Dear Professor Ripley,
a. I apologise for not including the file. I sent the E-Mail to=20
R-bugs at r-project.org with an attachment, but the attachment evidently got=20
lost. However the text of the file is as follows:

indices <- rep(sequence(5),10)
substrings <- substring(characters,indices,indices + 5)

plot.design()
Greetings-
I'm working through Pinheiro and Bates' _Mixed Effects Models in S and
S-Plus_ using R (1.3.1 for linux). On page 13 (okay, so I haven't got that
far :)) is:
plot.design( ergoStool)
which returns on my system:
> plot.design(ergoStool)
Error: couldn't find function "plot.design"
any ideas?
Thanks.

Install R on Mac OS.X
I am running R 1.8.1 flawlessly on my mac with OS.X.3
My friend is running 1.6.1 but it is impossible for him to make 1.8.1
work. I do not understand why it should work better in my computer. I
do, however, have X.11 installed, he doesnt, could that be an issue and
if it is, does it suffice to install X.11 after RAqua has been
installed?

smbclient fails to list directory >36 entries
Hi all,
I have a problem with smbclient from the samba-client-3.0.14a-2 package
supplied with Fedora Core 2. It hangs when listing any directory with
over 36 items in it on one particular Windows XP Professional box I'm
trying to back up. If I run smbclient -d 3, I get the following output
over and over when listing the directory:
received 36 entries (eos=0)
received 36 entries (eos=0)

Samba authentication slow after upgrade to Samba 3
Hi,
I have just upgraded a server from Samba 2 to Samba 3 and some of the
Windows clients are taking a long time to authenticate shares (1 or 2
minutes). Eventually the username/password box appears and then when you
enter a correct password, all is fine - it is just the initial
authentication.
This is a simple UNIX password Samba server (with NIS) and I have set it
to not use encrypted

Conntrack, nat and multipath - what is wrong here?
I have a gentoo 2.6.14 box with 4 nics, LAN/DMZ/PUB1/PUB2
LAN and DMZ have a 1918 /22 each, PUB1 and PUB2 have a /29 each of which 5 ips
are assigned.
Using the mangle table, I give all packets a mark (according to local
policies) in the range 1-10. Using ip rule, i pass marks 1-5 through the pub1
route table, and marks 6-10 through the pub2 routing table. Using the nat
table, I SNAT to one

eos on continued page
Hi,
I'm working on a new ogg file chopper (porting 'hogg chop' to C).
These work pagewise, ie. they just copy the pages that are needed from
the input to the output bitstream.
I'm modifying the last page in the output bitstream so that it has the
eos flag set. The last page is always one that has a granulepos set
(that of the last packet finishing on that page). But let's say

Re: Fallback trouble with icecast 2.1kh
In fact, after further investigation, the client receives data, but it
seams those data are lacking an end of stream or end of packet tag.
Trying to be clearer, here is an extract of the algorithm, with in
UPPERCASE the value of the conditions.

while (eos == 0)

Guest account access with User mode security?
Hi,
I have a Samba server that I have just transitioned from Samba v2 to v3
and at the same time I have changed from share mode security to user
mode security.
I having problems allowing guest access to some of my shares on the
server. I have some shares (such as apps and cdrom etc) that I would
like to allow anyone to access - even if they do not have an login
account on the Samba server. This

bug report for oggenc in CVS: vorbis-tools/oggenc/encode.c
I was wondering why my CD ripping was producing short files from some tracks.
A superficial examination of the code shows this piece of code in vorbis-tools/oggenc/encode.c:
Line 120:
/* Main encode loop - continue until end of file */
while(!eos)

BUG: page-aligned data in libshout
I've spent three days tracking this bug down.. I have yet to find how to
fix it in the code, tho I do have a workaround which proves the nature
of the bug. Sorry for the somewhat-overkill nature of explaining this
bug, but some people have been doubting it so I'm going to give the
evidence nessesary to prove the nature of it.

How should guest access work with Samba 3 and User Mode Security???
Hi,
Please can someone confirm to me how guest access should work on a Samba
3 Server configured for User Mode Security.
Am I correct in thinking that shares configured as guest OK should be
accessible by users without accounts on the server and hence they should
not have to supply login name and password. (This used to work OK on
Samba 2 and Share Mode security)
I want to share out

any help with pyogg and pyvorbis?
Dear List,
I'm just creating a little application for my openmoko freerunner,
unfortunately in python, so that I have to use pyogg and
pyvorbis(http://ekyo.nerim.net/software/pyogg/index.html) as wrappers
around the C-functions and objects.
I've got it all installed, after applying some patches and trying to run
an example of encoding a wave-file I just get an empty ogg-file, the
