X11 and linux and plotting and the vertical axis
I use R on linux and I go through exceed from a windows machine.
Depending on the amount of plots I do on a screen, sometimes the numbers
on the vertical axis
of the plots don't show up. I tried infinite of combinations of mar and
cex but nothing helps.
Yet, if instead of shooting the graphic upto the screen, I send it to a
pdf file or
a postscript file, the numbers on the vertical axis of

to an if or a while statement differs from one, an error is produced
rather than just a warning as today:

screen can't go back to log="y" plot (PR#831)
[I have abbreviated the subject as jitterbug has been having probems
with long subjects.]
The issue here is that one cannot mix log/non-log axes in the calls to
screen(), as the appropriate par() parameter is read-only, but the
meaning of yaxp depends on it. But beyond that you can't set
x/yaxp for log axes.
You should be able to do this: you can in the S original.

copy or save to metafile from graphics device shrinks plots (PR#1507)

When creating a rather complex plot, the resulting figures 'shrink' when either
copied to the clipboard or saved as a metafile using the GUI menu. Also saving
as postscript or pdf causes the same problem, as does printing the figure
directly from the graphics window. Only the figure areas shrink,

Here are another three problems with logarithmic scales:
1) segments() does not work with logarithmic scales. I suggest to change

Logarithmic axis
Hi there,
I guess this must be a standard issue, but I'm starting to go crazy with it. I
simply want a plot with the x axis being logarithmic, having labels 1, 10,
100..., and ten unlabelled ticks between each of them - just as they
introduce logarithmic axis at school. I've played around a bit with log="x",
xlog=T (where exactly is the difference here?), xaxp, and xaxt

Error in par(split.screens[[n]]) : parameter "i" in "mfg" is out of range
I'm working on my 'oce' package, trying split.screen() instead of par(mfrow).
My code is too long to post, and I hope it's ok that I ask this question
without doing so.
My code seems to work fine when I source() it, but when I do "R CMD check"
on my package, I get the error that I've put as the subject line, when it
runs examples.

Arrowheads at line-ends
Hi,
I'm quite new to R and I'm trying to do a simple plot with two lines,
one upper and one lower. The problem is that the lines are reaching
limiting values at x=0 for the upper line and x=1 for the lower.
Thus, they are undefined at that values. I would like to indicate
that with arrowheads. So I want a arrowhead at the left end of the

filling area under a function line
Hi R collective,
I quite like the "curve" function because you can chuck a R function
into it, and see the graph in one line of R.
I had a google and found some threads for filling under the line;

log axis assignment
Hi again,
another problem:
This (below) isn't working and as far as I can see it damn well should. What
I'm trying to acomplish is to run several data sets through the same
graphing procedure, but for the pH data use a log y axis. using this code
all graphs are drawn with a linear axis. Surely I should be able to set the
ylog option to T using another object (logaxis).

Date format on x-axis
Dear R users,
Plotting question from a R beginner...
When I try to plot a response through time, for example:

yaxp problem for more irregular time series in one plot
Good day,
I'm trying to get more time series in one plot. As there are bigger
differences in values of variables I need logaritmic y axis.
The code I use is the following:

Break in the y-axis
Hello all,
I have been having trouble getting a break in my y-axis. All of my data
points are up around 100-200, but the graph has to start at zero, so i would
like to remove all the white space using a break symbol. I have been able
to get the break and labels to be correct, however, I can't seem to get the
data to match the axis anymore. I must be using the axis.break() in plotrix
