Problem loading RGtk2 (iconv.dll)
Hello dear R-help list and Michael Lawrence.
I wish to use GTK with R.
I installed the newest RGtk2 and GTK from:

on the path:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\
And followed the instructions on the installation manual for RGtk2, and
added the line:

iconv.dll in Windows
I recently built R-devel on Windows XP (sessionInfo below), and when loading libraries that require the iconv.dll was getting an error stating that 'This application has failed to start because iconv.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.'.
An R-2.8.1 that I installed using the Windows installer has this dll in R-2.8.1/bin, whereas in R-devel it is still in

simple Q: required sample size & usage of power.t.test()
Hi community,
Seems I am too stupid:
I try to calculate with power.t.test() an example from the statistics textbook [Jerrold H. Zar, Biostatistical Analysis, 2nd edition, Prentice Hall, 1984, Chapter 8, Exercise 8.4, (page 120)]:
-------
A sample of size 18 has a mean of 13.55cm and a variance of 6.4512cm^2.

Building R on Windows: mkdir of Rtools creates directories with read-only permissions [WEIRD]
This is is an issue that bugged me for a while. I encountered a year
ago (April 2012) when I first tried to build R from source on Windows.
I never figured out what the solution is or if I'm doing something
wrong myself (but I have found a tedious workaround). I'm still on
the same Windows 7 Ultimate machine with NTFS, but I now made sure I
started from scratch so I have a completely

Hi all,
The call to:

Loading a FORTRAN DLL
I have a FORTRAN DLL file obtained from Compaq Visual Fortran and when I try
to load the DLL into the R environment I get an error.

Re-installing this application may fix the problem."
When I tried it again, the above error doesn't appear anymore. Instead, I

Require of gWidgetsRGtk2 fails: RGtk2.dll can't be found, but it's there
Dear list,
I've been trying to get gWidgets/gWidgetsRGtk2 to run every other month
for a while, but somehow I simply can't figure out what's going wrong.
I tried several distributions of the GTK runtime environment for Windows
(http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gladewin32/gtk-2.12.9-win32-1.exe as
described in the package's vignette,

Problem building DLL under Windows
Apologies if this has appeared before, but I've searched the archives and all the documentation and I can't find anything which helps.
I'm trying to build a DLL under windows. The process (more on that later) works fine under Linux and gives the illusion of working under Windows, but attempting to load the resulting DLL using dyn.load results in:

What does this warning mean: "DLL attempted to change FPU control word from 8001f to 9001f"
I started a brand new session in R 2.10.1 (on Windows).
If it matters, I am running the community edition of MySQL 5.0.67, and it is
all running fine.
I am just beginning to examine the process of getting timer series data from
one table in MySQL, computing moving averages and computing a selection of
estimates based on relations among moving averages of different variates,
and storing all the

allowing individual level correlations to differ by cluster in lme in R
Dear R-listers,
I am fitting bivariate mixed models for cost-effectiveness data of cluster randomized trials using lme in R. So I have individuals nested within clusters. My response variable is a vector with bivariate response (individual level costs and effects) stacked into a single column. The covariates in my models are a constant and a treatment term. They are response-specific, e.g. a

Since I installed the x64 version of R (v2.12.1), I got a problem with tcltk

When loading the library, it gives me the following error message:

distributing iconv.dll
I would like to distribute Iconv for Windows with my Rails
application (developing on a Mac, no experience with dlls). I threw
iconv.dll and charset.dll under lib without luck. Where would I need
to put them (if this is possible at all)?

PS: The reported error message is in Spanish but translated reads
something like "the specified process was not found: Init_iconv".

Cannot install pakages from Bioconductor besides the default installation
I am running the last R version on SuSE 11.1.
I installed the Bioconductor environment following the instructions on the web. As a consequence some
core packages from Bioconductors were installed.
I need to add some more packages. So I tried biomaRt as follows.
It does not get installed correctly.
Please see the following sequence.
Thank you in advance.

unable to load shared object
Thanks for asking.
The path where R tries to load the dll from does not exist I think (or
the install process deletes it after the error - might this be the
case?):
C:/Users/wewol/OneDrive/Documents/R/win-library/3.5/grpc/libs/x64/grpc.dll'
When I am checking after the error that path is only valid up to:
C:/Users/wewol/OneDrive/Documents/R/win-library/3.5/
So maybe (?) the install process
