/datalist?

why is \alias{anRpackage} not mandatory?
Dear R developers,
if one uses package.skeleton() to create a new package, then a file
anRpackage.Rd with the following entries is prepared:
\name{anRpackage-package}
\alias{anRpackage-package}
\alias{anRpackage}
\docType{package}
Packages created this way have a definite entry or overview page, so:
?anRpackage
gives new users of a certain package a pointer where to start reading.

installing packages systemwide
I installed some downloaded packages in R. I always do
$sudo R CMD INSTALL <anRpackage.tar.gz>
By default it is storing these packages into my directory

However I want them to be systemwide into /usr/local/lib/R/site-library/
folder.
I tried
$sudo R

Class not found when search in .onLoad
Hi,
I am facing with a strange behaviour of isClass and extends when these
are called in .onLoad in both R 2.12.1 and R 2.13.0. This is preventing
my package from doing some object initializations at a proper place
(i.e. in .onLoad).
Suppose one defines two S4 classes in a package, and that one needs to
check the inheritance between these two when loading the package (e.g.

Possible Regression in setClassUnion between 3.5.0 and 3.6.0
I am trying to create a class union of class unions to facilitate method
dispatch. When I execute code in the global environment, everything acts as
expected, however when I put the same code in the context of a package,
selectMethod can no longer find the correct method. This first block below
puts the code in the context of a package:

Can't install.packages() from local repo in 2.15.2
Hi guys
I think there's a high chance this is a bug. But I can't rule out that I can be blamed for this. I've posted this to bugzilla (#15092). Then I read that I probably should have posted it to R-develop first. Sorry for doing this in the wrong order.
I've set up a local repo on my local drive (happens to be mapped to L:/). It has the following structure (as per

package.skeleton() in R-2.4.1
Hi
R version 2.4.0 alpha (2006-09-06 r39158)
MacOSX 10.4.7
There was a thread some time ago as to whether the structure created by
package.skeleton() would pass R CMD check.
I have an example where package.skeleton() gives an R file that gives an
error when sourced.
If I type
setClass("brob",
representation = representation

R CMD check error, Readitem unknown type 203
Hi,
Apologies if it has already been posted. I searched the archives and
couldn't find the answer to my problem.
I am building a R package and while checking it with R CMD check, I get
the following error,

Okay - that makes sense and thanks for looking into this! As an aside, from
R-devel's perspective would you say methods are stabilizing again or do you
foresee a lot of changes coming in the 4.* series?

[PATCH 0/2] Deprecate zfile
OK let's restart this whole architecture thing.
Firstly two patches which pass the '-z' parameter to 'file' so it
looks inside compressed files. (Thanks to Matt for finding this
not-so-obscure option).
This means the 'zfile' command is now obsolete.

"NA" vs. NA
Dear All,
I assume this is an R-devel issue, apologies if I missed something
obvious. I have a dataframe where the row names are country codes,
based on ISO 3166, something like this:
------------
"v1" "v2"
"UK" 1 2
"NA" 2 3
------------
It happens that "NA" is the country code for "Namibia", and that

I was updating my help pages for a package when all of a sudden I got the
following error when using R CMD INSTALL:

Removing all the help files makes the error disappear, but only removing the
