printing a variable name in a for loop
Hello,
How do you print a variable name in a for loop?
I'm trying to construct a csv file that looks like this:
Hello, variable1, value_of_variable1, World,
Hello, variable2, value_of_variable2, World,
Hello, variable3, value_of_variable3, World,
Using this:
for (variable in list(variable1, variable2, variable3)){
cat("Hello,", ???variable???, variable, ",

Signing In Other than Root
Hi;
How do I make it so that it's impossible to SSH into the server directly as
root? That is, make it necessary to SSH in as an ordinary user and then su
to root?
TIA,

'is.integer' (PR#13671)
Full_Name: Mauricio
Version: 2.9.0 (2009-04-17)
OS: i486-pc-linux-gnu
Submission from: (NULL) (193.205.203.3)
This is a very simple function that seems not to be working, according to the
definition given by '?is.integer'.
I checked in the Bug Tracking page at http://bugs.R-project.org/, but I didn't
find any related message.
The possible problem is:
> is.integer(1)
[1] FALSE

Using the system command
Hello, I am currently taking a statistics course and we are to do a project producing a graph using multiple input files.
In R, I'm trying to build a filelist based on a pattern. For some reason, if I do the command interactively and not assign it to an array variable I get what I thought I should, but if I do this inside my R program it chops off some file names and thinks there are two.

ppinit
Probably a simple question, but I can't find the answer to it ...
In the 'ppinit' code it describes how it takes a 'file in standard format' and creates a point process object with it. Can anyone enlighten me as to what this 'standard format' is? The example given doesn't allow me to view the '.dat' file that apparently is in this format.
Thanks,
Suzie

I'm trying to fit a model using variance components in R, but if very
new on it, so I'm asking for your help.
I have imported the SPSS database onto R, but I don't know how to
convert the commands... the SPSS commands I'm trying to convert are:

Is Samba Acting as a BDC
I believe I've set up a machine as a BDC for a Samba PDC and I'm trying to test that. Doc sources are the Samba3 Howto and Samb3 by
example.
net lookup dc (run on bdc or other samba server)lists 2 IP's that indicate that it is in fact a BDC.

Domain 'CMT' is pre Windows

error in message printed by L-BFGS-B
Hi
I have a FORTRAN version of the L-BFGS-B algorithm and I was comparing it
to the code in the lbfgsb.c file available at R-4.0.0.tar.gz
Everithing looks the same, except for those two lines that must be printed
by the prn3lb function in case of an error (lines 3559 and 3561 in
lbfgsb.c):
case -5: Rprintf("l(%d) > u(%d). No feasible solution", k, k); break;

Non-procedural access to columns of a matrix
Hi,
I would like to have an index for a column in a matrix encoded in a
cell of the same matrix.
For example:
x = matrix(c(11,12,13,1,
21,22,23,3,
31,32,33,2),byrow=T,ncol=4)
In this case, column 4 is the index. I then access the column
specified in the index by:
> for (i in 1:3) print(x[i,x[i,4]])
[1] 11
[1] 23
[1] 32
>
> for (i in 1:3) {x[i,x[i,4]] <- x[i,x[i,4]] + 5}
> x

Possible bug in R parser
Dear R developers,
A recent typo led me to discover, that R is happy to accept
> 20x2
[1] 20
as input. This appears to be related to the parsing of hexadecimal
constants, since there must be a zero before the 'x' (i.e. 2x2 or
02x02 gives the expected error). All this is under R 2.12.1 on both OS
X and Linux. Is this expected behavior?
Cheers,
Olaf Mersmann
