Fontconfig warning with X11() on MAC OS X 10.4
I posted previously about problems with X11() on my MAC using R 2.8.1 . After installing the securilty update for Tiger this morning, X11() now works from an xterm :-) However, I receive the following warnings with any plotting command using the default X11 settings. Fontconfig warning: no <cachedir> elements found. Check configuration. Fontconfig warning: adding

PR#10371
Oops -- I should have tested it without libraries loaded :-) The conflict must be with the HH package. I tested the example again using all the packages required by HH and do get the correct results, but once the HH package is loaded, the TukeyHSD function returns "height" and the plot command gives the error described previously. Should I report this bug directly to the authors of

is.loaded("gamma") is FALSE in Windows
Hi! I am working on dynamically loading some C code into R and have my programs working on a DEC alpha. I have tried porting it to windows and found that the gamma function is not loaded in the symbol table there, but is under unix. While I can add in the gamma function, I would prefer to use the same one as in R and have the same code under unix and wondows. Is there a way to access the

X11 Problems
Hi all, I'm having trouble getting x11 to work with R. (This is on Debian testing.) I installed r-base and r-base-dev, and then r-cran-cairodevice. I also tried installing the Cairo package within R, which appears to work fine. This what I'm seeing: > capabilities() jpeg png tiff tcltk X11 aqua http/ftp sockets TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE

Second X11 call with invalid display crashes R after first X11 call. (PR#12628)
I get this with R 2.7.2 (and 2.7.1, and 2.6.2, but NOT 2.4.0): > X11() # this one opens up okay > X11("foo") Error: Couldn't find per display information $ and R crashes out back to my shell prompt. If I do X11("foo") as a first command I get a meaningful error and my R prompt back: > X11("foo") Error in X11(d$display, d$width, d$height,

I am running R 2.7.16.0 on Suse linux 11.0 with KDE 4.0 I have several desktops, that I use at the same time, called Desktop 1, Desktop 2, etc. I want to open a X11() window in another desktop than the one I'm working from. Bug report in foreign library (PR#13425)
here appears to be a bug in the foreign library. The following code used to work, but now generates an error when 'package="SAS"' is specified: ds <- read.csv("http://www.math.smith.edu/sasr/datasets/help.csv") # running foreign package version 0.8-30 library(foreign) # this works fine write.foreign(ds, "foo", "bar", package="Stata") #

Unexpected mfrow, layout behavior (pdf still has multiple pages)
My goal is to create a graph with one column and three rows into a single graphic. The mfrow, mfcol, and layout functions all have the same effect: three graphs are produced in a single pdf file, having one graph per page. This is not what I want (I didn't want multiple pages). Just before I sent this post, I was able to generate the desired output with split.screen. Is this the expected

bug (PR#13570)
<<insert bug report here>> This is a CRITICAL bug!!! I have verified it in R 2.8.1 for mac and for windows. The problem is with loess degree=0 smoothing. For example, try the following: x <- 1:100 y <- rnorm(100) plot(x, y) lines(predict(loess(y ~ x, degree=0, span=0.5))) This is obviously wrong. x11 colortype problems ('gray' is broken?) (PR#512)
Hi, I occasionally run out of color in my X11 terminal. At this point, R will issue this error message: Error: X11 cannot allocate additional graphics colors. Consider using colortype="pseudo.cube" or "gray". An immediate x11(colortype="pseudo.cube") doesn't work as the colortype seems to be shared among the different x11 plotting windows. So I have

(PR#1065) X11 protocol errors after all x11 devices are
I've fixed the original report and Tom's first. Someone had incorrrectly arranged for most of the initialization to be done only once per session. I did ask before 1.3.0 what the intention was .... For pseudocolor devices at least this was biting since the palette was not re-initialized. I don't see point two on my system, and Martin's point about interruption was first shown

Obtaining names of ``...'' arguments.
This may be an FAQ, but a (perfunctory) search failed to turn it up. Suppose I have a function foo(...){<something>} and I want to obtain, inside foo, the names of items comprising the ``...''. E.g. if I call foo(melvin, clyde, irving) I want to be able to loop through the ``...'' and successively obtain the text strings "melvin", "clyde", and

Determining name of calling function.
I have vague recollections of seeing this question discussed on r-help previously, but I can't find the relevant postings. I want to determine (from within a given function) the name of the function calling that given function. E.g. if I have a function foo() which calls a function bar(), and also a function clyde() which calls bar(), I want to have, in the code of bar(), an instruction

Samba misconfig... (long)
I am trying to get my samba setup running (after putting it on the back burner for a few months with other issues). I am running Samba 3.0.0 on a SuSE 7.2 install. I have a linux box (clyde) and a Win2K box (Badmonkey) connected via a firewall/network. My smb.conf file is shown here: -- # Sambxa config file created using SWAT # from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) # Date: 2003/12/04 05:28:37 # Global
