Mongrel Web Server 0.3.12 -- Pre-Release
Hello Everyone, Mongrel is due for a 0.3.12 release which will feature some pretty insane goodies for everyone. There''s talk of IOWA support, lots of speed improvements (including sendfile support), a great Configurator which makes configuring Mongrel a snap (especially for framework implementers), and a ton of debugging stuff. WARNING This is a pre-release announcement for the

Mongrel 0.3.6 -- Win32 Service/Rails Real Good
Hello Folks, This release of Mongrel should make the win32 folks go crazy. Thanks to Luis Lavena it supports a full service system for installing any Rails app as a service. This lets you start your rails apps from either the command line or the Service console. Stopping is still a bit problematic but we hope to have that solved in the next release. You win32 folks should probably send Luis

[OT] I Finally Got an Atom Feed
Hi folks, I took a break from Mongrel today and instead whipped up an Atom feed generator for my site. People who love or utterly hate my essays will lover or utterly hate to subscribe to it. http://www.zedshaw.com/feed.atom Let me know if it isn''t working well in your favorite feed reader. -- Zed A. Mongrel 0.3.19 -- The Gnostic MIME Type Release
Hello All, I''m putting out a quick half-release because there''s some work on the MIME types I''ve included that needs to be done by all of you. Read at the end to understand your role in what you started. This release features two major capitulations on Mongrel''s stance of not being a full web server. The first is Mongrel now sports a YAML file with 739 MIME

fckeditor works, but i cant get my buttons back...
I am going to bet this is a mongrel issue, because this doesn''t happen under webrick. Anyway, I was able to get fckeditor: http://www.fckeditor.net/ to work under rails: http://www.joshuamcharles.com/xhtml/fckrails.php i even saw the part about adding "1. Adding a YAML configuration file. For example, create $(RAILS_ROOT)/config/mongrel_mime.yml with the contents: xml:

Mongrel Web Server 0.3.12 -- Finally Out
Hello Folks, This is the long awaited (like 2 weeks) 0.3.12 release of Mongrel. This release has received heavier testing than previous releases and supports a whole raft of improvements to existing functionality plus some new stuff. For those not clued in, Mongrel is a web server written in (mostly) Ruby. Check the funny dogs and read the docs about it at http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/. The

Mongrel 0.3 -- Runs Ruby On Rails
Hello Folks, This is the long awaited release of the Mongrel HTTP library that supports *Ruby On Rails*. I know tons of people have been waiting for it, so I''ve got a few things to lay down first before you get all excited: 1) It''s very very ALPHA support for Rails. It will run a Rails app, and runs my simple apps, but it''s not fast or correct as it needs to

Mongrel 0.3.13.3 -- Ruby Licensed Release
Hello Everyone, This is the official 0.3.13.3 release of Mongrel. Mongrel is now released under the *Ruby license* instead of the LGPL. I''m hoping this increases the adoption of Mongrel even further and hopefully I can start pushing to get Mongrel included in Ruby directly. INSTALL As usual, you install it with your friendly gem install method of choice: gem install mongrel Or

Rails on Mongrel
Hi, After following advice from you good folks, I gave mongrel a try in a cluster design based on the example on the Mongrel website - and it worked right out of the box which is great - and it''s very fast :) I have got a bit stuck though. I have two MS Word files in /public/files/. I can pull back these files no problem but it isn''t sending a mimetype. I think I have two

Mongrel Console 0.1 -- script/console meets mongrel
This is a super quick announcement for a new Mongrel plugin called mongrel_console. It was inspired by a request from Tobias L?tke who wanted to tail out logs while Mongrel was running. What mongrel_console does is combine the Rails script/console with Mongrel so that you can control a mongrel server while using script/console. Sounds weird but it''s quite awesome for development

Mongrel 0.3.2 -- The Right Site/All Requests Answered
"Another Mongrel release?! Is he insane?" Yeah, basically. This is yet another release of Mongrel that adds a bunch of little features people requested and I found were needed. This release is almost entirely targeted at Ruby on Rails folks as the majority of the changes went into the mongrel_rails runner. Get this release from the (correctly linked) site: *

Graceful stop in, timeouts out (for now)
Hey Luis, Just implemented the first cut at a graceful stop setup. It seems to mostly work except for a few hicups here and there which I''ll test out. I''ve tested this under OSX and will test on the other platforms soon. To use it take a look at the examples/simpletest.rb and see how I setup an "INT" handler to call HttpServer.stop. Hopefully this will help with

mongrel_rails: bug in -C handling?
Hi, I wanted to set port in config file (via mongrel_rails -C config/config.yaml), and it seems to not take it into account. I''ve looked into the code, (line 58), and it reads: settings = conf.merge(settings) Now settings contain all the possible (important) keys (possibly with nil values, line 49, and lib/mongrel/command.rb, line 46) so everything from conf get overwritten with

Upload progress "plugin"
mongreleers, This is a hack for adding basic upload progress support to Mongrel. Currently, you can monitor the upload of any POST. I''m sure some work needs to be done to get it functioning with Rails. Save as lib/mongrel/progress. Anyway, here''s how to start Mongrel with it: require ''mongrel'' require ''mongrel/camping'' require

Mongrel not creating pid file
Here''s my config: :debug: false :daemon: true - mongrel :log_file: log/mongrel.log :pid_file: log/mongrel.pid :environment: development And I start Mongrel with: mongrel_rails -C config/mongrel.yml It starts up fine, and creates and logs to the log file, but I haven''t seen it create a pid file yet. Any idea why? BTW, why does Mongrel generate a config with vars like :var:

deciphering objects.log
Howdy -- I''ve been tracking down mem leaks (oh, the fun...), and I think there is a clue in objects.log. There are a few mentions of this file, but usually Zed saying "look at this file and it will help you". Can anyone clue me in to what the actual columns mean? 18,Float,143952,256821,112869,,, 18,String,39543,41693,2150,24.727076,55.526376,2308.000000

New Mongrel 0.3.13 Documentation: HOWTO Do Everything
Just a quick note for a few new features/fixes available on the Mongrel pre-release and a new document that covers nearly all the big features and configurations for Mongrel. First, the document is http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/docs/howto.html and it covers: * All the start command options including the fresh -G option to generate a config for -C. * The format and usage of the MIME type file (-m

Question for Zed
Zed, I purchased your book and was reading through it. On page 25 it states: "Mongrel will give precedence to the parameter values in the config file over those in the command line." I was wondering why this is not the other way around, preference given to the command line options. Thanks, ~Wayne
