bug in R CMD INSTALL do_install under OS X
Hi, I believe I've encountered a bug in the do_install function in the
script used by R CMD INSTALL. I'm using R 2.8.0 under OS X 10.5.5. I was
trying to install a package from source (the package gaga which I maintain,
which I checked and builds correctly for R 2.8.0) when I get the error
message

problem with dl tag in tools::Rd2HTML
I think tools::Rd2HTML has a problem with the dl tag.
Under some conditions, <p> and </p>, and <dl> and </dl> are not nested
correctly.
Here is an example from the "options" doc file:
--
<p>
<dl>
<dt><code>save.defaults</code>, <code>save.image.defaults</code>:</dt><dd>

What does \Sexpr[results=rd]{} exactly mean in Rd?
Hi,
I have spent a few hours on the R-exts manual and the documentation of
parse_Rd() (as well as the PDF document in the references), but I
still have not figured out what results=rd means. I thought I could
use an R code fragment to create an Rd fragment dynamically. Here is
an example, in which I was expected the output to be a describe list
<DL> in HTML, but it turns out not to be true.

Restrict package to load-only access - prevent attempts to attach it
Hi,
I'm developing a package whose API is only meant to be used in other
packages via imports or pkg::foo(). There should be no need to attach
this package so that its API appears on the search() path. As a
maintainer, I want to avoid having it appear in search() conflicts by
mistake.
This means that, for instance, other packages should declare this
package under 'Imports' or

Changes to Rd handling in R-devel
I've just committed some fairly big changes to R-devel.
- There's a new tag \Sexpr which allows R code to be embedded within
the Rd file, similar to Sweave, \RdOpts
corresponds to \SweaveOpts.
- The parser now mainly issues warnings, rather than errors, in case
of syntax errors. It throws away a few tokens and tries to restart.
This should let you see most of your errors in

Dynamic help pages
I've just committed code that allows R to be built with support for
dynamic help pages using \Sexpr in Rd files. Define USE_NEW_HELP and
the R function tools:::.convertRdfiles will be used instead of the Perl
RdConv script, supporting \Sexpr and using the new R converters.
Currently only text help has the macros evaluated when the user asks for
help; the others are rendered at install

checkRd freezes while parsing erroneous preprocessor macros
Dear developers,
I came across with a bug while parsing Rd files.
Given is the following minimal Rd file:
----
\name{foo}
\title{foo}
\description{
#ifdef windows
win
#endifd
#ifdef unix
unix
#endif
}
----
By accident I have a typo at line 6, instead of having #endif I typed #endifd.
If I run checkRd(), parse_Rd(), Rd2HTML(), or others including the command line "R CMD Rconv" R

generating HTML help pages
Dear All,
I need to convert all Rd help pages for my package to HTML format in
order to serve these on our web-server. Ideally, I would like to do that
as "all docs in single page" and also index page + one html page per Rd
file.
Looking through documentation the only clues I could find were
* R CMD Rdconv --type=html FILE, which does not produce cross-links,

overlaying points and lines on a surface3d rgl plot with axes
Hi R users and experts,
I am interested in learning more about the use of 3D plots. Specifically, I
want to add points and lines to a surface plot. And get the axes and labels
plotted also. Here is what I have tried with an example data set :
library(rgl)
vol2 <- 2*volcano # Exaggerate the relief
library(reshape)
mvol2 <- melt(vol2)
str(mvol2)
# First, persp and persp3d plots do not succeed

QUICK PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Cu created a dataset which contains all the zvols for a particular

using a match statement in the zoneconfig (see long problem description
for details). After the initial boot of the zone

StorNext CVFS
Morning All!
Anyone ever tried exporting a StorNext CVFS filesystem from a Linux box???
I?ve got this Samba server (3.5.6) running on CentOS 5.4 and it?s working
fine, exporting ext3, nfs and an IBM GPFS filesystem just fine. So I know
Samba is good an my configuration is working.
I tried to add the exportation of a StorNext CVFS volume and that doesn?t
work. All the other volumes still work

Using MathJax in R's help system
Hi,
I am doing a small experiment to test if I can use
MathJax ( official site: http://www.mathjax.org )
in R's html help pages (i.e. options(help_type='html'))
and it seems working with some minor modifications.
The screenshot (rendered by Firefox 4.0 beta and with STIX fonts) of
the help page in html format with MathJax enabled is at the following

Openvpn and samba: play nice together?
Friends--
I'm stumped! Cannot get mount.cifs to work over a tun connection. How
would you trouble-shoot this?
1. It cannot be openvpn causing the problem: I can ping across the
connection both directions on all machines.
2. It cannot be samba causing the problem: I can mount.cifs the smb
shares on the lan (using the identical credentials file) without any issue.
3. Have iptables

SUGGESTION: Settings to disable forked processing in R, e.g. parallel::mclapply()
I'd like to pick up this thread started on 2019-04-11
(https://hypatia.math.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2019-April/077632.html).
Modulo all the other suggestions in this thread, would my proposal of
being able to disable forked processing via an option or an
environment variable make sense? I've prototyped a working patch that
works like:
> options(fork.allowed = FALSE)
