R and multi cpu ATLAS
Dirk suggested I move this thread over here. I am trying to get a multithreaded (multi CPU) version of ATLAS working with R, and have been unable, thus far, to get it working. Has anyone gotten an multithreaded version of ATLAS working on Debian (64 bit)? I've tried this: apt-get source atlas -t unstable cd atlas-3.8.3 DEFAULTS=n fakeroot debian/rules custom but it is APPEARING to only

R with ATLAS avoids Linux cpu affinity
Hi all, I have a problem with cpu affinity in my R-2.11.1 installation compiled against ATLAS running on a Linux (Ubuntu 10.04) cluster under GridEngine. I wish to use Grid Engine's core binding feature to bind user processes into the number of cores they request on the cluster, thus preventing badly behaved multi-threaded libraries from consuming more cores than requested. An example of

looking for a better way to code a bar graph
I've just used r a little, so this might be a trivial question but I have a small data file part, vs/total ,ps/total, gpgpu, date ... ... ... ... .. that contains the percent that certain features contribute to a part and the date the part was built I'd like to do stacked bar graphs one bar per part showing the

sweave output
I'm just starting to use sweave with latex and have a beginner question I expect this has been asked before - but I cannot seem to find the answer An input like: <<echo=false>>= X <- 1:3 X @ Generates [1] 1 2 3 Is there a way to suppress the [1] ? I know I can write each term out using this the line is \Sexpr{X[1]} \Sexpr{X[2]} \Sexpr{X[3]} But there must be a simpler

[Slightly OT] Mac and Samba
Hello all... I have a question that is outside the realm of my experience but that has come up several times recently. I have a mixed network (some Macs, some PCs) that needs a server. I'm going through the standard process of deciding between Samba and a Windows domain controller, my strong preference being to install Linux/Samba server. The sticking point seems to be that the Mac users

libRblas.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
R 3.5.1 is installed under Linux Mint 19 from binaries r-base and r-base-dev from ubuntu bionic-cran35.? Mysteriously, packages using libRblas cannot be compiled.? I get: libRblas.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.? And indeed, I find no libRblas.so. Any ideas about how to fix this? Thanks, Steve

About FlexiBLAS in the R-admin docs
I agree that the "R Installation and Administration" guide statement about FlexiBLAS needs an update. Standard R in CentOS Stream 9, which is now downstream from Fedora, gives the following result for Matrix products in sessionInfo(): > sessionInfo() R version 4.3.1 (2023-06-16) Platform: x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu (64-bit) Running under: CentOS Stream 9 Matrix products: default

Question about GUI processing order
I am developing a GUI with WxRuby (wxruby-1.9.1-i386-mswin32, ruby-1.8.6). In one of my button event handlers I do the following in this order: set the value of a TextCtrl, show a button (which was hidden), hide the button that was caused this event play some sounds (using Sound.play) What I observe is that all these things happen, but not in the order I specified. Hiding the button occurs

Update today broke foreign package (PR#13533)
Hi, I'm running R 2.8.1 on Ubuntu, and today I got updates for a couple of packages, including foreign (r-cran-foreign, now at version 0.8.32). Subsequent to the upgrade, attempts to invoke read.spss produce the following error: Error in inherits(x, "factor") : object "cp" not found and the call to read.spss fails. I forced a downgrade to 0.8.26, and read.spss

Windows member servers have lost their minds...
Hello all... I'm having a serious problem after a Samba upgrade from 3.0.20 to 3.0.23c. A bit of background: I have a network with a Samba PDC and several member servers running Windows 2000 server. I upgraded my PDC from Mandrivalinux to RHEL5, which (obviously) included a Samba upgrade. I renamed the old server to a different hostname and IP address, and disabled Samba on it, then I copied

Gelman-Rubin Convergence test
Dear friends, I run the Gelman-Rubin Convergence test for a MCMC object I have and I got the following result Multivariate psrf 1.07+0i, What does this mean? I guess (if I am not mistaken) that I should get a psrf close to 1.00 but what is 1.07+0i? Is that convergence or something else? Jorge [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Xeon CPU and ATLAS
I am about to get a new machine at work - an IBM Intellistation with the Xeon 2.8 GB processor. It will run Windows 2000. I would like to install the proper ATLAS dll for this machine, but I am not sure if Xeon is P4? Does anybody have any experience with Xeon? Thanks in advance, Andy __________________________________ Andy Jaworski 518-1-01 Process Laboratory 3M Corporate Research Laboratory

why no libRblas.so in ubuntu packages on CRAN?
Hi, everybody. I notice debian packages for Ubuntu on CRAN are missing "libRblas.so" and I'm trying to find out why. Why do I care? We are working in an hpc project in a CentOS Linux cluster. That led me to the question of "which BLAS is fastest?" Dirk E referred me this morning to the R admin manual. The standard R compilation creates a shared blas library libRblas.so

MCMCpack combining chains
Deal all, as MCMClogit does not allow for the specification of several chains, I have run my model 3 times with different random number seeds and differently dispersed multivariate normal priors. For example: res1 = MCMClogit(y~x,b0=0,B0=0.001,data=mydat, burnin=500, mcmc=5500, seed=1234, thin=5) res2 = MCMClogit(y~x,b0=1,B0=0.01,data=mydat, burnin=500, mcmc=5500, seed=5678, thin=5) res3 =

Resources for utilizing multiple processors
Hello, I know of some various methods out there to utilize multiple processors but am not sure what the best solution would be. First some things to note: I'm running dependent simulations, so direct parallel coding is out (multicore, doSnow, etc). I'm on Windows, and don't know C. I don't plan on learning C or any of the *nix languages. My main concern deals with Multiple
