View() + "End" key on Ubuntu=segfault
I can repeatably crash R (segfault) by doing n <- 10 z <- data.frame(a=1:n,b=1:n) View(z) and then hitting the "End" key on my keyboard. I haven't got debugging going yet, but running under gdb (without debugging symbols) does give this: 0xb7b63583 in strlen () from /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 R version 2.6.2 (2008-02-08) i486-pc-linux-gnu [Ubuntu Gutsy] locale:

Why is R so slow at plotting on Ubuntu 9.04?
under Ubuntu 9.04 R seems to be very slow at plotting. the example below illustrates with a plot of error bars of sample means where i watch as each error bar is plotted one at a time. very annoying and pain in the neck when running Sweave repeatedly. running R 2.9.1 under Windoze on the same machine the error bars plotted in the code below appear instantaneously. has anyone else noticed this

Problem Updating from 2.71 to 2.8 in Ubuntu
Hello, I have recently installed Ubuntu (8.10) Intrepid Ibex and I am trying to get R version 2.8. I have changed my /etc/apt/sources.list file to include a mirror. I have also added the Vincent Goulet key. However, whenever I run sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install r-base it installs version 2.71. Given that I am new to Ubuntu, is there anything that I need to do to make ubuntu get

'options=utils::recover' not working in .Rprofile or within R
For years I have been using options(error = recover) either in .Rprofile or from within R for debugging purposes. The functionality of this appears to have changed and I can't recover it (no pun intended) using the ?options help page. How can I get the old functionality back, particularly from within .Rprofile? A specific line entry would be appreciated. An example, the help page, and

problem with cut.Date/date plotting in ggplot2
I've hit a problem in ggplot2 which I can trace back to cut.Date , which is either a bug or (??) ggplot2 trying to do something it shouldn't with cut.Date (although its use of cut.Date seems OK). Apparently any (?) call of the form cut(as.Date("2008-07-07"),"weeks") where the date *begins the week*, gives the error Error in 1:(1 + max(which(breaks < maxx))) :

Hmisc summarize() with level "" in by variable
I was using summarize() in a data set in which one of the levels of the by variable was "". The summary statistic was consistently off by one level and the "" level was not in the output data frame. I tried to report it as a bug, but I could not log into the Hmisc bug reporting website to do so. I searched for this in the email archives. If it's there, I failed to find

install.packages now intentionally references .Rprofile?
A post on the Bioconductor mailing list https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/bioconductor/2009-May/027700.html suggests that install.packages now references .Rprofile (?), whereas in R-2-8 it did not. Is this intentional? The example is, in .Rprofile library(utils) install.packages("Biobase", repos="http://bioconductor.org/packages/2.4/bioc") then

qnbinom with small size is slow
Hi all, I recently noticed that `qnbinom()` can take a long time to calculate a result if the `size` argument is very small. For example qnbinom(0.5, mu = 3, size = 1e-10) takes ~30 seconds on my computer. I used gdb to step through the qnbinom.c implementation and noticed that in line 106 (https://github.com/wch/r-source/blob/f8d4d7d48051860cc695b99db9be9cf439aee743/src/nmath/qnbinom.c#L106)

Incorrect comment about ISNA(x) in Arith.h (PR#13826)
R-2.9.0/include/R_ext/Arith.h has: int R_IsNA(double); /* True for R's NA only */ int R_IsNaN(double); /* True for special NaN, *not* for NA */ int R_finite(double); /* True if none of NA, NaN, +/-Inf */ #define ISNA(x) R_IsNA(x) /* True for *both* NA and NaN. The first and last lines are contradictory - if R_IsNA is true only for NA, not NaN, then ISNA should be the same.

RPostgreSQL segfault with LEFT JOIN
Hi, I recently upgraded to R 2.9.0 on linux x86. After doing so, I switched to the RPostgreSQL package for interfacing with a postgresql database. I am using postgresql 8.3.7. A query that works from the postgresql terminal is causing a segfault when executed from R. My sessionInfo, the error message, and the R code used to generate the error are listed below. I have noticed that a
