R-beta: Query: installing 0.50-a1 on Solaris 2.5.1
Can anyone spot the problem here. Following is an edited script of the install
session. The gist is:
* syntax error in original src/main/dotcode.c
Easily remedied (or at least, such that compiles without error message ... )
change line 449-450 (two lines preceding return)

Problems Building R-2.3.1 on Alpha server ES40 running Tru64 V5.1B PK#5
R Listers,
One of the list contributors suggested I abandon attempts to build
R-1.9.1 and focus on building R-2.3.1. I believe the main set of
packages have been built properly (with some changes to the code) -
however, when building the Recommended packages, the build fails.
CODE CHANGES:

Problem with R INSTALL locfit on DEC alphaev56-dec-osf4.0d
Dear all,
usually I work under linux, but I tried to install R-1.1.1 on
our alpha's which worked well.
However, installation of the locfit package produced the following
warning:

R on gentoo amd64 (gcc 3.3.3) is unstable
dear wizards:
FYI: gentoo is a linux meta distribution, which compiles all packages.
Once running, gentoo is stable on most applications. (it has some
problems with system tools, such as grub.) the compiler is gcc 3.3.3.
I do not expect anyone to track down for me why R fails on the gentoo
amd64+gcc3.3.3 system, but I thought that it would be good to put it on
the record to save

problems compiling R-0.63.3 on alpha
Hi again !
Thanks for the info on updating the config.site file which I
have done. I have also added -lm in the Makeconf manually
because this is needed explicitly for DEC cc.
However, there are still a few problems when linking some
of the files as you can see from the enclosed log.
Ciao,
Andreas

R binary for Solaris 5.6 (sparc) available?
Dear R gurus,
I have some problems to compile R on Solaris 5.6.
I wonder if somebody has a compiled version he could
email me as tar.gz. Many thanks in advance.
Ciao
Armin
P.S.: Below you see the error message I get
when compiling, i.e. make R
~/R/src% make
(cd ../include; make FFTab.h)
`FFTab.h' is up to date.
(cd ../include; make FFDecl.h)
`FFDecl.h' is up to date.

data manipulation in R
Dear List:
I have a data manipulation problem that I was unable
to solve in R. I did it in SQL, and it may be that
the solution in R is to do it in SQL, but I wondered
if people could imagine a vector-based solution.
Imagine a list A[i] of observers who observe some set
of events B[j]. Each observer i may observe one or
more events, and each event j may have been observed
by one or more

problem installing quadprog
When I try to build/install the quadprog package under R1.50 and NT4
it seems to have trouble finding blas routines. I'm currently using the
generic blas routines, rather than ATLAS or some other tuned implementation:

Attention conservation notice: a digression on Fisher's iris data, related
only tangentially to R.
The package announcement for hwriter points to a webpage created with the
package, http://www.ebi.ac.uk/~gpau/hwriter/
based on the Fisher/Anderson iris data, including pictures.
Unfortunately, the pictures are not of the right species (two appear to be

R API - optim
I am trying to use the R API to call optim functions (nmmin, vmmin, lbfgsb,
etc.) through a C program but I couldn't find the shared library to link
under the R-2.6.0 build which is compiled under Linux (REL5).
main.cpp:35: undefined reference to `Rf_initEmbeddedR(int, char**)'
main.cpp:41: undefined reference to `nmmin'

Compiling R, cannot open vars.mk
Hi!
I am trying to compile R-1.8.1 on an alphaserver running Tru64 Unix.
I use the compilers cc,cxx and f77. After the compilation
I try: make check
and get the following message:
Make: Cannot open /share/make/vars.mk. Stop.
Does anyone have any suggestions on why?
Regards
Arne Gjuvsland
