Checking your package's help files
It seems that many package authors do not proofread the help installed
with their packages. The Rd converter is not a parser, and it will
silently produce incorrect results on incorrect input (and some correct
input).
Here are a few hints about some common errors:
1) When you run R CMD check you get a PDF manual at
<pkg>.Rcheck/<pkg>-manual.pdf. Read through it looking for

Experimental Rd parser in trunk.
I've just committed the parse_Rd() function to R-devel. This is a
parser for Rd files, described in
http://developer.r-project.org/parseRd.pdf
It is not identical to the current parser, and about a dozen of the base
man pages currently signal syntax errors. It also detected errors in 10
files that were errors according to both definitions, but were missed by
the current system, and

Misuse of $<matn expressions>$ in Rd files
'Writing R Extensions' tells you that $ needs to be escaped in Rd files
outside \code and similar. So I was surprised to find that ca 80 CRAN
packages have constructions like (from ISwR)
\item{\code{folate}}{
a numeric vector, folate concentration ($\mu$g/l).
}
This does not render sensibly in non-latex conversions, and it is what we
have \eqn{} for.

New package test results available
We've added a column at
http://cran.r-project.org/web/checks/check_summary.html
of test results using the Sun Studio compiler: it is intended that
these will be updated weekly.
The Sun Studio compiler is that used on Solaris: these runs were on
the Linux version. All the other platforms are using gcc 4, so this
provides an opportunity for checking for use of gcc-specific features

Testing window for R 2.13.0
We are now starting testing R 2.13.0/alpba/beta/RC and testing and
feedback would be appreciated (whereas reports on problems immediately
after release will try our patience).

Using MathJax in R's help system
Hi,
I am doing a small experiment to test if I can use
MathJax ( official site: http://www.mathjax.org )
in R's html help pages (i.e. options(help_type='html'))
and it seems working with some minor modifications.

I made some progress on my previous "systemfit" question but still not quite there
Surprisingly, I played around with some test code and below actually
creates equations that look correct.

nlm, hessian, and derivatives in obj function?
I've been working on a new package and I have a few questions regarding the
behaviour of the nlm function. I've been (for better or worse) using the nlm
function to fit a linear model without suppling the hessian or gradient
attributes in the objective function. I'm curious as to why the nlm requires
31 iterations (for the linear model), and then it doesn't work when I try to

Rd problems --- followup
I should'nt have sent the last mail so fast.
Same problem with
\eqn{u_j = a_j + b x + c x^2, \quad j=1, \ldots, r-1}
{u[j] = a[j] + b*x + c*x^2 j = 1,\dots,r-1}
I thought the problem in the first case could have to do with
the use use of \mbox{} (with the braces) within the arguments
of \eqn, but here there are none braces in the arguments of \eqn{}{}.

Solving A System of Equations
I'm trying to solve a system of 3 equations as part of a sub-routine in R, ie first eqn a/x-b*sqrtx+c=log(1/dx+1/e(sqrtx); snd eqn (f*y)/z-g/y-h=-log(2/x+(z/y)/(i*x) and third eqn is of the form zz=x/(j-k(z/y)
where a..k inclusive are constants, x,y,z and zz are inputs.
How can this be done in R?

Build rpm package for R-MKL
I want to create a clean .rpm package for R built with MKL and ICC. I
follow Fedora instrcutions[0] to create the package. As a base, I use
the R-3.2.2.src.rpm.
I am left with this error:

Error: unknown identifier {|} in tabular format {|l|c|c|c|}
I've got a package I would like to send out for testing and have noticed a
"problem" with the \tabular portion of the help "compiler"
the code for inserting vertical lines, in the tabular environment, causes
the build to choke, but not the check command.

Passing equations as arguments
Friends,
I'm trying to pass an equation as an argument to a function. The idea is as follows. Let us say i write an independent function

tools::parseLatex() crashes on "\\verb{}"
Do I understand correctly that we don't want Rd files to be valid latex ?
This seems odd to me.
I see that `tools::parse_Rd()` doesn't like `\verb!foo!` so maybe roxygen2
is actually doing the right thing (as opposed to just trying to) ?
`parse_Rd() ` is probably what I need indeed, for some reason I hadn't
found it, so that should fix my own issue here thanks a lot.

Rd problems
Hola!
I have the following in a .Rd file:

However, both arguments come out in the latex file!

Using optim function for logistic model simulation
