Basic package structure question
At the encouragement of many at UseR, I'm trying to build my first real package. I have no C/Fortran code, just plain old R code, so it should be rocket science. On a Linux box, I used package.skeleton() to create a basic package containing just one "hello world" type of function. I edited the DESCRIPTION file, changin the package name appropriately. I edited the hello.Rd file.

How to reinstall rpart?
After entering ?library(rpart)?, I tried to plot an existing rpart tree, and got this error message: Error: couldn't find function "plot.rpart". However, ??plot.rpart? does bring up the help for the function. The same things occur for text.rpart, although print(my.tree) does work. So, I tried to re-install rpart using Packages | Install from CRAN, but then I get this

Windows 7 installation of .qz package from SourceForge
Hello, I'm trying to install the package metRology from SourceForge. I save the zip file metRology_0.9-06.tar.gz to my Windows 7 machine, and try to install the package using the RGUI: Packages > Install packages from local zip files > metRology_0.9-06.tar.gz. There's no .zip extension, but R seems to go to work on the installation with a couple warning messages and one error.

Wishlist for promptPackage / index
Hi R-devels, would it be possible to enhance either promptPackage() or the default indexing mechanism for packages so that -- if it exists -- (the contents of) file <pkgname>-package.Rd is sorted first in * the .dvi / .pdf documentation file * the .chm documentation file * the package 00index.html documentation file ? So far I found the following "hand-made" solution

local source packages install from within R session - cross-platform
I realize that others have struggled with this issue...i.e. http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/~rking/R/help/05/01/9826.html i am on os.x 10.4 w/ R2.2, and am (perhaps foolishly) also on this quest... i would like to be able to install downloaded source (tar.gz'd) files from within an R session, and have it work in a X-platform way..i am often not connected to the internet and have libraries

Running Fortran code from R
Dear R users, I have a Fortran code that I would like to compile and call from R later. I have never worked with Fortran before. Does anyone know the steps to create Fortran DLLs for R on a Windows PC. Is anyone aware of a manual (or does anyone know how to) that explains: - What tools and software I need to download for that - How to set the paths in my PC - What

Wishlist: 'quietly' argument for .onAttach() / .First.lib()
Hi R-devels, in "Writing R extensions" as well as in the help to .onAttach(), you mention that one could use this function to issue a start-up message/banner for the package. My little wish for Easter: a 'quietly'-type argument for .onAttach() / .First.lib() which is passed through by functions require() and library() respectively, and by means of which one could optionally

case-insensitive ZIP
A development note: In the function "install.packages", it would be helpful to those of us who have atypical installations and install manually from ZIP files to have pkgnames <- sub("\\.zip$", "", pkgnames) replaced with pkgnames <- sub("\\.zip$", "", pkgnames, ignore.case = TRUE) because the contributed zipfiles are ZIPfiles. A few easy dpkg optimizations for supermin
I have done some printf profiling and found that supermin's calls to dpkg for individual packages are quite expensive. Here are some patches that gather all information on demand where possible. On my Debian/unstable-based workstation at home, preparing a minimal appliance using $ ./supermin --use-installed --prepare bash -o supermin.d now takes ~3.5s (previously ~15s). Turning that

Re: [R] case-insensitive ZIP
Uwe and Brian, Thanks for your attention to this one. We currently have the following array of atypical situations in our corporate installation: (1) Central install directory, where I neither have nor can reasonably want Administrator priviledges; (2) IT staff willing to maintain R officially but wants to leave *contributed* packages to user groups if at all possible; (3) Direct access from R
