Rf_PrintValue problem with methods::show
Hi,
I think this is a bug (even though I can't find documentation
explicitly saying that it should work). Basically, Rf_PrintValue(obj)
fails when 'obj' is an S4 object that should be printed using show()
rather than print(). From the error message I'm guessing that the need
to use show is detected correctly but then show is not found.
"cbind2" in the code below is just

garbage collection, "preserved" variables, and different outcome depending on "--verbose" or not
Dear list,
While trying to identify the root of a problem I am having with
garbage collected variables,
I have come across the following oddity: depending on whether --verbose is set
or not, I obtain different results.
I have made a small standalone example to demonstrate it.
The example is very artificial, but I had a hard time reproducing
reliably the problem.
So when I do: (the content of

Qs on calling R from C
Consider the following simple C program:
/*** hello_r.c ***/
#include <Rinternals.h>
SEXP hello() {
return mkString("Hello, world!\n");
}
int main(void) {
SEXP x = hello();
return x == NULL; /* i.e. 0 on success */
}
This program segfaults:

hello_r.c -o hello_r > /dev/null

Error in simulation. NAN
Hi all,
im triyng to implement a bayesian model with R and c++.
I have a strange problem. I can't reproduce the error with a small
script and then i post the original one.
The problem is after the line
for(MCMC_iter2=0;MCMC_iter2<thin;MCMC_iter2++)
For the first 34 iterations all work fine, after, all the simulations
of mu_acc_P return an "nan". If i delete the line

UnauthorizedAccessException in R(D)COM
Dear friends,
I am trying to create a web application to produce some
statistical result using R. In order to avoid high CPU usage of web
server caused by R, I have to create an ASP.NET web service in another
server to involve R.
But I am facing the unauthorizedAccessException when I call the
web service, even I have assigned access and launch permission to everyone

help files for libraries that aren't in the defaults library tree
Hello,
I created a library for a bunch of functions that I use frequently
so that I dont have to carry duplicate copies around to wherever I fire
up an R sesssion. However, I have problems locating the help files
for those functions. Here are some details.
I created the library "myR" and installed this in /home/royle/R
using:
R INSTALL -l /home/royle/R /home/royle/Rpackages/myR

Building a custom Windows installer
Dear r-devel list members,
It's been several years since I last built a custom Windows installer for R,
and despite my notes and the instructions in Sections 3.1.7 and D.4 of the R
Installation and Administration Manual, I've run into a problem, receiving
the following error message:

Compiling Fortran Subroutines as R Shared Objects on Mac OS-X
Hello,
I am trying to compile some F77 subroutines as shared objects for R on my Mac.
--> Mac OS-X Version 10.4.11 (Tiger Intel Mac)
I have done this (successfully) before on Sun Solaris and Linux Fedora systems using the following command.
> R CMD SHLIB myfile.f
I have g77 installed from this page.

I have a huge vector of numbers, how I can invert orden?
For example

Read a text file into R with .Call()
Hi,
I want to read a text file into R with .Call().
So I define some NEW_CHARACTER() to store the chracters read and use SET_STRING_ELT to fill the elements.
e.g.
PROTECT(qNames = NEW_CHARACTER(10000));
char *foo; // This foo holds the string I want.
while(foo = readLine(FN)){
SET_STRING_ELT(qNames, i, mkChar(foo)));
}
In this way, I can get the desired character from qNames. The only problem

Clarifications please.
Hi
I think I have asked these questions earlier, but I been able to find
answers from the documentation (which I found poorly written in several
places). Will someone be kind enough to give me answers and enlighten me?
(as in explain with CODE?)
I want to embed R in my application and use the fPortfolio package for
carrying out risk management computations. Right now I'm reading the

tests Rin Rout
Hi the list,
Some rumour (!) say that is it possible to prepare some tests for
checking our code using .Rin and .Rout. It seems to be a very good
practice, but I did not manage to find information on it.
So does someone know how it works ? What are we suppose to write in Rin ?
More precisely :
- I have a package myPack.r in directories ~/myR/myPack/R/
- I create the directory

fast mkChar
Hi,
To speed up reading of large (few million lines) CSV files I am writing
custom read functions (in C). By timing various approaches I figured out
that one of the bottlenecks in reading character fields is the mkChar()
function which on each call incurs a lot of garbage-collection-related
overhead.
I wonder if there is a "vectorized" version of mkChar, say mkChar2(char

How to explore R internals through gdb?
Hi everyone.
I'm trying to learn my way around the R internals. I've gone pretty much as
far as I can go with the information given in Writing R Extensions and R
Internals, but I still have a lot of questions, too many in fact to post
them to the r-devel list. But I think I could answer many of these if I
could just step through R's execution during some basic operations.

best methods for strings and structures?
I'm trying to generate an R interface for a library that's commonly used and
I'm currently writing wrapper functions for file i/o and return an object
(list?) that contains the elements of the C structure. For example, reading
a file that contains:
struct CONFIG_RECORD
{
char coeffs_filename[256];
char species_filename[256];

Some R questions
Hi all,
I am working with some large data sets (1-4 GB) and have some questions
that I hope someone can help me with:
1. Is there a way to turn off garbage collector from within C interface ?
what I am trying to do is suck data from mysql (using my own C
functions) and I see that allocating each column (with about 1-4 million
items) takes between 0.5 and 1 seconds. My

R data inspection under gdb?
Hi, everyone. I'm trying to debug an R-module, written in C, and I'm using
gdb for this.
How can I print "standard" R objects from within C code?
BTW, I'm familiar with the advice to use R_PV given in Writing R Extensions,
but it's not working for me. E.g., I get
(gdb) p R_PV(x)
$1 = void
and yet
(gdb) p *x
$2 = {sxpinfo = {type = 16, obj = 0, named = 0, gp = 0,
